The USS Phoenix NX-170100-A is one of a new design of long range heavy cruisers, a sister ship to the Lexington-class. Visually the two ship classes looked very similar from an external point of view, with the exception of a few additional armaments on the Lexington-class vessel. Like some of its predecessors before it, the Phoenix had a specialized docking port on the underside of the stardrive section, specifically for the USS Hadfield NCC-98006, a newly developed Aquarius-class corvette.
History
Following a refit on Stardate 138224.5, USS Phoenix A was modified to add two additional warp nacelles. Slung directly below and inverted from the existing pair, these additional nacelles increase the overall speed, maneuverability, and acceleration of the Yorktown-class vessel. There are currently no plans to modify any other vessels of the class in this manner.
The placement of the two new nacelles also required a significant alteration to the corvette-docking port. Starfleet engineers are hopeful they can reconfigure the design to still house an Aquarius-class corvette.
