Diplomatic Officer's Bedroom <USS Phoenix NCC-170100-A>

Anewan yawns and rolls out of bed.

>Intercom< Lieutenant Stone says, "Captain Anewan, we're getting a message from the planet."

>Intercom< Lieutenant Stone says, "Shall I patch it through to you office?"

>Intercom< Captain Anewan says, "Yes. Please do. I'll be there in a moment."

Diplomatic Officer's Office <USS Phoenix NCC-170100-A>

Captain Anewan sits at his desk and sighs slightly.

Captain Anewan taps a control on Desktop Terminal. The desktop activates.

>Intercom< Captain Anewan says, "I'm ready now."

The viewscreen pops on, on the other side are Horiz and Eayi.

Anewan looks at the screen and smiles, "Hello you two. How are things one the surface? I have good news and bad news.

[Viewscreen (26112)] Horiz stands a pace back from Eayi respectfully. Eayi says, "We are well, thank you for asking Commander." She has no information on your recent promotion. "We are ready." She adds.

Anewan doesn't point out that he is a Captain, "We have found your home planet. The mural showed us almost exactly where it was. We have had some contact with the people on the planet. The bad news is that it seems as if your people are under some sort of occupation or intense surveillance. We do not think it is safe to go there just yet."

[Viewscreen (26112)] Horiz says something in Kuvassian to Eayi, not loud enough for the translator to pick it up. Eayi gives him a glance, "Occupation, from whom? Is there a way we can help? You must understand the desire to go to our ancestral home is very strong in my people. They will not easily take no for an answer." She glances again at Horiz and sighs, "It may negate any trust you have developed with them."

Anewan purses his lips and says, "Well, occupation isn't exactly the correct word," he looks at Horiz then finishes, "The ones on the planet who have contacted us were very worried about being caught. We don't know yet by whom," he pauses to consider his next sentence. "Your home planet was attacked and there was a lot of destruction. As for what you can do to help, I will let you know. But the good news is, we have found it. It is just going to take a moment to make sure it is safe to take you there."

[Viewscreen (26112)] "Commander", Eayi says, "While I understand your desire to keep my people safe is genuine, you must understand we have been under constant persecution and oppression for generations. I must insist that we be allowed to communicate with our ancestral home world ourselves to determine the risks." she glances again at Horiz, "We will not simply take your word for it as a safe place to go."

Anewan nods slowly and says, "We have a satellite on board and have been contacted. I can offer this," he pauses. "We can take you there, put you on the planet and you can tell us the situation or you can come see the satellite and see if we can contact the ones that contacted us. I can attempt to make a secure line, again, which seemed to be what spooked them in the first place."

[Viewscreen (26112)] Eayi says, "I understand the need for keeping quiet. "Mayhap it is a quality we share with our fellow Kuvassians." She considers, "If what you say is true, about their persecution, we may be able to assist in ways they have not thought of as well." She nods, "If communicating from afar is not successful, then agreed, we will need to go to the planet itself." She asks, "How far is it?"

Anewan shrugs, "Not far. We can comfortably get there in a day or so," he pauses. "I guess this is no longer up to me. I am now leaving those decisions up to you. What would you like to do?"

[Viewscreen (26112)] Eayi smiles, "Do not sell yourself short Commander. There is much we do not know. We also cannot get there without your assistance." She considers something for a moment, "There are also some of my people who still with to see your Federation. If there are others on our ancestral home world who wish further dialog with the Federation, your presence will be certainly needed then as well." She asks, "My people are ready to depart this world, there is little here for us, and without your assistance with food and water, we will find ourselves running low again. If you are agreeable, and have the room for us. I think we would all like to leave here in the hopes of returning home. I for one would not feel comfortable leaving any of my people behind, for fear of attacks from the humans on this world."

Anewan smiles, "I would not leave anyone behind. I think everyone of you can get off of this planet. Where you go is up to you," he looks at the screen and considers something, "I understand that you are in a hurry, it has been a very long time. However, it would be irresponsible of me to take you to a place where the population is even in a worse position. We will send more food and water. Then we will find out more about your planet. "When we know the full situation we will leave the decision in your hands."

[Viewscreen (26112)] Eayi nods, "I will inform my people of this new update, and Horiz and I will make preparations to come with you for the initial contact. If that is agreeable with you, Commander."

Anewan nods, "That works for me. Thank You," he repeats, "We found your planet. It is only a matter of time."

[Viewscreen (26112)] "Thank you, we will speak soon." Eayi says.

You say, "Anewan out. Or, that's what we say"

Anewan rubs his temples the heads out of the office.

Shuttlebay - Saucer <USS Phoenix NCC-170100-A>

Anewan scans the satellite with his tricorder hoping for something to come back.

Your tricorder indicates the channel is open, but there is no signal emanating from the other side. They continue to be silent, but could be listening.

Anewan tests the waters and says, "It looks to me on my end that there is an open channel. Are you there? We are attempting to find out what is going on over there."

Satellite SR47: "Dangerous, listening"

The satellite goes quiet, an audible pop suggests the channel has closed.

Anewan sighs, "Great, if you are still listening, we are working on providing a secure channel."

The doors open and Hawthorn arrives, her ever present scowl in place. "What is this?" she asks, not bothering to employ niceties.

Anewan blinks, "What is ....what?"

Hawthorn looks at the satellite, then back at Anewan, her scowl deepening. She doesn't say anything, just glares at the man with a, 'can you really be that dense', look in her eyes.

Anewan blinks again, "It's a satellite," he pauses. "Why do you care?"

The scowl disappears and the tiny woman's brows go up. She smiles triumphantly. "You're right," she says with apparent satisfaction. "I don't care." She turns on one tiny heel and stalks away. As the doors open she calls back without turning around, "Tell your Science Director Coil that I tried, but you weren't interested in my help. Typical stupid ass Starfleet."

Satellite SR47: "She was funny, reminds me of my mom."

The satellite goes silent again.

Anewan perks, "She is not a member of the crew. A scientist assigned to this vessel. I can't tell her what to do. I'm glad you are listening. There is no need to respond, just listen to us while we try to figure out what to do. As far as we can tell there are only Kuvassians on that planet. We are trying to find out what else is around there. We will have our planning conversations here., so that you can hear."

>Intercom< Lieutenant Stone says, "Captain Anewan, we're getting a request for transport of a couple of Kuvassians from the planet surface."

>Intercom< Captain Anewan says, "Transporter Room One. I'll meet them there. The Captain wants to make sure the shields are raised so make it quick and get the shields back up."

Transporter Room One <USS Phoenix NCC-170100-A>

Anewan arrives in transporter room one. The transporter chief is waiting for the bridge to lower the shields.

Horiz and Eayi are beamed up during the transport cycle. The transporter chief reports, "Shields re-established sir."

Anewan nods to the chief, "Thank You," he turns to the visitors. "Welcome aboard. I thought you were going to be coordinating things on the surface?"

Horiz defers to Eayi to answer the question, "The information you told us has been relayed to the council. It was decided that we", she motions to Horiz and herself, "will liaise with our ancestral home." She adds, "You mentioned a way to communicate with them?"

Anewan nods, "Yes. We have a satellite from the orbit of the planet. It seems as if they are listening but not transmitting for safety reasons. They can hear us but may or may not respond."

Eayi asks, "But you do not know who they are hiding from?"

Anewan shakes his head, "No. We do not," he pauses. "About a hundred years ago the planet was attacked. The attackers are the only ones I think could still be around but we haven't found any evidence of anyone else being around."

Eayi nods, "How do you suggest we proceed?"

Anewan considers, "We go to the shuttlebay and stand next to the satellite. You talk to it. In your native language. Let's see if they can trust you more than me."

Eayi nods, "Very well. Where is this shuttlebay?"

Anewan says, "Follow Me."

Shuttlebay - Saucer <USS Phoenix NCC-170100-A>

Anewan points to the satellite, "This. They are listening. I'm sure but they have to be careful. Like I said, we don't know why."

Horiz and Eayi follow you into the bay. Horiz asks, "This, us, we are still inside your ship?" Eayi is also surprised at how vast this location is. It takes them a moment to realize where you are pointing.

Horiz and Eayi approach the satellite. They ask, "Do we just speak to it?"

Anewan nods, "Yes. Speak, tell your story. Talk about the mural. Anything to get them to talk back and get an idea of what is going on over there. They are listening."

Lieutenant Commander Worthington arrives from Deck 11 - Saucer Aft Corridor.

Horiz, Eayi, and Anewan are next to the satellite. Eayi has been speaking to it in Kuvassian. She is not getting a response. She asks, "You indicated they were being quiet, for fear of reprisal?"

Anewan nods, "Yes. They are afraid of something or someone listening to them and being punished."

Worthington walks in and spots the pair. He walks over. "Evening captain," he says. Then he turns to the kuvassians. "Welcome aboard the Phoenix."

"Then why would we expect them to talk?" Eayi says, "We learned long ago to avoid disturbing humans, they took any opportunity they had to mistreat us. Always better to not be put into that situation at all." Horiz asks, "Why won't they talk to us?"

Anewan responds, "I want them to hear us. You. I want them to know that we are trying to help. I don't -really- expect them to respond but I do want them to know what we are planning. That relief for them is in sight if we can figure out the problem."

Worthington nods and considers. "If I was ever driven underground or forced to hide, and I had a network of satellites where I attempted to communicate, possibly with trusted people outside of my present location, and I observed one of those satellites being removed by an as of yet unknown group, compounding that with fear of reprisal from whoever attacked my world, I would likely be extremely cautious too. If we could establish a secure channel, perhaps they may communicate. We endeavor to monitor for any such eventuality. There's still a lot we don't know, like who precisely attacked them, what led up to this event, and what happened since. This entire region of space is actually unexplored by us. That's why this colony wasn't found in nearly 3 centuries of interstellar exploration by our people."

"So they are hiding, and speaking may give away their position?" Horiz asks.

Eayi nods her head once to Worthington, "You did not find the human colony here as well, until now."

Anewan nods to Horiz, "Yes. Speaking may give away their position. They may or may not be allowed to speak to anyone off of the planet. These are the things we need to learn. We could simply go back but now I believe that whomever is watching them would almost certainly be watching us if we return."

Worthington nods to Anewan. "Knowing just who these people are could prove beneficial," he says.

"We do have one way in and out theoretically without being watched, though that'd depend on how advanced the watchers are. Certainly, any communications that are not tight beam and limited in scope run the risk of observation. If any specific sites are monitored, transports to and from the surface would likely give away our position as well as the sites to which we transport. Knowing about the capabilities of the people involved and how to circumvent any monitoring would prove beneficial in my opinion captain."

That last bit went over Horiz' head, his ancestors may be technologically advanced, but those of Carorkon are not.

Eayi asks Anewan, "Commander, or is it Captain now? Your name has changed?" She continues her initial thought, "You said we would be going to our ancestral home, you no longer want this?"'

Anewan smiles, "My rank has changed to Captain, yes. It wasn't something that you needed to be aware of," he pauses. "I don't want to drop you and you people into a situation that may potentially be worse than the one you are in now. From what I can tell, it is not a nice place there are the moment."

Worthington nods. "Our system of authority inside Starfleet is one of rank, and rank advances through a combination of experience, leadership, and meritorious service," he says. "I myself am named James Worthington, and that will not change. My rank is lieutenant commander. I am a leader of a department on this ship, but I am subordinate to those officers of higher rank, including the captain and first officer. That is why you hear me calling Captain Anewan captain. It is protocol." He nods to the kuvassians again. "Until we know more about what is going on there, it would be dangerous to take all of you and drop you off. We could be putting all of your lives in danger, plus the lives of everyone on the planet, and such a thing goes against our code of ethics. If we took you all home, and an alien aggressor showed up and attacked your world because they observed us transporting your people there, we would be responsible for that. This is why we seek out information before making decisions like that. It is important to know as much as we can about the consequences of our actions before we act."

"Regardless", Eayi says, "We must make some effort to make contact with those on the Kuvassian home world. If they will not communicate to here, then we must go there. Is that not logical?"

Horiz nods about being cautious.

Anewan agrees, "It is logical. But we try this first. We try to get a secured line up and running. We are making that effort right now, as we speak. I am certain that they are listening. I imagine there must be some sort of resistance on the planet. Maybe we can help them in some way. Getting the two of you on and off the planet may be worth the risk."

Eayi asks, "Didn't you mention earlier there were only Kuvassians on the planet?"

Horiz starts looking around a little, not physically, but with his eyes. Some cool stuff here.

Anewan nods, "Yes. We were only able to detect Kuvas llifesigns," and to answer a previous question. "Yes, you are still on the ship. It is big."

Horiz asks, "How big is it? Based on the debris from the crashed ship on our world, it was estimated to be 150-200 meters long. But, that never seemed right to me, if thousands were aboard."

Satellite SR47 makes a *pop* sound.

Eayi asks, "What was that?"

Anewan turns towards the satellite and says to Eayi, "That was the communication line either turning off or turning on," he answers Horiz, "I think the ship is about 1/2 a mile? You'd have to ask James here of Commander Coil. They know much about that stuff than me," he pauses. "I should know the answer to that question though."

Eayi begins speaking to the satellite again in Kuvassian.

Horiz still seems more intrigued by the Phoenix than a hunk of satellite that so far has done little more than make a peep.

Worthington responds. "Our ship," he says. "Not sure on the size of yours. So little of it was found." He ponders. "It's over one of our kilometers long, and almost half that wide. It has 35 decks and holds a few thousand people. This room, it's one of if not the biggest on the ship." He gestures expansively. "It has to be, as its job is to launch and receive auxiliary spacecraft. That would typically include any craft visiting our own, as well as our complement of shuttles." He points each of the 4 ships out. "The logistics involved in maintaining a ship and crew of this size is an undertaking that is the responsibility of an entire command level department aboard. That's what operations does."

Anewan chuckles at Worthington, "Yes. That."

Satellite SR47: "Who are you?"

Eayi replies to the responding satellite, "My name is Eayiiseimeyajgth." Giving her full name.

Horiz nods to Worthington, "That's really big. I'd like to see it sometime, if I may?" He turns to face the satellite when it begins to speak.

Worthington nods to the male kuvassian. "Such a tour could be arranged," he says, then goes silent, turning to observe the satellite.

Anewan nods to Worthington then Horiz then turns his attention to the satellite. "I knew they were getting something from us."

The Satellite goes quiet again for a long moment, but the channel remains open.

Satellite SR47: "That's not possible."

Lieutenant Commander Coil arrives from Deck 11 - Saucer Aft Corridor.

Satellite SR47: The voice sounds a little distant, perhaps talking to someone else, "I know, keep it to a minimum, listen only, but you have to hear this." The voice is louder again, "Can you repeat your name."

Horiz gets a concerned look on his face, but says nothing.

Anewan is in the Shuttlebay with Eayi and Horiz, Worthington has joined. Anewan looks towards Eayi as she seems to have made some sort of progress.

Worthington asks the pair. "Do your names have any bearing on your lineage, relations, or personal history?" he asks. "That would explain the response we are receiving."

Coil walks into the shuttlebay and gets halfway to the satellite before he realizes that there's a crowd already present. He nods in greeting to Anewan and Worthington before turning his attention to Horiz and Eayi.

Horiz nods to Worthington, "She would never admit it, but her family is revered."

Eayi repeats the name to the Satellite with some reluctance, but also hopefulness. "We know you want to keep your secrecy and not be discovered. But it is important we speak. My", she looks at the Starfleet officers present, "friends here want to setup communications that will not reveal your location. I", she hesitates, "want to come speak to you in person."

Anewan raises an eyebrow then looks at Eayi with a bit more suspicion then adds a little reluctantly, "Yes. I have spoken to someone previously. I am Captain Anewan."

Worthington turns to coil and talks more quietly. "Were you part of the team that made the initial discovery of the home world. Do you know how it beings actively monitoring it at present would do so, and the best ways to get people on and off the planet without detection or giving away hidden locations?" he asks the scientist.

"Do we have any ships equipped as the Hegh'ta is?" Kellen asks Worth quietly in return since it's obvious that the satellite has become something of interest again.

Satellite SR47: "Spoken to someone previously?" There is muffled talking as someone on the other side is dressed down.

Eayi says, "We will come to you. There is no need for you to further broadcast your location." She looks at Anewan, "You will make this possible?"

Anewan sighs heavily, "We will need some way to find them and I have to talk to my bosses."

Worthington nods. "Getting to the planet itself isn't an issue. Finding specific people on the planet, and doing so without tipping off anyone who may be watching, that is," he says. "We also don't know if these people are on the planet or somewhere else. The planet seems to be a likely place, as our removal of the satellite for study was observed, though we'd need some way to establish precise transport coordinates without making what we are doing obvious to anyone else who might be watching." He turns to Coil. "I'm not sure of any other modifications you may be referring, but you are of course aware of Hadfield's stealth and cloaking capabilities."

Coil glances at the satellite at Worth's reply but turns his attention to Eayi at her request.

Eayi says to the satellite, "We will contact you again when we are closer. I hope this won't be an issue?"

Satellite SR47: *pop* as the channel closes

Horiz asks, "Was that a yes or a no?"

Anewan responds, "It sounded like a yes," he turns to Worthington, "The Hadfield." It has the emitters as well no?" he turns towards Kellen, "Hawthorne came down here to help, I didn't know that. She left in a huff," then finally he turns to Eayi, "You should go back to the surface while we figure this out and tell your council. If Horiz wants to see the ship maybe Commander Worthington can show him around. Not allowed to go around alone."

Coil shakes his head and says to Worth, "James, they're already paranoid. Why do you think I mentioned Hegh'ta instead of saying something directly?" He turns to Eayi and Horiz, "I'm Commander Kellen Coil, Chief Science Officer of the Phoenix." He nods in acknowledgment to Anewan, "Thank you for letting me know. The Doctor and I haven't really spoken yet."

Horiz perks up at the chance for a tour.

Eayi nods slowly to Anewan, "As you wish, Captain." She asks Coil, "You prefer which name Commander, Kellen, or Coil?" She says to Horiz, "No mention of this reaction to the others, I will relay it when the time is right. Enjoy your tour."

Worthington looks to Anewan. "The Hadfield has the holographic emitter system yes captain," he says. "Though those emitters are meant for navigating a pre-warp society and preventing our observations from being detected. They are very much detectable by sensor systems and would not guard against life sign scans or scans for transporter signatures. I'm not sure what purpose they would serve captain." He turns to Coil. "Of course. Though trying to talk around what we mean just makes that worse in my view. Talking indirectly about a thing instead of just about that thing indicates that there is something we are hiding, rather than just being honest about our capabilities nd letting them know what we have in mind. We have nothing to hide here."

Anewan nods to everyone here he summons someone from security to escort Eayi back to the transporter then says to Coil and Worthington, "I am going to need you help to get this thing planned but first I have to talk to Tink and Shulon."

Coil smiles at Eayi, "I'm afraid it could get more confusing in my case, but I'll answer to either Kellen or Coil. I'm one of what my people call Joined, where Kellen is the Host to Coil, and Coil has lived for over 600 years. Kellen is Coil's 7th Host."

Worthington mods and smiles, listening as the conversation plays out.

Eayi smiles to Coil, "That is confusing, but I understand having long names. Kellen then. 600 years is a long life. If we have time I would very much like to ask you about some of your experiences." She notes the security detail called by Anewan, "But my escort is here. Until next time." She address Anewan again, "Please do not delay."

Anewan nods, "We will be moving quickly. We do not know how much time we have and who may have been listening."

Coil chuckles, "600 years is but a short life for Coil, but the 7 lives of my Hosts are shorter in comparison as are the lives of those I've known over those years. I remember them, so they live on."

Horiz asks, "Do our people no longer have spaceships like this?"

Eayi smiles at Coil then heads off for the transporter.

Anewan answers that, "Not that we can tell. The planet has a place to land spaceships but we were unable to detect any."

Worthington considers. "Every culture makes ships somewhat differently," he says. "While all ships serve the same basic functions, their purposes and designs can vary drastically. The Klingons and Romulans for example, technologically peers or close to it of the Federation, do not have any ships like this. They have small and large ships sure, but their aesthetics, their designs, and even their purposes are different, reflecting the culture of the people that built them. I've never seen a kuvassian ship, so I have no idea how they were built or designed, or what variations of ships your people had. There did not seem to be any ships on your home world according to what we learned, but perhaps there are some in hiding. Perhaps there are some of your people off world who still travel the stars. We simply do not know."

Horiz nods, mostly understanding.

Anewan looks around the shuttlebay and says, "Well, it looks like I have a promise to keep. Would you two go with me? Unless you have an investigation still going on here James?" he pauses. "She seemed very interested in you Kellen. Tag along?"

Coil joins Anewan, "I'll walk along for a little ways, Jiemba."

Worthington nods. "Not in this compartment, but on this ship for sure," he says.

Anewan heads towards Fleet Command, "You know a little bit about resistance cells? Both of you?"

Coil gives Anewan a raised eyebrow and nothing further.

Worthington considers. "I'm no expert," he says. "Though I have studied history, and we have dealt with a few underground movements, though I'd call those more akin to attempted coups rather than resistance movements."

Anewan moves out of the shuttlebay but pauses to tell Horiz, "You can go no where without an escort," he turns towards Worthington. "Make sure we get security around him twenty four seven," he gives Coil a curious look then heads out.

Worthington nods to Anewan and sees that appropriate personnel are notified through his commbadge.
