XO's Office - Saucer <USS Sao Paulo NCC-122004>
The XO's office is a mirror of the Captain's Ready Room on this deck. It is separated into two sections by a low railing and a small step. The first tier is at the same level as the main bridge, and is for more formal meetings with the Executive Officer, and includes a wooden L-shaped desk with a single chair on the far side, beyond it is a sliding door into a private lavatory.
The lowered tier, down a single step between the low railing, has a long sofa along the outer bulkhead just below a window. A small glass oval coffee table is in front of the sofa. A food replicator is also available along the far bulkhead. A section of the sofa can pull out, revealing a single-sized bed, should the XO not be able to get below to their quarters.

Out the viewport: The interior of a dock can be seen.

Worthington is seated at his desk when the door opens. He looks up.

Chorley enters the XO's office and smiles, suggesting he's pleased to see the commander again after their trip to Trill some time ago. He stands at attention and says, "Good morning, sir."

Worthington smiles back. "At ease ensign, and have a seat," he says, jesturing to a chair in front of his desk. "I hope you are adjusting well to your first assignment? A tall order I know. This is one of the largest ships in the fleet, and will have a very important mission. I wanted to see how the auxiliaries are doing, and if you familiarized yourself with any of them yet."

Chorley eases himself over to the chair across from the XO's desk. He looks around the room quickly as he's moving, then returns his gaze to the XO as he sits down. "Certainly different from wrangling new cadets and making sure they know how to get to their next class," he jokes. "Comms in the shuttles have been synced according to your orders," he reports, adjusting to a more professional tone. "I have requested guidance from Chief LePage regarding the Workbees." He pauses, then adds, "The fighter wing and escort as next on the agenda, if you have any additional thoughts outside of those you shard with Commander Ki'Vek on the bridge." he adds, leaving the possibility of a response open-ended.

Worthington nods. "As far as the fighters, once we have a frequency for them, just leave them alone. Each pilot has a dedicated flight suit. Those are parented to the ship and sync the frequencies. The valkyrie-class fighters, to save space, do not have on-board life support or comms. The flight suit handles all that, including navigational syncing for the nav computer. I flew one of those for a time, so am quite familiar with them." he pauses. "You looked at any of the capabilities of our 3 shuttles, runabout, and corvette? I would advise you do so. Knowing what each craft is capable of will help you know what is appropriate for a given away mission."

Chorley nods. "Aye, sir." He lowers his grin slightly to admit, "My piloting skills were never top of the class," he pauses to explain, "being Angelite and all," then continues, "but I look forward to the opportunity to improve." He flashes an eager grin to add, "Finally getting out into space, and with pilots like you and the Captain, I'm sure to be an expert pilot in no time."

Worthington chuckles. "I wouldn't say an expert in no time, but you should at a minimum be checked out on the type 28 shuttle and the gryphon-class runabout, possibly the hadfield as well. We have combat simulators aboard. If you'd like to improve your piloting skills while not on duty, feel free to make use of them. They're on deck 23, aft section. I'm using them right now for tactical experimentation and battle simulation. My background is in security you see," he remarks. "I'm testing the capabilities of the type 11 vs the type 14 shuttle, to see which is more effective. The type 14's armor is quite durable, but the fore/aft torpedo configuration is rather flawed. Neither vessel should fight at impulse that's for certain. Torpedo hits will wreck them, shields or armor. Shields are usually weaker in general. Tested the type 14 against a scorpion class corvette, the most armed vessel of its size I've seen. One torpedo salvo of type 2 quantums, thinking over 6 torpedos at once, is enough to wreck the armor of any of our auxiliaries and cause massive damage. If combat happens with an auxiliary craft, avoiding impulse fights will be key." He stops rambling for a moment. "The type 28 is good as it's designed for long range missions, diplomatic ones likely. It's sensors aren't special, but it can take 12 people to explore a system out of the way from the ship's main course, or convey a diplomatic delogation. The gryphon-class is the most versitile ship we have. It can be configured for tactical, scientific, and medical missions. Please familiarize yourself with each of the modules for this runabout. We will likely be using them."

Chorley nods, "Aye, sir. I'll check out the simulators and work with the modules for the gryphon-class." The Ensign smiles warmly with genuine interest as he asks, noting the XO's enthusiasm, "How did a Security Officer become such a ship enthusiast?"

Worthington smiles. "I studied tactical maneuvering at the academy and took courses in piloting a variety of ships. I was also a history enthusiast as well. My father served in the Dominion war, so I learned quite a bit about that conflict," he replies. "I've studied Federation and some old Earth history. It's come in handy a few times, particularly that one time we got stranded back in 2019 Earth. I've always made it a point to know what ships I was working with and their capabilities, so learned quite a bit about starships. I've shaken down quite a few runabouts, so am familiar with that as well, and have worked on a few models from runabouts to fighters to a few starships. I've gained an appreciation for quite a few ships, though usually those with more of a tactical capability."

Chorley feeds of the enthusiasm when he asks, "So, what's your favorite? What's the best ship you've ever flown?"

Worthington considers. "I've had the chance to fly them all, all the ones I served on, so Phoenix, Alita, Buran, Pathfinder, several runabouts, selkie to gryphon to delta flyer class, callisto and ursa major class corvettes, valkyrie-class fighters, you name it. I do love the ships with slipstream, most of them. Of the ones that didn't have slipstream, the valkyrie was the most interesting to fly. No life support like I said, just you in a flightsuit in the cockpit, your ship. The gryphon class runabouts are always a joy to fly, and that type 28 shuttle looks like it will be too. Slipstream and some decent maneuverability is a winner for me. I do like speed, I must admit. Of the big ships, probably Phoenix, Buran, and Sao Paulo herself. I must say, flying a ship this big is new for me, and she may not turn particularly fast, but you can see the power a ship like this commands. It's something else."

Chorley listens with interest and undivided attention. He nods along with the XO's words, occasionally raising an eyebrow at this or that point of fact. As the commander finishes, the ensign puts a finger over his mouth for a moment. He slowly lowers it and breathes in deeply before asking, "Any other suggestions, sir?" He adds, "regarding the auxiliaries?"

Worthington smiles. "Get to know them. Tour each, learn the layout. For example, did you know the type 28 sleeps 12 people? Not comfortably mind you, but there are 4 quarters aboard with 3 bunks each. Learn the layouts and capabilities of each, what they have aboard. You will no doubt end up on an away mission or many aboard several of the craft."

Chorley nods enthusiastically, "I am eager to prepare. I appreciate your advice, sir. Thank you for your time."

Worthington nods and rises. "Thank you for yours ensign," he says. "Have a good night."

Chorley rises with the XO and straightens to attention, "Aye, sir." He flashes a final grin as he steps back toward the door, "You too, sir."
