A refit of an old Nova-class scout, USS Antietam was the first deep-space science exploration vessel since the turn of the century. However, not long after it was launched, contact was lost with the vessel. It took a year and a half before a rescue mission was approved, and longer still to prepare a ship and crew to do it. That ship, USS Phoenix, had two missions. Find USS Antietam, and continue its scientific exploration.
