The former Doctor Tilar is in her office, settled in the seat behind the desk. The chair has been pushed back slightly, and the Trill woman is rotating slowly left and right as she skims through the contents of a PADD in one hand. A cup of something steaming is in her other hand, occasionally brought to her lips to sip the contents.
 
Sawyer comes in, scowling. "What in the hail do ya thank you're doing," he starts off, his accent thicker than neutronium hull plating. Though while he does appear pissed off, the discerning eye might lead someone to suspect worry more than anything else.
 
There's no chime at the door, just a sudden appearance of a scowling Doc Sawyer. Her eyes snap up to fixate on Sawyer, alarm and fear instantly appearing on her face. Linx inhales sharply, the drink and PADD both carefully and purposely set down before her hands return to clasp tightly together in her lap. "Please don't... just... calm, please?" It still looks and sounds like Vi, though she hasn't really appeared afraid around him before.
 
Sawyer's gaze misses nothing. He looks you over, and his gaze lands back on your face. "I read your report," he says in a quieter tone. "I know what happened, Vi. But I'm short on details. Who exactly installed the Trill symbiont. Where was it done. Who told ya you were fit for duty?"
 
"I didn't think you actually read any of my reports," Linx tells him with a small smile. The fear fades, a breath slowly exhaled through her lips as she calms the panic from the sudden appearance of an angry face. "Doctor Conad Paux. He's a specialist from Trill that I had requested to help Jetrel. The Joining was performed on the vessel that we were taken to; Linx was unstable and unable to be transported, if we could even get it working. Which we couldn't in the end, by the way."
 
"Get what workin', the, symbiant?"
 
"No, the transporter," she clarifies with a shake of her head.
 
Sawyer nods. "Uh huh. Vi, I can't let you continue on duty right now, Ok?" Sawyer says, not unkindly. "You've undergone a traumatic set of events, isn't this the fifth time you've been kidnapped, and now you're carrying a symbiont you weren't prepared for, and the symbaiant may not be in good health." he shakes his head.
 
"Second." She lifts one hand, holding up two fingers. She frowns at Sawyer and crosses her arms over her chest, leaning back in her seat. "Hatter knows and agrees with Doctor Paux regarding my fitness for duty. The opinion, right now, is that not letting me go about my regular day will result in simply hiding and avoiding everyone. Which, honestly, is a very safe assumption. What do you want to know, Doc? Do you want to do an exam? I've got some fancy tools out there you can use. Doctor Paux is from the Symbiosis Commission, and is following me as well."
 
"I want you examined and cleared by a Starfleet medical officer, not a civilian specialist alone because you're not just a newly-joined Trill, you're also a Starfleet medical officer and I'm not satisfied with someone else's word for it, even if they are a specialist."
 
"I asked for Nolan when the Coleman came by, but he wasn't available," Linx tells him, pushing herself up onto her feet and tucking her hands into her pockets. THAT is a much more familiar movement. "For whatever it's worth, I don't plan on doing anything other than desk duty and teaching for the time being. I'm not irresponsible." One hand rises, gesturing towards the door. "Do you want to look?"
 
"I do. But we'll go to the Hope," Sawyer says. "And I know you're a responsible person, Vi. But we'll do this right if you don't mind."

:''The exam room isn't much more than a small alcove off to the side of the general medical wing. It is used for general examinations, and for treating less serious, and certainly non-life threatening injuries. Medical professionals have a variety of tools and equipment and their disposal here for diagnosing patients. The decor is simple and pleasing to the eye. Lighting panels skirt the ceiling and provide slightly muted illumination, which bathes the pewter coloured duranium bulkheads in a modest glow. This effect is complemented by the silver-grey carpeting with soft blue trimming, and the tan handrailing set into the bulkheads waist high. Black, glossy panelling runs uninterrupted along the bulkheads at shoulder height, allowing access to the LCARS interface, and tracers set into the bulkheads close to the ceiling indicate the current alert status.
 
"You know I have perfectly functional medical facilities on DS3, right?" Linx points out as Sawyer leads the way into his own medical area, looking around. She does move to the biobed, though. Her outermost coat is removed and laid over the foot of the bed before she hops up and
 
The medical facilities of the Hope are 1st-class in the Federation, and Sawyer seems relaxed when he gets you to his own top-notch sickbay. "Yeah they're ok," he allows. He takes a long moment to study, to really study, the bioindicators, specially regarding neural activity, symbiont health, and symbiont-host interaction indicators.
 
Both Symbiont and Host appear to be in good health, though there are stress markers on the readings. Linx simply lays on the biobed, turning her head to give him a dry look. "Well if you want me to have fancier facilities, you CAN enable that," she notes with a smirk.
 
Sawyer smiles. "You have a logistics admiral abord station at the moment. Ask her for the newest biobeds. Now VI, do ya know what happened to the Linx symbiont before?"
 
"That Admiral terrifies me," Linx tells him, snorting softly. "And she's mad that other equipment went missing, so I'm not going to ask her for ANYTHING." Her hands lift, tucking behind her head as she looks over at him. "Not really, no. I'm getting more feelings and impressions than actual memories so far. As far as I know, the previous Host had some knowledge that this ship wanted. When he didn't talk, they forcefully removed it and failed to Join with everyone else."
 
Sawyer nods. "Vi, I'm an old country doctor. I'm not a Trill, joined or otherwise. But here's what I've picked up over the years. Your joining candidates get years and years of special training, briefing, psych prep, and even then, after the joinin's always some kinda adjustment. Now, you didn't get that. The fleet records do have a few stories in them of Trill needin' to emergency join up like you had to. And there are some themes. You don't know Linx yet. You might find that you like to stand on your head now because one of Linx's former hosts liked to do that. Or maybe you liked coffee before and now ya wanna drink Terolian tea. That's fine. But it takes time to integrate and get used to that and figure on where Viari ands and Linx begins, if that makes any sense."
 
She frowns at him and pushes herself up into a sitting position, pulling her legs up to cross them beneath her. Linx isn't trying to leave, but she's certainly trying to put her eye level much closer to his own. "Do you think I don't know that?" she asks, shaking her head at him. "That came up while we were on that ship. I had already had conversations with Doctor Paux about all of that, before he even met Jetrel; I wasn't going to let him loose with her until I knew he'd actually be useful. No, I don't know Linx yet. But I know it's afraid and needs time to heal from what it's endured. I know that I'm uniquely equipped to help do that, between my personality and my profession." Her arms cross in front of her as she looks at him. "Doctor Paux was sent by Starfleet Medical, so they must have some value in his opinion. If you plan to have me removed from duty, what is YOUR suggestion for recovery and integration?"
 
"Now that's another question," Sawyer says. "Tell me more about your conversations with Doctor Poe. What, when, before joining, after joining. Fill me in on that." He leans against the wall, apparently ready to listen.
 
Linx sighs, looking up towards the ceiling as she thinks. "I submitted a request to Starfleet Medical for assistance with Jetrel's trauma, as I'm not exactly equipped to handle it properly. They sent Doctor Conad Paux, who is a specialist from the Symbiosis Commission on Trill that has written many papers on Host and Symbiont co-dependence and existence. Given that he came from the Commission, I was immediately concerned about his personal bias, and he actually thought that I had cleared Jetrel for medical leave on Risa. I had to clarify that I absolutely did not.
 
"We spent some time discussion personal opinions on the risk-versus-benefit cost with Joined Trill leaving Trillius Prime, and I joined in some conversations later with him and Kellen Coil about that later on. While we were taken, he indicated that he trusted Coil's judgement on my suitability for being a Host due to his past history and experience assessing other potential candidates. While it wasn't something I ever sought, he had said I would have been a good candidate.
 
"After Linx was Joined, Doctor Paux indicated that he would continue to monitor me, but things appeared to be stable. I have no intention of avoiding him or refusing to let him do his job. I know that I will need help and guidance. I'm taking this opportunity to teach staff more detailed techniques instead of doing them myself."
 
Sawyer listens, frowning. "Coil's a good man and very smart. But he's not a medical doctor, even a Trill one, and I have no idea how many lives ago he worked as a docent or whatever, deciding on candidates. So I can't rank that feedback as high as Doctor Poe might have. Now this Doctor Poe, is a what, medical doctor? psychologist? I'll be needin' to meet with him and confer and consult. He did the uh, the implantation of the Linx symbiont on the ship y'all were captured on, yeah?"
 
"He's both, I believe," Linx says, squinting thoughtfully. "He also provided the medical care to Kellen when he got shot during the whole thing." Her fingers lace together, settling in her lap. "He's staying on DS3 for the time being, so I'm sure that you can consult with him and update my medical file as needed. Yes, he performed the Joining there. Kellen had to help restrain me when I woke in a panic, and I was sedated shortly after."
 
Sawyer nods, seeming to relax just a little. "Ok, I'll consult with him. He sounds like a fine fella. You see him before I do, tell him who I am and what my concerns are. Now, I see some indicators on the symbiont. Some kind of duress indicators. But Doctor Paux can explain some of that. Point is, we don't know how traumatized Linx is, yeah? But for sure, there's some symbiont-size trauma there."
 
Linx tips her head to look over at the readings and nods. "That doesn't surprise me," she says, looking back towards Sawyer. "They attempted to Join the Symbiont with at least nine other people and failed before I showed up, not to mention the forcible removal from its previous Host and that Host's experiences leading up to that... it's had an effect. Which is why I've been encouraged to just go about my normal routine and demonstrate safety."
 
"In other words, restricted light duty. I'll make that official," Sawyer says. "Pending clearance by Starfleet." he smiles. "I've decided not to relieve ya outright. you're welcome. Dammit." He adjusts the panel and continues looking over readings. "Nine failed joinings. Not with other Trill, then?"
 
"Which is what I did to myself," she points out to him with a wry look. "Really, Doc. I'm not trying to be difficult or unreasonable here. I know doctors have a terrible reputation for being patients, but I'm sort of... two patients at the same time. It's complicated." Linx lifts a hand to rub at the side of her neck, sighing and then nodding. "Yes, none of them were other Trill. That's why they took us: They realized they needed a Trill and planned to forcibly join one of us and get the info that way. It didn't work out for them."
 
He lets your comment about being a difficult patient, or not, slide. "Yeah, I didn't think ya could even do that. I mean, I reckon it's probably been tried sometime, but ya know. Not good. And uh, you say you're getting mainly sense impressions right now? From Linx. Wonder if Linx is still sizing ya up for something like that."
 
"That's Doctor Paux's impression," she tells him with a nod. "I didn't even get its name until I was debriefing with Hatter. Getting its name was a step in the right direction, though." Linx looks down at her hands thoughtfully, fingers flexing. "I'm a bit nervous about what I'll eventually learn, but I know that I'm not alone while I navigate this."
 
Sawyer nods. "That's right. You ain't," he says.
 
"You planning to storm into my office breathing fire again?" Linx asks him with a smirk.
 
"I ain't ruled it out," Sawyer says. "Alright, I'm gonna look over these readings. Now, restricted light duty means, no firefights, no getting kidnapped, no surgeries, you gettin' the picture? You rest, read a good book, update your damned paperwork, and take it easy in case you start having dreams about past lives."
 
Her legs uncross and swing over the side of the bed, sliding down onto the floor. "I was doing paperwork and reading when you came by," she notes with a grin. Linx picks up her coat, slipping it back on and straightening out the uniform. "I actually would rather have dreams about my past lives at this point. It'd help give me some insight." She reaches one hand over to rest on his arm, looking at him evenly. "I'll keep you posted, though. Really. I'm not keeping this all to myself."
 
Sawyer nods. "Better not," he grouses. "Now get outa here."

USS Phoenix A

			Following a refit on Stardate 138224.5, USS Phoenix A was modified to add two additional warp nacelles. Slung directly below and inverted from the existing pair, these additional nacelles increase the overall speed, maneuverability, and acceleration of the Yorktown-class vessel. There are currently no plans to modify any other vessels of the class in this manner.

			The placement of the two new nacelles also required a significant alteration to the corvette-docking port. Starfleet engineers are hopeful they can reconfigure the design to still house an Aquarius-class corvette.
