A shimmering swirl of colour engulfs Toran.
Swirls of energy whip around your deconstructed body. Shimmering lumination dances about your form uncontrollably, dazzling every sense.

Toran issues orders, and soon, the ship is orbiting Emissary Station once again. "Get us clearance, and dock us up, but let the crew know this will be a short stay," he says.

An echo runs through the hull as the ship settles into dock.

"Thank you for the ride, Major," Davis says, looking even more tired. She's about to head to the turbolift before she steps and turns toward Toran. "Have you ever been to Free Haven?" Her question sounds like one of curiosity, more than anything else.

Toran nods. "Yes," he says. "I go there all the time. It's on my patrol route. Why do you ask?"

"I'm just trying to consider all possibilities," Davis says. She stifles another yawn. "Do you remember what she said? 'We have unfinished business with the Cardassians.' Maybe she was telling the truth. In such a case, given Doctor Tikar's involvement, my biggest worry is that she wants to do to a Cardassian world what was done to Bajor. She wants to render it barren. If that's true, I fear she might misuse Doctor Tikar's research to do just that. It's possible to do that, and it's plausible that she might want to do that, if she truly is more of a zealot than we think. Also, why else would she take him into Cardassian space? Though I'm probably overthinking things." There's a long pause. "But part of me remembers how she relished in her own theatricality in that transmission. She almost seemed like a different person. And maybe that was intentional. Maybe all she really wants to do is protect him, and what she said was a ruse to make herself look crazy and have us chase our tails. If you travel about 2/3rds of the distance from DS9 to Arawath, then changed heading, you'd have a straight shot through the Badlands and toward Free Haven. She mentioned once that she's from there. If she's really trying to stash him somewhere safe, so he can start a new life somewhere, she might approach Doctor Vara soon too."

Toran nods. "That makes some sense," he says, considering. "Ko's been in Starfleet her whole career to my knowledge, spent a lot of time off Bajor. Not sure exactly what she's done, but to harbor that kind of hatred, well," he says. "Did I ever tell you a thought I had? You know, I thought this whole Tikar Rilan situation would make for a perfect Dominion inspired plot. Turn Bajor against the Federation in an entirely plausible way, and now, potentially threaten the peace and relationship between Bajor, Cardassia, and the Federation, if there's any merit to what you're saying. Consider that Starfleet has already worked to help bring life back to Cardassian worlds that were rendered baren so they did not have to rely on Federation food imports. This would be, well, catestrophic, for this region of space, and would not be good for Bajor."

"You're referring to the Orias III restoration?" Davis says. There's an almost wistful note in her voice. "I wonder how it's doing now." She goes on. "I hope they're not going there. Would turn the last ten years of my life into a waste. If we're waxing conspiratorial, I wonder why bad things seem to happen so often to nanotechnology experts lately. Would you believe me if I told you I was about to approach you specifically to ask you put extra security on both Tikar and Vara, specifically because I was worried about one or both of them being targeted? I was in such a rush to get the code done that I didn't have time." She shrugs. "Wild speculation aside, there is one actually concrete thing I'd like to ask of you, though. Just in case you see Tikar or Ko before I do."

Toran nods to Davis. "I was wondering a little, after hearing about that shuttle explosion," he says. "What were you wanting to ask of me?"

"It's about what the vulcans have accused him of. Intellectual property theft," Davis says. "Maybe we both should brush up on the subtleties of that. I'm not a legal expert, but based on my understanding, if he developed a clean sheet design after merely learning the first principles at the Vulcan Science Academy, he should be in the clear? Maybe that's not even true. And honestly, I haven't talked to him enough to be sure that that even is the case, though what little I've heard hints at that being what happened. We'd need to talk more to him to know. When all of this is over, however long that takes, I really would like for him to return to his usual life. It's not our job to fight his legal battle, but if he hasn't done anything wrong, and he wasn't involved in his escape, then we can hopefully make clear to him that he doesn't have to live on the run."

Toran nods. "I would like that as well. I think this whole affair has been handled rather poorly by the Vulcans, which is why I thought it would make for such a great changeling plot," he says. "I fail to see the logic in the manner they have handled this so far."

"Honestly, I could say the same." There's agreement in Davis's voice. "I mean, I don't know anything about changelings. I wouldn't go that far. But something does feel illogical about it. Either they were misinformed about the facts, or there's something more to this. We should be extra careful, if for no other reason than to avoid Tikar being railroaded by this case."

Toran nods again. "Agreed," he says. "This whole mess with the Klingons adds something extra to the situation. We have a tactical module from a vor'cha class attack cruiser docked to our station. It appears to be, in civilian hands? Or allowed to be used by one, but attached to a larger vessel. Now, it could be a coincidence, but lieutenant Ko ends up working with Klingons to beam doctor Tikar out? This was clearly coordinated in advance, though how far in advance, we don't necessarily know."

"Well, if you have the authority, maybe putting people on Doctor Vara, and discreetly taking measures to prevent her from being transported, would be a smart thing to get done quickly. She might be feeling a little insecure herself, after the news we just gave her. And if they are trying to get Doctor Tikar to cooperate in some crazy plan, and he refuses, the easiest way to leverage him would be grabbing her. Alternately, Ko might try to grab her to bring her to where Tikar is," Davis rattles off, exhaustion creeping into her voice more and more. She glances at a nearby console. "Oh, I need to report in. And handle a few different things, due to all of this." She lets out a bitter, "Hah," and then continues, a little defeated. "I honestly thought I'd be able to take a break and get some sleep after we got the code done." She nods, a small but genuine smile creeping onto her face. "Have a good evening, major." With that, she heads into the turbolift and off the ship.
