- Observation Deck - Stardrive <USS Phoenix NX-170100>
- Located at the top of the stardrive section, not including the two large nacelles that can be seen out the aft window, and just aft of the saucer shuttlebay, sits the stardrive observation deck. The domed ceiling is a criss-cross of bulkheads and transparent-aluminium affording the occupants of this large space an excellent view of incoming and outgoing shuttles as they skim just above the ceiling.
- The decor is brighter than some compartments, with the majority of the walls an off-white. The furniture varies both in shape and size, but all serve the same function, a comfortable place to take a break. There are a few tables interspered around the space, some with low plushy chairs, others of a more bar variety where a person standing would be at eye level with those sitting. Along the outer walls are some curved sofas, some large enough for a group of six to eight, others for a couple or trio.
- To one side of the turbolift is a series of beverage and food replicators, while on the other is a bar complete with a number of stools. When available, the bartender can whip up something special.
- Through the domed ceiling: The interior of a dock can be seen.
Worthington is lounging in a chair in the corner reading a padd and listening to some music quietly.
Ki'Vek doesn't come to this lounge much, (alright, almost never), but maybe she's looking for a change of scenery. She slithers off of the lift and has a look around before making her way over to one of the replicators. She orders up a steaming mug of nearly boiling water and holds it in both hands against her chest as she moves over to the large windows not far from where Worthington is doing whatever humans do.
Worthington looks up from his pad a second, and spots the selay. He waves.
Ki'Vek stops at the big window and peers out, a mug of steaming liquid clasped between her hands. When she sees Worthington's wave she nods to him in greeting. "Lieutenant," she offers with respect.
Anewan enters as the doors part. He actually is doing a quick inspection and is with the quartermaster, "I haven't had a chance to look the room over yet. Did it work out as you intended?" he queries.
Worthington smiles and nodds to Ki'Vek. "Good to see you,"he says, as he taps something on his padd. A close observer would see that he's looking at security reports.
Ki'Vek isn't such an observer. At least, not in this instance. "Likewise, Sir," she replies, then goes back to gazing out of the window. She moves the mug in her hands so that the hot steam rises up the front of her neck and parts around her lowerjaw to warm both sides of her face.
Anewan continues to walk around the perimeter of the room pointing out certain things to the officer with him, "Let's make sure that the majority of the plants are not edible this time?" he titls his head, "well, I guess we can't know who will eat what when they come aboard." The other officer nods and laughs, "Yeah, that was a shock," they are making their way towards Ki'vek first as the round the perimeter.
Worthington spots anewan walking through. Not too many lieutenant commanders on the ship afterall. He waves and sees if the other officer notices him.
Ki'Vek becomes aware of Anewan and the Quartermaster drawing near. She's had her tail stepped on a few too many times by people passing by, so she draws herself up closer to the window and pulls in her tail, wrapping it up in a tight coil beneath her. She turns toward Anewan and offers a shallow bow to him and a acknowledging nod to his companion. "Commander," she greets.
Anewan offers a shallow bow out of habit which he shakes off with a silght shake, "You keep getting me to do that," he introduces the other officer, "This is the Quartermaster, him and I are just checking out the Observation deck. Do you find it relaxing? Anything you think we should add?" Anewan isn't taking notes but the Quartermaster is. He waves to James and mouths towards him quietly, 'You're next'.
Worthington smiles to anewan. "I like the lounge sir," he replies. "Though I had an idea I wanted to pick yourbrain about."
Ki'Vek would blink in surprise if she had eyelids. "You're attempting to make this space more habitable for the crew?" she asks, then shakes her leathery head without waiting for an answer. "I'm afraid, Sir, that any adjustments I might suggest they would make the vast majority of the crew less comfortable here if implemented, not more. But I do appreciate the consideration. Thank you."
Anewan looks at Ki'vek for a long while then says, "Not even -one- thing Lieutenant?" he presses just a little bit then turns back towards Worhtington, "Is the idea about the lounge?"
Worthington shakes his head. "No, but maybe something we could do in it," he replies.
Ki'Vek tips her head to one side at an odd angle. She waits for the exchange between Anewan and Worthington to end, then says to the Ops Chief, "Cold blooded beings like myself we find the standard environment on Starfleet ships to be just a touch too cool for comfort." She holds up her steaming mug and nods to it. "This it is one of the ways in which I cope with the situation. Should you visit my quarters, you would find them to be quite heavily modified from the standard configuration. Environmental controls they are set to higher than standard temperatures, and the humidity it is also set significantly higher. I know that changing the environment of this lounge to those settings it would be far too uncomfortable for far too many other members of the crew. But perhaps some focused heat lamps in one corner they might be helpful, Sir. I have such lamps installed in my quarters as well, so they should be on file with the replicator."
Anewan nods once as the Quartermaster jots it down, "Which corner would you like?" he turns back towards Worhthington as the quartermaster begins going through the replicator subroutines. "Is it private James? You can go ahead here."
Worthington smiles. "Not private sir, no," he says. "Just thinking, you know, we never did give captain Kadn and commander Svetzvani a true and proper send off. Most of the senior staff has served with them for years, and many of the junior officers too. They should have a chance to pay their respects and offer well wishes, if such can be arranged."
Ki'Vek takes a look around the lounge, then indicates a spot that might not be too invasive for other crew members, but which still has a good view out of the windows. "Perhaps there," she suggests. At Worthington's idea she nods in agreement, but allows that silent gesture to be her only input on that part of the conversation for now.
Anewan smiles at James as the Quatermaster heads to the indicated area of the observation deck. "I like it," he says standing next to Ki'Vek. "What do you have in mind?"
Worthington considers. "Well, holding a gathering here, or somewhere like this," he jestures. "On the Phoenix, either at Spacedock, or Lya Station. A true farewell party for officers moving on to new commands. Those two served with us for so long, they deserve it in my opinion sir."
"It would be fitting, Sir," Ki'Vek says. "If it could be arranged. It has been quite some time since they were reassigned."
Anewan nods, "Great. Tell me what you need when you are ready to do it. I'm onboard."
Worthington smiles. "Well, we'd need a few things. Command authorization, so speaking to commander Shulon. Need to get in touch with captain Kadn and arrange the logistics of the when and where upon receipt of command approval, and once we've got that worked out, just a space large enough to hold a respectible gathering, like this lounge," he ticks off.
Anewan nods, "I don't think inviting Captain Kadn on the ship needs," he puts up air quotes, "Command Authorization like you are using it," he pauses. "What do -you- need to make a send off happen? The actual event."
Worthington considers. "Well, he's left spacedock actually, so calling him back or us traveling to lya station is the part I was worried about getting approval for," he says. "As for a proper send off, your best bar tenders, some tables, a dance floor would be appropriate, maybe a banner depicting their years in service aboard the Phoenix, and a healthy guest list," he says.
Anewan nods, "OK. Just let me know when? I can get all of that for you. Why don't you just call him, tell hin your plans, work out a time and see if he will come back? Hopefully we won't be deployed by then."
Worthington nodds. "Sure thing. I take it I have operations permission to use the comms for that purpose?" he queries.
Anewan smiles, "It's a phone call. If you couldn't make a phone call..." he chuckles. "Just don't use the main bridge. There are a bunch of viewscreens around you can use.," he pauses then says. "Wait you mean the main comms?" he chuckles again. "The main comms are for official business but use one of the smaller viewscreens."
"I could install one in your office," Ki'Vek suggests to Worthington, then pauses. "Do you have an office?"
Worthington chuckles. "No, commander T'Shaav has one, that's not mine though," he replies.
Anewan nods, "Use the viewscreen in the conference room. The doctor just got one," he pauses. "If you use it it will be the first I've heard," he grins. Then another pauses, "Oh. By the way James congrats on Deputy. It's about time."
Worthington smiles. "Thank you sir. I feel honored with the new responsibilities," he responds.
Ki'Vek nods to Worthington. "Congratulations indeed," she agrees. "I thought that with your promotion, maybe you were using the office in Stardrive Security."
Anewan shrugs, "Maybe you could move in," he adds. "But either way, find a viewscreen, not the main bridge, and give him a call. You don't need operations permission to make a call."
Worthington nodds. "Understood sir," he replies. "I'll call him up and ask."
"And if you do get an office and want a viewscreen or other equipment installed, let me know," Ki'Vek says.
Worthington smiles. "Thank you," he replies. "Looks like I've got some phone calls to make."
Ki'Vek turns and goes back to gazing out the window.
