Davis enters in a bit of a hurry, but once she steps inside, she stops for a few moments, apparently struck by the sheer scale of the place. Eventually, whatever she came here for seems to win out, and she proceeds further in, taking a sweeping look at the area as she does, clearly looking for someone or something.

Ko is standing near Shuttle Cook. She is out in the open and should be easy to find. Her attention is set entirely on her PADD. She continues with an inspection of the small starship.

Davis spots Ko a few moments later. For a few moments, she looks back and forth between the officer and the PADD she's holding, seemingly checking something. She doesn't look entirely sure of herself, but she approaches Ko nonetheless a few moments later. "Excuse me. Are you Lieutenant Ko?"

Ko turns to face Davis as she is addressed. "I am." She offers out a hand. "Ko Kelra." Her eyes flick up and down Davis's body. "Who do I have the pleasure of speaking to?"

Davis accepts the hand, offering a quick, firm shake. "Oh, right." She looks a bit embarrassed when Ko asks who she is. "I really should have introduced myself. I'm Anjali Davis, the new Chief Science Officer. I've been a bit busy since I arrived stationside, so I haven't had a chance to meet many of the officers here."

Ko nods understandingly. "I'm only planning on being here for the short term." She admits. "I'm a pilot. This is a space station." Her frustration is visible. "They only want me here as a liaison because I'm a Bajoran."

Davis nods as she listens. There's a brief but empathetic frown on her face when Ko voices her frustrations, but she doesn't engage with it further than that, her demeanor all business a moment later. "I actually wanted to ask you about your work as liaison. The current issues related to Doctor Tikar's work happen to line up with my own expertise, which I imagine is why I was recalled and sent here. I've been tasked with looking into that. Now that I have my bearings, things seem to be a bit more urgent than I thought when I first read the reports. There are two things I came here to talk to you about, and I think I might need your help with one or both."

Ko drops her PADD to her waist. "What's the first one then?" She asks while looking at the shuttle. "We can talk about it while we run a few tests on this shuttle."

"Sure. I'm not sure how useful I'll be, but tell me what you need, and I'll help as best I can," Davis says, seemingly in reply to the mentioned tests. "The first issue is one where I might actually be of use to you. I spoke with Doctor Tikar myself yesterday. We talked a bit more about the 'maintenance code' mentioned in station reports 116, 117, and 119. If we don't get that work done sooner rather than later, we may be looking at irreversible damage to the soil in Rekantha. I have my own proposal for how that might be done while meeting all of Captain T'Shaav's conditions. I have Her permission to take the lead on that, so I can take that off your plate if it's useful. But I don't want to step on your toes if you've already got a plan underway, and I'd love to collaborate, if that's possible."

Ko motions towards Shuttle Cook and moves towards it. She speaks as she moves. "I already spoke with the engineers about getting him a portable computer." Her hand reaches out to open up the small starship. "The security team said they would be preparing a schedule for him to begin his work. I hadn't followed up on it yet."

Lieutenant (jg) Ko presses a button on Shuttle Cook.
There is a click as the hatch locks on Shuttle Cook disengage, then the hatch opens.

Davis follows along with Ko as they head for the shuttle, talking as she walks. "If Doctor Tikar said that the portable computer in question is good enough, then that sounds like a workable solution. We are on a bit of a timetable, though, and he's understandably quite concerned about getting it done soon. I am too."

Ko boards the shuttle. "There isn't anyone on the station that wants to see the doctor get his work done than myself." She says while stepping through the door. "If you think you have an idea to push it along, I'm all ears."

You enter Shuttle Cook.

Davis enter the shuttle right behind Ko. "I did have my own proposal, but given how far along you are, I'm not sure how useful my ideas will be now," she says. "It sounded like the captain wanted as much oversight as possible. On top of that, given the deteriorating situation, I thought it might be useful if I could assist him, if needed. I was going to suggest implementing a number of security protocols to lock down one of the science labs, so it could be used as a secured workspace, which he could be escorted to and from as needed. The work would get done under guard, and with my direct supervision. Though given the situation on Level 9 right now, that has its own complications."

Ko shakes her head at Davis. "Have you met Dr. Tikar?" She asks. "He's not going to want you to help him." Her hand points into the body of the shuttle. "I think you have a great idea though. Giving him access to a science lab would likely help how quickly he can get through the work." She continues. "Was that all of the first question? What was the second one?"

The door leading to In swooshes open.

Davis follows behind Ko. "I have talked to him, actually. I think we established a bit of a rapport? It might help that we were both familiar with each other as academics even before our meeting. I'm not sure if he'll *need* my help, but if it will be useful, I think he might accept it. What was it he said?" At this point, she does an entirely unnecessary impersonation. Voice? F- Mannerisms? D+ It's WAY off, but there's a hint of him in there. "Ah, you're /that/ Doctor Davis? I didn't realize you were one of these Starfleet minions. Still, that was excellent work you did. A credit to your intellect and training." She stops there, slipping back into her usual voice. "I left out a bit." And then she catches herself. "Oh, right! The second thing. Vara Nisah!"

Ko appears bothered by Davis's impression of Tikar. "He doesn't sound like that." She says defensively as she moves towards the front of the shuttle. Her discomfort looks like it subsides with a moment to think. "Sorry. I have a hard time with someone trying to impersonate others." She glances over her shoulder. Another moment passes. "What about her? I met her on Bajor."

The door leading to Bridge swooshes open.

Davis waxes a bit apologetic as they finally arrive on the bridge. "It seems like I've touched a nerve. I'm sorry. I really meant no disrespect. To be clear, despite what everyone else has said, I have a lot of respect for Doctor Tikar. And while I don't know him very well personally, I actually really did enjoy talking to him. I found the minions line quite funny, at least." She manages to get back on topic a moment later. "I'm trying to understand both the technology at play here and the current circumstances in Rekantha. Talking to her would be really useful, given that she's both Doctor Tikar's collaborator and intimately familiar with the situation on the ground. However, given Starfleet's handling of this situation so far, I thought I might have a better starting point with her if I were to be introduced by a face she already knows, as opposed to me simply showing up."

Ko begins the checklist for the shuttle. "Lieutenant." She says with gravity. "I might wear this uniform, but I'm still a Bajoran." Her speech continues as she seats herself at the pilot's console. "Right now, I'm an outcast on this station. All of the protesters think I'm a traitor. The defense forces don't want to work with me. Half of my coworkers think I'm going to join the mob. It's miserable." The shuttle begins to start. "I will do everything in my power to help these crops and to fulfill what the Captain asks of me, but please don't mock Dr. Tikar."

Davis lets out a long breath. She's silent for a few moment as she picks her words. "As I said, I have a lot of respect for him. When I went to talk to him, I didn't see it as an interrogation. I saw him as a respected colleague, a senior of mine in my field, that I was excited to meet in-person for the first time. I was being playful earlier because he was the same way with me, if only briefly, which I took as a compliment. But I suppose that was too presumptuous of me. I've already apologized, so I'll just say that I'm in his corner probably more than you know. Maybe it's just better to let my actions going forward speak for me, in that regard." She changes the subject here. "This is backtracking a bit, but how do you suppose we get him between the brig and the science lab, given that the Level 9 corridor is full of protestors, and Minister Yaru is sharing a cell with him? Site-to-site transporter?"

Ko gives Davis a nod and resumes business rather than discussing any more personal feelings. "I think that makes sense. I would talk with Dr. Tikar before moving him though." She sends out a message over the communications system. "You'll have to fight with the minister though. She won't want to go without him."

You man Copilot's Console.

[Viewscreen (56437)] Opening communications channel from Emissary Station.

Davis is sitting beside Ko on the bridge of Shuttle Cook. She seems to about to say something, but when the communications channel opens, she falls silent to avoid interrupting.

[Viewscreen (56437)] T'Shaav speaks from her office. "You were using the unencrypted channel that freighters who have business here use. I think that is not what either of you meant to do."

Ko nods at the viewscreen. "We are intending to take the shuttle out for a test flight." She says to T'Shaav. "Lieutenant Davis is here with me. She is wanting to visit with Vara Nisah. I'm feeling we could use this as an opportunity to take her to the planet."

[Viewscreen (56437)] T'Shaav says, ""Indeed. Mr. Ko, re-sync your communications and install the Emissary auxiliary channel."

Davis finally chimes in here, adding a bit of explanation. "There's a lot I might learn from her which could prove useful, and this is also a good opportunity for me to inspect the conditions on the ground."

[Viewscreen (56437)] T'Shaav says, "I agree. Be careful, and learn what you can."

Ko syncs the shuttle with Emissary Station. "It may take us a few days to get the information she needs, Captain."

[Outside the ship] Shuttle Cook is released as the restriction clamps disengage.
[Outside the ship] The alert siren sounds as the landing bay doors open. A forcefield shimmers into view.

[Viewscreen (56437)] T'Shaav says, "I will try to give you your several days, Lieutenants. T'Shaav out."

[Viewscreen (56437)] Connection from Emissary Station terminated.

Ko looks at Davis. "Ready for an adventure?"

The deck plating rumbles as the ship takes off.
[Viewscreen (56437)] Emissary Station's Starboard Landing Bay doors close.

Davis lets out a breath. "Always," she says confidently. "Well, that's what I say, anyway, but I usually end up feeling in over my head not long after. Getting back to what you were saying, what you said about Minister Yaru was exactly one of my worries. I imagine I'll have to explain the situation to Doctor Tikar, and at the same time, do my best to convince the Minister that it will be best if she stays where she is. Honestly, it's not even strictly a problem to bring her along. I would need to get permission from the higher-ups first, but I actually think it might be diplomatically useful for her to see Doctor Tikar and Starfleet working together for once. The problem is that the work might be difficult, and it's probably best to have no distractions." She looks over at Ko. "Do you know anything about Minister Yaru from working this assignment?"

Ko shakes her head and she brings the shuttle into space. "I've never met her." She admits. "I know that she's in the brig. I know she's a politician."

"Understood. Major Toran seemed to be at least passingly familiar with her. And Captain Anewan wanted to be kept in the loop. I should probably ask those two," Davis muses. She's silent for a few moments after that. "Do you really think it will take a few days?" There's an audible note of worry in her voice when she says that. She's nervous. "If we needed to move fast, how quickly could this shuttle get between here and Bajor?"

Ko had brought the shuttle into motion with the press of a button. "The station is almost on top of Bajor." She says with a grin. "We're almost there. The hard part is going to convince Vara Nisah you're there to help."

"What was your experience with her?" Davis asks, turning in her chair slightly to face Ko.

Ko turns to match Davis. "She was busy trying to keep everything afloat. We weren't able to get to know each other too well."

Davis nods, thinking on that. "You mentioned a few days. Did you have to spend a lot of time with her before she opened up to you?"

Ko shakes her head. "You might need a few days for her to become available enough to speak with you." She adds. "Major Toran and I had to leave her be a few times. Maintaining the nanites is very difficult. She doesn't have anyone to help her."

"It sounds like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders," Davis says, her voice quiet. "I've been on the ground trying to hold things together with limited resources before. The scale of her problem, though. I can't imagine. I wish I could stay to help her, but I'm not sure I'd be able to do so, and I don't think we'll have the luxury of staying long."

Ko nods. "I think she'll only take help from Dr. Tikar. You're welcome to ask, but, I wouldn't expect her to jump at the opportunity." She adds. "Even if you were the best scientist in the field of nanites."

"Yeah. When I say help her, in the best case scenario, I'd probably be nothing more than a knowledgeable assistant," Davis replies. "I'm not trying to be presumptuous. It took Doctor Tikar two years of study to understand the principles and develop his own solution. I'm not sure how many it would take me, but I imagine much more than that. Not that I'd get an invitation to the Vulcan Science Academy like he did, to begin with." She turns back to her station, thinking for a moment. "I just figured she might want an extra pair of hands, one that at least knows enough to be useful instead of a hindrance. I think I would, in her shoes. But my guess is that she'll want me to get back to the station as quickly as possible, to help Doctor Tikar get the program running. That's the top priority here. I wish the two of us could sit down and have a leisurely discussion about the science, but that will have to wait."

Ko nods. "I would guess so." She looks at her console. "We're here and in orbit. I'm going to step into the back of the shuttle and prepare to head down." Her hands tap at the controls to lock them out. "If you would monitor our position for a bit..."

Davis nods in reply. "Alright." She turns forward, tapping buttons like people do when they're doing something useful at stations.

Ko returns from the rear of the shuttle with everything she figures she needs. She approaches the pilot's console and prepares it to transport herself and Davis to the surface.

Davis grabs a PADD and stands, readying herself for the transport. "I'm ready to go." She doesn't seem to be bringing anything else.

Ko walks into the transporter alcove and gestures at the wall. "Care to bring us down?" She asks with a smile.

Davis taps at the transporter a few times, getting a few buzzy error messages. "Oh. We forgot to adjust power levels. Give me a moment." She heads out of the alcove toward the bridge. A few computer beeps are audible, and then she returns. "I think we should be good now."

Ko had stayed put while Davis played with the engineering settings. She watches as the new commands are entered in. "Want me to check it?" Her question asked with a smirk.

Davis fumbles with the transporter console for a bit longer. "Sorry. Been out of uniform for a while. I think I've got it now, though. Energizing."

Ko stands straight ready for the transport.

A shimmering swirl of colour engulfs Ko.
Swirls of energy whip around your deconstructed body. Shimmering lumination dances about your form uncontrollably, dazzling every sense.

Farmland <Bajor>

Ko rematerializes in the field with a smile on her face. "I feel at home already." She says with a look over at Davis. "What do you think?" Her hand gestures at the field. All of the crops are dead. The single afar eastern field looks much healthier. "This is what most of Rakantha looks like." A pause. "Did you know that I'm actually from Free Haven?"

Davis materializes a moment after Ko, listening as she introduces the area. "I did not know that. And I'm actually not familiar with the name. Can you tell me about Free Haven?" As she speaks, she rather carefully takes in everything around her. As she does, there's a look on her face that hints at some rather complicated feelings, but she doesn't share them. She swaps her PADD to her left hand and pulls her tricorder out of its holster, flipping it open as she kneels. "I hope you don't mind. The more data that I can get up-close while we're down here, the better. Some scans from the shuttle will probably also prove useful, once we're back up there."

Ko thinks through how to talk about Free Haven. She spends more than a few moments considering the request. "I don't want to think about Free Haven right now." Her answer is given with a softer look. Any of the animus about Davis's impersonation of Dr. Tikar is gone. "Maybe we can talk about it when we know each other better." She moves towards the repurposed barn and debates opening the door. "Whenever you're done, I'm ready to try and meet with Nisah."

"Fair enough. Whenever you feel like it. I should probably tell you about where I'm from, when we're done here, if you're interested." Davis spends a good minute walking around as she talks, scanning various areas, both the thriving field and those that are now dying. She seems to be focusing on scans of both the soil and plants, dead and alive. Eventually, she finishes, closing her tricorder and reholstering it. She returns to where Ko is after she's done with her rounds. "I'm ready."
