[Sawyer's Commbadge] Ryu says, "Ryu here"
Sawyer says, "Doc Sawyer here. Meet me in my office if you'd be so kind, Ensign."
[Sawyer's Commbadge] Ryu nods says "On my way sir"
Sawyer says, "Good, see you soon."
- Chief Medical Officer's Office <USS Phoenix NCC-170100-A>
- The carpet is steel-blue with navy-blue trim, with the bulkheads, walls, and furniture in a subdued pewter color. The room is bathed in a soft glow from the overhead lighting panels, and a glossy black panel set into the bulkhead opposite the door provides access to an LCARS interface. A sizeable desk is positioned in the center of the room, with a tall backed swivel chair behind it. A display curves out of the desk with a touchpad set into the desk at its base, and on the opposite end is a tall, built-in lamp.
- In front of the desk are two comfortable-looking guest chairs, and a seating area with a sofa, coffee table, and an arm chair has been set up near the replicator. Two additional computer stations are present which can be slaved to the main desktop console or used independently depending on the need. A glass-fronted secured cabinet sits high on one wall. A number of bottles of various shapes and sizes are shelved neatly behind the smoky glass front of the cabinet.
The door chime at Out sounds, "*be boowoop*"
You knock with 'It opens.'.
You knock with 'Well come in already.'.
Ensign Ryu arrives from Medical Administration Foyer.
Sawyer has his feet up on his desk, some computer data on a screen nearby.
Ryu Walks into the office and says "Sorry thought you were one of the officers who prefer a knock before rushing in" she approaches and stands to attention
"I do," the doctor says. "Have a seat, Ensign. Tell me about this bidnis on Orias Three."
Ryu sits down and says "Okay, Commander Coil can fill in any gaps I may leave out but He took a trip to Orias III where the planet's eco system has been attacked by something unknown, barely any vegetation or plantlife had remained, while there he found the corpse of one of his captors and the strange thing was the plant life and vegetation around the immediate vicinty of teh corpse was regenerating and thriving, I've been going over the data and scan readings he took and I'm at a loss of explanation, it would be helpful to have medical cast an eye over what Coil has presented, unfortunately he couldn't recover the corpse as he had to make a quick exit"
"Mr. Coil is on a leave of absence and is who the hell knows where," Sawyer says. "So don't bet on his filling in any gaps. Don't leave any. Now," the doctor squints. "Are you tellin' me that all you have is second hand information?"
Ryu nods and says "Unfortunately given Orias II is deep within Cardassian Territory Commander Coil only had time to take tricorder readings before he had to get away from Cardassian patrols plus the Tzenkethi were also snooping around as well"
Sawyer nods. "Well ensign, I can understand that. But you understand the possible limitations here. I don't have samples. All I have are second-hand tricorder readings, and as good as tricorders are, they can't always tell us everything." He points to the data on the screen. "That's the data. That's it. I'm tryin' to run some bioanalyses on the sh ... on the stuff. But we'll see."
Ryu nods and says "I'm sorry sir, if it was possible I could ask the captain if we could sneak back to Orias and get more defined readings and recover the corpse but with the Tzenkethi inside Cardassian Space and along with the heightened Cardassian patrols it would be impossible to get there undetected"
Sawyer nods. "Yeah that's a bad idea. We'll just go on what we got. So, you're a scientist. What was your initial hypothesis?"
Ryu rubs her chin and says "Since the corpse was one of Commander Coil's captors the corpse must have been in close proximity to the equipment enabling the Cardassian ships to fire while cloaked so I'm hypothesising that the corpse somehow gained something in its bloodstream that is enabling the plant life and vegitation to regenerate and thrive"
"Maybe. But while we're puttin' swags out there ... you know what a SWAG is, right ensign?" Sawyer interrupts himself.
Ryu shakes her head and says "Swag Sir/ I'm not familiar with that term other than it being a term for a criminal's haul in a theft or robbery"
Sawyer chuckles. "SWAG. A scientific wild-ass guess. So here's mine. A biogenic agent."
Ryu nods and says "Okay, I guess we can investigate more on those lines, teh Cardassians have been known to delve into biogenetics in weaponry, perhaps there was more to that base than we originally thought"
"Well, we need to stay open to wherever the data lead us," the doctor says judiciously. "Now, log into that station over there," and he points to one of the ones beside his desk, "and see if you can isolate the molecular decay sequence from these data."
Ryu nods and sits down at the station and starts working on whats been asked.
Sawyer gives the young scientist some time to work at it. "Anything show itself?" He asks in a friendly way.
Ryu shakes her head and says "Nothing so far, I'll keep trying"
Sawyer walks over and begins punching in a series of inquiries into the machine. "I just wish we had more data," he laments quietly to himself.
Ryu nods and says "I'm not picking anything up"
"I'm not surprised," Sawyer says. He frowns at the screen. "Wonder if any of these decay readings were radiating in the theta band. That might let us answer the biogenics question. But even if not, that don't rule out biogenics. I think someone wanted to make an example of this plannet, Ensign."
Ryu nods and says "Still doesn't explain why the plantlife was regenerating around the corpse" she taps in a few commands into her console.
"Now that is pretty damned interesting. Kinda rules out a global biogenic. Or I think it does," Sawyer says. "Ensign, I'm gonna let the computer chew on this some more. I'll let yall know if anything actually turns up. But don't hold your breath. If I get to talk to Kellen, I'll ask him what he thinks."
Ryu nods as she stands and says "Okay sir, I'll see you later then" she heads out.
