Brig Cell Three - Saucer <USS Phoenix NCC-170100-A>
This cell is completely enclosed on five sides by tough duranium. The remaining side opens out into the room beyond, but can be sealed by a forcefield to contain the cell's occupant. There are two benches that double as beds on two of the bulkheads, and a small toilet and wash basin built into another. Apart from that, this small cell is completely devoid of fixtures and furnishings.

[Detention Center - Deck 10] Lieutenant Commander Worthington arrives from Security Complex.
[Detention Center - Deck 10] Coil arrives from Security Complex.

[Detention Center - Deck 10] Darias stumbles as he gets pushed through the door and says roughly, "Watch it, Copper. I'm goin' in the right direction, ain't I?"

[Detention Center - Deck 10] Worthington shoves his phaser into coil's back. "Just keep moving prisoner," he says. "I know you well enough not to let you out of my sight." He pauses by brig cell 3 where he left ferghus. "Ferghus, up against the back wall," he says. "You're getting a cell mate today."

"What those idiots get up to this time?" Ferghus asks, expecting one of his friends to be returning.

[Detention Center - Deck 10] Darias glares back at Worth after being shoved by the phaser, "What's the matter, Copper? Can't spare the people to have more than one cell open at a time?" He heads for the first cell just to keep from being pushed through the field.

Ferghus eyes the drawn phaser. He is not known for his subtlety.

[Detention Center - Deck 10] Worthington quickly lowers the field for coil to enter before putting it back up. He keeps his phaser trained on it from a discrete distance. "Inside," he says.

The forcefield surrounding the compartment fizzles out.

Coil arrives from Detention Center - Deck 10.

The snap of a forcefield can be heard as it surrounds the compartment.

Darias glares out the field, "One of these days, Copper, you won't have that phaser." He flops onto the bench and looks at Ferghus, "Must be a slow day if they're keeping people from the planet in here."

[Detention Center - Deck 10] Worthington checks to make sure everyone is still inside, then he holsters his phaser and heads out, ignoring the 2 men in the cell.

[Detention Center - Deck 10] Lieutenant Commander Worthington holsters Type-2 Phaser (28954).
[Detention Center - Deck 10] Lieutenant Commander Worthington goes Out.

Ferghus gives you a slight head nod, "Planet, right. Who you supposed to be?"

"Name's Darias," Darias replies, the scar on his face giving him a bit of an evil look. "Just was mindin' my business and that Copper drags me in here, sayin' I was causin' trouble again. Who the hell are you?"

"Ferghus" Ferghus says, introducing himself in as simplest terms as possible. "That's like the law, givin' ya trouble when ya ain't done nuttin'."

"Coppers are always claimin' things," Darias agrees. "If I had known they'd be treatin' me like this, I wouldn't have come on this trip to see what they would've been hidin'."

"Hiding?" Ferghus asks, "You mean treasure or something?"

Darias shrugs, "Treasure is what you make of it, Ferghus. Whether it be a market to sell things to, or somethin' new and rare that people want to buy." He looks at Ferghus closer, "Y'folks on the planet use gold, don't ya? But gold is only good if people want it, right?"

"Gold is scarce in Duhring, but I hear there is a new mine in the north." Ferghus says. "That what you think their hiding?"

Darias shakes his head, "Gold ain't valuable to these people. Too easy to replicate, which is the point. They could be findin' things that can't be replicated and are valuable, which is why I let myself be talked into goin'." He leans back against the wall, "What do your people do down there? You obviously are someone of importance."

Ferghus says, "Just biding my time until Fudd retires. We need a firmer hand when it comes to enforcing the law."

"So ya just want to become a Copper," Darias says with a glare, the scar on his facing making it even more evil. "This is a trap."

Ferghus says, "I used to ranch, but the cattle are all gone. Don't much see myself as a miner. They don't live long. Being the sheriff has its perks. Drinks are free." He asks, "Trap?"

Darias continues to glare at Ferghus, "That other Copper tossed me in here to shoot my mouth off, and you just report it to him and prove that you're a Copper as well." He crosses his arms, "Drinks are always free for everyone, so ya can't fool me."

"I ain't no snitch", Ferghus says a little angrily, "And only the Sheriff gets free drinks in Flannigans, and even then he only takes one a night."

"Snitch? You're a wannabe Copper, wantin' free drinks that everyone gets up here," Darias scoffs. "Is that all that the Coppers do down there? Drink because the drinks are free?"

"I drink even when the drinks aren't free." Ferghus replies, "You got a problem with that? And what is all this business of free drinks anyways. Bar can't stay in business if its always given drinks away. And like I said, the law needs proper enforcin'"

Darias scoffs again, "Law? What law? The law that puts people in jail for no reason? That ain't law, that's weak minded fools believin' in the strength of a gun. Real authority ain't the gun or no badge."

"The law that makes sure no Kuvas steps out of line." Ferghus replies.

"Ya got the gun, and they don't right?" Darias asks. "So strength of the gun. Weak minded fool."

"I ain't no fool, stranger." Ferghus says angrily. "you're locked up in here too."

Darias rises to his feet, "At least I didn't need no gun to prove my authority. The weak minded fool with the gun was the one who brought me here." He shakes his head, "Bet you had a gang and they all turned on you now that you ain't got no gun, right? And you wanted to be a Copper?"

"They didn't turn on me." Ferghus says, "They are just weak, and easily manipulated. The gun rules. You won't convince me otherwise, and you wouldn't be so smug if I had my six-shooter with me."

Darias runs his finger down along the scar on his face, "This ain't from no gun. I lived, the guy who gave it to me didn't. The gun is for the weak."

Ferghus smiles, "I can use a knife, but the Kuvas are too fast, six-shooter, or a rifle." He looks at your scar. "You won't be forgetting that fight any time soon."

"You have to be smarter, not faster or better armed," Darias says. "The last people to fight me died and not with my weapons or by my gang. Ya need to stop thinkin' small, if you want to make it in this world."

"And just what do you consider thinkin' big, mister?" Ferghus asks.

Kellen leans against the wall near the forcefield, "Fear isn't a winning hand. Works in the short term, but someone with a bigger gun will come along and put the fear in you. Ya need to learn the lay of the land, see beyond your immediate desires. Why did your ranch lose it's cattle? Slaughter them all? Got them stolen?"

"Sick", Ferghus says, "spread to all of em. Last ones died a couple seasons ago. Haven't been safe to eat since a year or two before that." He shakes his head, "No one woulda dare steal from my ranch."

"Blamed these Kuvas, didn't you?" Darias asks.

Ferghus hadn't considered that, "Damn, you may be right. Another thing to hang em up for."

Darias shakes his head, "And there ya go, proving ya can't think beyond your desires or your hatreds just beause I suggested it. Ya didn't think, you reacted. Bet it was a plant on your ranch, or some other reason, since it took a few years."

"What you gettin' at mister?" Ferghus asks, "Expect me to join your outfit, fight for your cause? I don't even know what your cause is." He waves you off.

"I don't need no bully who only can think with his gun in my outfit," Darias sneers. "You'd only get killed or jailed and bring down a lot of good people with you."

Ferghus scoffs at you, "Whatever, never said I wanted in your gang. I got plans, as soon as I get back to Duhring from wherever this godforsaken place is."

"You'll definitely be in charge, though it might be awfully lonely," Darias turns away to the field. "Hey, I want to talk to the judge. This guy is boring me to death."

Ferghus asks, "Lonely, what you mean?"

Kellen glances over his shoulder, "Word is on the ship that everyone from the planet is headin' to Earth or one of the other planets. Only the smart ones, of course. Anyone who needs a gun will likely stay here to be 'in charge', where they won't have to worry about faster, stronger, or uglier people than the Kuvas."

Ferghus chortles, "Yah right, ain't no getting off this rock. Our ancestors saw to that."

Kellen leans back up against the wall, "Ya ain't on no rock. There ain't nothing but space between the deck under your feet and the planet below for thousands of miles. The ancestors on Earth, like other people, learned to build ships like this and come out here out beyond where your ancestors could even imagine."

"Ive seen the wreckage." Ferghus says, "Spaceships ain't this big."

"Ships weren't this big 600 years ago, you mean," Darias scoffs. "The smart folks learned to bulid bigger and better instead of going around shooting at each other. The people who only care to shoot, build small."

"You saying the Kuvas have ships this big now?" Ferghus asks. "Why haven't I seen any? Explain that to me."

Darias shakes his head, "They ain't part of the Federation, so I don't know what happened to them. Maybe the Rihannsu, maybe the Klingons, maybe even the Orions. This planet is out beyond where the stars are, all by itself. No one has reason to go out here, so no one knew this planet existed until this ship found it." He waves a hand off in a direction, "Back that way, you have the Breen, Cardassians, Tholians, Ferengi, and eventually the Federation and humans before you reach Romulans and Klingons." He gestures in the other direction, "And that way, where we're heading, we don't know what's out there, yet."

Ferghus shakes his head, "All those are aliens humans have had to fight off? So many, but if they were like my ancestors, they could do it."

Darias sits down on the bench again, "There was some fighting, but there were lots of friends made too, Ferghus. The Federation has humans in it, but also Vulcans, Andorians, Tellerites, Trill, and a bunch of other people who want to work together and live together. Then there are the Rihannsu or Romulans and the Klingons, they didn't like the Federation so much, believing their people were superior. The Klingons are now allies, while the Rihannsu remain aloof. As the Federation spread in this direction, they ran into other people, some who joined the Federation while others, like the Klingons and Rihannsu maintain their own regions. Then there are others, like the Ferengi and the Orions, who deal in commerce and don't want to belong to the Federation or anyone else, but want to trade and benefit from everyone."

Ferghus asks, "And all this happens in space? On ships?"

Kellen nods, "Of course. I have my own ship, it's back at Earth right now. Might be around the size of the ship that brought your ancestors here." He chuckles, "Klingon built, but they make good tough ships, and just the right size for my needs when I want to trade goods in places that don't want outsiders."

"Your own ship?" Ferghus asks incredulously, "That's possible? Does it have guns?"

"Only a fool travels in the Dark without something to defend themselves, but she's no warship by herself," Darias replies. "The Phoenix, which is the ship we're on right now, would tear her to pieces in a fight. But she is enough to slip in, slip out and discourage idiots who think a bigger gun makes them the law."

Ferghus feigns yawning, "That's a lot to take in, mister. Not sure I believe any of it, but you're clearly a skilled story teller." His tone suggests he is starting to believe it. "Let me sleep on it."

Darias chuckles, "If I was a true story teller, you'd be payin' me for the story. Sleep on it, if ya must but remember, guns ain't where true strength lies. Otherwise we'd have all been long gone and dead, and someone else would've replaced humans."
