[Tilar's Commbadge] Incoming communication request from Lieutenant Castillo.
You tap your commbadge.
[Tilar's Commbadge] Opening communications channel from Lieutenant Castillo.
You say, "This is Doctor Tilar."

[Tilar's Commbadge] Castillo steps out of the turbolift after tapping her commbadge. Although Tilar can't see her, she's in the central park. "Hello, doctor. It's Luz." She walks towards the starboard hallway, moving at a relaxed pace. "I'm heading to the landing bay to look at moving those ships around. Commander Hauser was wanting you to handle the transfer...are you available to do that?"

"Hey Luz," Tilar greets amiably, then going quiet as the other woman continues speaking. "Oh that yes. I've just finished filing some paperwork, so your timing is great. I can head down there and meet you there?"

[Tilar's Commbadge] "That works for me." Castillo says as she continues to move to the starboard hallway. "I'll be in the landing bay near the shuttle...the only one." She specifies, smirking in the process. "Castillo, out."
[Tilar's Commbadge] Lieutenant Castillo double taps her commbadge.
[Tilar's Commbadge] Connection from Lieutenant Castillo terminated.

The door leading to Starboard Landing Bay swooshes open.
:''Starboard Landing Bay <Deep Space 3>
:''This cavernous space is capable of supporting a couple dozen support or visiting craft. The ceiling is three decks high, with ample space along the outer bulkheads and the ceiling to store shuttles and runabouts until needed.
:''Heavy large blast doors provide egress to starboard.
:''Bay doors are open.
:''Out the landing bay doors: A sky filled with countless stars.
Castillo is standing near Shuttle Turing with her remote uplink in hand. She is carefully looking over the craft, punching information into her little computer as she does so. Her eyes flick across the frame, inspecting it for anything that might kill the two during the brief transfer from one side of the station to the other.

Tilar steps into the landing bay and makes her way over to Castillo, giving the other woman a smile and a wave. "Hey. Thanks for doing this with me," she says, nodding. "Commander Hauser is orienting me to all sorts of things. It's... a lot. Necessary, but a lot."

Castillo breaks eye contact with the shuttle once Tilar shows up. She smiles back with a nod, tilting her attention back at the shuttle after doing so. "I think the line officer training material can be overly technical." Her criticism of the model is given with an unoffended voice. "There are some career officers that put too much weight on it and the certification...but, I don't have an alternative suggestion, so...I guess it's best to stick with what we have."

"Have you flown any of the shuttles since leaving the academy?" She asks with another look at Tilar. "I don't think I've seen you pilot any of them before, but, I don't think you'd like have much opportunity either."

"For whatever it's worth, I've also been quizzed on things like the Prime Directive," Tilar tells Castillo with a grin. "But I have absolutely no problem letting people do what they're trained for." She looks back over towards the shuttle at the question and thinks for a moment before shaking her head. "No, I haven't. I did a little bit of orientation on the jorwI', but that's about it."

Castillo nods as if expecting the response. "That's not surprising." She says with her attention returning to the checklist. "A brief overview, although you don't always see it, the operations department handles everything that the other divisions don't cover, don't want to cover, or need help with." Her hands motion at the ship, then the rest of the landing bay. "The only thing we have exclusive influence over is logistics. Getting things from one place to the other."

"Shuttles are cargo too...at least in this case." She frowns. "Normally, we try to schedule a pilot from the helm division to reposition things, but, when one isn't available or it's needing done immediately, we have to move shuttles."

"We talked about that too," Tilar says with a slightly brighter smile. "What positions cover which duties. Operations covers a bit of everything." She looks back to the shuttle and gives a slight shake of her head. "Can't imagine we have a lot of spare pilots around. Between this being a station and the fact that our personnel levels are laughable, I'm not surprised that's fallen into your docket."

"Well, I've done some piloting even when we weren't short handed...it just depends on the circumstances." Castillo gestures at herself. "I'm not a good pilot, but, I won't accidentally kill us either." She says with an assured (mostly) smile. "Most of the people in operations were professionals in other fields that decided leaving the lab a few days a week was a good thing for their mental health."

She points to her uplink. "Most of what we do is very simple. You just need to follow the procedure as it's written and not skip steps." Her eyes flick to the door. "The first thing we need to do is unclamp the shuttle and open the door." She presses a button on the small computer. "I like to talk to myself in my head as I do it...I'll unclamp the ship...you should open the door."

Shuttle Turing is released as the restriction clamps disengage.

Lieutenant (jg) Tilar presses a button on Shuttle Turing.
There is a click as the hatch locks on Shuttle Turing disengage, then the hatch opens.

"I don't think I'd accidentally kill us, but I don't think I'd get us anywhere very quickly," Tilar tells her with a laugh before walking over to the shuttle and pressing a few buttons to open the hatch.

Castillo nods along while watching the hatch open up. "Typically, a flight operations officer will check the ship's exterior before you go on a mission. But, I lean a little paranoid and walks do a quick look at the outside of the ship before stepping in." She gives another glance to the exterior, seeming satisfied with her earlier inspection. "Once we board, you'll want to close the hatch behind us. I do this immediately unless someone else is running behind."

Tilar steps in to the shuttle behind her and turns to close the hatch, nodding her agreement. "Good practice. You don't want to leave that open by mistake."

"The ship's safety should prevent it." Castillo says, her tone somewhat grave. "But, no, I wouldn't want to forget it." She steps through the entryway and moves towards the front of the ship. "Let's get it going."

Lieutenant Castillo goes In.

Tilar follows her on to the bridge and makes her way to the pilot's seat, taking a deep breath as she settles down at the console and taps a few buttons to log herself in. "Okay, it's been a while..."

Castillo seats herself at Tilar's left and logs herself into the shuttle. "Unless there is a rush, you should always file a flight plan with the traffic controller. It can be done by directly contacting operations, sending a mail to the flight controller, or requesting it over the frequency." She pulls up the communications panel on her console. "In this case, it's going to be strange, because you'll state we're going to be departing the station, flying around it, and landing at the other side. A little abnormal, because we generally try to direct ships into their correct bay to prevent maneuvering flights."

"You can contact the traffic controller on the auxiliary channel after powering up the ship with the engineering profiles." She points to the console. "I wouldn't use anything other than the standard profiles, not without a reason to make manual adjustments."

"Aren't YOU the flight controller?" Tilar asks with a grin, looking over at Castillo as she takes a moment to examine the current powered-off state. She moves her fingers over the display, offering an explanation as she does so. "Loading the cruise power profile." Her eyes lift to look around before she glances sideways over to Castillo. "Just go through the motions and say I'm leaving and going to the other side?"

Castillo nods at Tilar's question, believing it to be rhetorical. "Considering we haven't contacted operations yet, we'll want to explain the mission before requesting clearance to depart. When I tested the shuttle's system, I announced that I would like to create a flight plan from the station to Antos IV, explicitly stating the mission was for systems testing."

"In this case, you should ask to create a flight plan for a repositioning flight to the other landing bay. They'll enter in the information for the station log."

[Pilot's Console: Shuttle Turing (DS3Aux): Requesting a flight plan for a repositioning flight. Shuttle Turing is being relocated to portside from the starboard landing bay as per operational requirements.]

Tilar nods at the explanation. "That makes sense." She reaches over, tapping a few buttons to open the channel to send the request to the station systems.

[Pilot's Console: Deep Space 3 (DS3Aux): Clearance granted, Turing.]

Castillo watches as the transmission is sent. "Traffic control is occasionally handled by a communications officer instead of an operations officer, but the flight plans are always handled by operations. They're just records to show where things are going." She points to the engineering readout. "A quick tip, you can power down the communications antennae before sending a transmission. For something like this, I might bring the power down to one percent. It stops the transmission from going as far, limiting communications to your local area."

"When communicating with other ships or stations, it's generally best to try and say who's calling and who the transmission is for." She reaches over to plug in the command to accept the flight plan as operations sends it over. "Now, you can ask for clearance to depart."

Tilar reaches over, adjusting the communications power setting with a nod. "I just left it at default, but that makes sense. No need to broadcast it that far." She grins over at Castillo and then 'oops' softly at the reminder to identify herself. "That makes sense too. Sorry." Then she's leaning over to open the channel again.

[Pilot's Console: Shuttle Turing (DS3Aux): This is Lieutenant Tilar on Shuttle Turing. Requesting permission to depart starboard landing bay.]

Castillo watches as Tilar requests clearance to depart the landing bay. "Sometimes it can take them a bit to open up the landing bay and get everything ready for us to depart. They don't want to clear us into another ship either." She says, leaning back into her seat. "Once we have launched from the shuttlebay, you'll want to contact them and state that you've begun to maneuver towards the other landing bay, then fly us lazily around the station."

[Pilot's Console: Deep Space 3 (DS3Aux): Shuttle Turing, Deep Space 3, you're cleared to depart.]
[Pilot's Console: Beginning takeoff routine]
A computer generated voice says, "Alert status has been cancelled. All personnel, all sections, stand down from alert status."
The deck plating rumbles as the ship takes off.

Tilar waits patiently for clearance, and then presses the buttons to launch from the shuttlebay when permission is granted. "Lazily sounds good. I don't want to crash..."

[Pilot's Console: Shuttle Turing (DS3Aux): Deep Space 3, Shuttle Turing, beginning maneuvers around the station to portside.]

"There's plenty of space to avoid that." Castillo says with a smirk, watching the progress of the ship. "Once this is done, both of us can head to operations and close the doors and clamp the ship down."

[Pilot's Console: Shuttle Turing remains stationary for a few moments before the thrusters flare to life and the shuttle begins to turn slowly, maneuvering carefully around the station towards the port landing bay.]

Tilar's hands move carefully as she falls quiet, focused on the moderately unfamiliar task. Her movements are purposeful and trained, but not often utilized. The shuttle does move carefully, lazily even. She'll get there eventually.

Castillo watches as the ship draws closer to the port landing bay. "Once you're on approach with the landing bay, you'll signal for permission to land there." She looks over at Tilar. "There will be a couple of ships already parked there, but with the repairs complete, you'll have plenty of spots to pick from."

[Pilot's Console: Beginning landing cycle]
There is a slight bump as the vessel lands.

Tilar brings the ship around to the other side of the station, nodding slowly. But apparently she is very focused on the task, as she navigates through to find a safe landing spot. Requesting permission to land? Well the doors are already open, so she just lands and then leans back, exhaling heavily.

Castillo watches as the ship is set down in place. No explosions. That's half the battle. "You're going to ruffle some feathers with traffic control if you don't check in with them before landing." She says with a nod. "They like to have notice of something ten times over, even if they know it's happening." Her hand reaches out to key up the communications channel.

Tilar looks over at Castillo a little bit blankly for a moment before she realizes the step she forgot, and her eyes widen a bit. "Oh shoot," she says quickly, looking back at the console with a somewhat embarassed expression. "I was so focused on getting here that I forgot."

[Pilot's Console: Shuttle Turing (DS3Aux): Deep Space 3, Shuttle Turing, our pilot is brushing up on procedure and forgot to call ahead before landing. We apologize for the inconvenience. We've touched down safely.]

Castillo isn't phased by the mistake. "It happens from time to time. It's hard to be perfect." She pushes a few buttons on her console. "Go ahead and connect us to external support power...then bring us back to idle on our internal engines."

Tilar gives Castillo a small smile, her own metaphorical feathers settling somewhat at the reassurance. "It is. Still, I try." She reaches over and presses a few buttons, shutting down the power systems and engaging external support. "I think that's right..."

Castillo rises from the co-pilot's console after closing out the system. "I'll come back to review our flight status and do a post-flight inspection. If you want to join me for that, you can." She moves towards the rear of the ship. "For now, I think I have a bunch of other work I need to get done." Her hand motions towards the exit.
