Joining an Away Mission Already in Progress

Road <Dreon VII>
About half a kilometer long, this winding road leads up a small hill to the main colony village. The path is well worn, but shows signs of limited use of late, with small blossoms and grass poking through the topsoil.

Ensign Znaiyu arrives from Central Square.

Lieutenant Commander Worthington arrives from Central Square.

Znaiyu falls in behind Coil at an easy stride. "So what kind of insects are we looking at?"

One of the nearby fields has been burnt off, a remnant of getting rid of the insects plaguing the planet.

Worthington falls in with the group as well. "An infestation usually used as a scam for poorer colonies that don't use fertilizer addatives common on more industrial worlds. They lace the planet with them, then come in and offer the solution, for a price."

Coil heads for the edge of the burnt off field, pulling out his tricorder and running scans, "Insects are always hard to identify visually because there can be variations in colors, markings, and shape even between siblings from the same hatching."

Znaiyu gives a short, disgusted growl from the back of her throat. "They've been left with a huge mess, this looks like it'll take ages to bear crops again. How much more difficult are we looking at if there are more than one insect species to get rid of?"

Worthington considers. "That remains to be seen. We have the solution for the first insect species replicating aboard our ship," he replies.

"Probably not that difficult, Ensign," Kellen says absently as he walks further out from the edge of the field. "And this field actually will be more fertile when it's replanted, because the ash and remains helps fertilize the field."

A local can be seen running down the road from the same direction you all came from. They stop briefly noticing you at the edge of the field, then continue on towards the tarmac.

Znaiyu's sharp ears flick and she turns away from Coil, watching the local's flight. "What's off that way?" she points, asking her colleagues before interrupting the citizen.

Worthington answers. "That's the local spaceport," he replies. "It's a decent distance from the town square, so we don't beam down there usually. Any traffick bound for the colony would land there, usually freighters or transports. Dreon doesn't get a lot of traffick."

Coil continues to gaze at his tricorder as he turns to walk through the ashy remains of the field, "It's not a bad spaceport either. I've landed on far worse."

"Someone must have treats on the way," Znaiyu says, watching the running figure. Then she calls out to it, "Hey! What's the hurry?" - friendly and unconcerned, just always interested in the newest action. She doesn't stray more than a few feet from her colleagues though.

Swirls of energy whip around your deconstructed body. Shimmering lumination dances about your form uncontrollably, dazzling every sense.

Sickbay <Maruh Josor>
Not more than a closet really, sickbay for the vessel is tucked into one of the side compartments and obviously isn't a priority. A single biobed is here, then a few storage compartments below it, and up along the far wall.

The vessel vibrates slightly as it accelerates to warp speeds.

You find yourself in a strange sickbay aboard a class of ship that would not be obvious to you. Not long after you beam in a pair of Kaleans enter the compartment and begin man handling you down onto the bed.

Coil isn't one to get manhandled easily even when caught off guard and starts off with attempting to kick the nearest Kalean.

You are overpowered by the pair, who manage to get your legs tied down, but not your hands yet.

Coil lashes out with his tricorder, not even caring if he destroys the device if it ends up helping him get free, attempting to hit one of the Kaleans with it.

One of the Kaleans is trying to hold down your left arm while the other ducks away from your throw, giving you yet another opportunity to free yourself.

Coil does draw his phaser this time and shoots at the Kalean who's trying to hold him down.

You draw Type-1 Phaser (4599).
You try to shoot Lone with Type-1 Phaser (4599) but miss.
A computer generated voice says, "*** ALERT *** : Weapons fire detected in Sickbay."

Your phaser blast catches the Kaleans off guard, but they decide to stop playing around. One grabs a hypo and sticks you with it.

You are knocked unconscious.

While you are unconscious, the rest of your hidden equipment is taken, and you are securely fashioned to the bed.

Coil comes back to from the knockout drugs and shakes his head to clear it while discreetly testing the bonds holding him. "What the hell do you want?"

"Quiet!" is all the one remaining Kalean says, the other has left the compartment.

Coil eyes the remaining Kalean, "Says who?"

"Just quiet." The Kalean responds, "You'll get your chance to talk, the ones who paid us are looking forward to it."

Coil struggles a bit against the bonds, "Your employer should have just sent an invitation. I'm not a fan of the accomodations that you've chosen to give me, and I'll be sure to let them know."

A few hours pass.

The vessel drops out of warp.

The second Kalean arrives, and between the two of them they bind your hands behind your back, and your legs together. Once free from the bed they signal the bridge. "Energize"

Coil struggles as much as he can to make it difficult for them, but is at a serious disadvantage through the process.

Swirls of energy whip around your deconstructed body. Shimmering lumination dances about your form uncontrollably, dazzling every sense.

Shed <Orias III>
Once a tool shed of somekind, this shed has been cleared out recently, with nothing left behind but a chair, a light hanging from the ceiling, and a cot. The ground is covered in inches of dust, easily stirred up from the slightest breeze, when the door is opened.

You arrive alone, the sound of the wind and what could be sand, batter against the sides of the shed.

Coil looks around once the transporter effect fades away, struggling against the bindings seriously now that there appears to be no one to stop him.

The wind continues to blow dust against the shed wall. THe sound intermixed with two pairs of footsteps.

Coil continues to try to free himself of the bindings as he wrinkles his nose, whether at the dust or the atmosphere remains to be seen.

Outside the shed a female voice can be heard, "I told you this was a mistake, you're always making rash decisions."

Coil decides he can't get free of the bindings enough with someone outside, so finally just takes a seat on the chair and does his best to look relaxed and in control.

"No, this was the right move. Now we have some leverage on Starfleet, they will have to capitulate." A second voice, this one a male, replies.

Coil sits and listens and waits.

The woman replies, "As soon as we contact them with our demands, they will know where we are and just come and get him."

"You don't think I've thought of that? The Maruh Josor, their captain said he would help us." The man replies, "They can send the message far away from here."

The woman replies, her hand on the door handle to the shed, "You can't trust that ilk, they are working their own angle." The two Cardassians enter the shed, "Damn it" the man said, "HE was supposed to be unconscious."

Coil smiles at them both, "Good help is always hard to find, isn't it? So nice of you to join me, though if you wanted to hide who kidnapped me better, you really shouldn't have taken me to a planet that obviously is within your space. Your mining methods leave your planets all rather distinctive."

"We don't care what you know." The man says. The woman however takes a slightly different approach. "We just didn't expect you to be conscious."

"So which of the Admirals put you up to this?" Kellen asks. "Jane? Hauser? Sorod?" He looks both over, "I doubt Starfleet will care much about it since I'm just a science officer and nobody important."

The pair don't respond to the first two names, and flinch a little at Sorod. "They don't care about us. You don't care about us. We've had little choice you see." The woman says.

Coil shrugs as best as he can with the bindings, "I care more than you may be aware, but a science officer going missing is hardly noteworthy beyond my ship." He shifts a bit, "Can you at least unbind my hands? This is rather uncomfortable. You can leave my legs bound, if that makes you feel more comfortable, though I think a Trill would stand out even if I were to leave this shed."

"It doesn't really matter, there is nothing here, nowhere to go, no water to drink." The man says, "At least in here you are spared the harshness of the winds and the dust. But you are useless to us dead." The woman bursts into tears on the last word. She crumples to the floor, the state of her becoming a little more clear. She may have not eaten in a week.

Coil gets up and turns so that the bindings on his hands can be removed, "Is this Volan then?"

The man attempts to console the woman, kneeling beside her, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry we lost him." He shakes his head, "No, I suppose it won't matter. This is Orias III. We've been forgotten, no more aid from the Federation. Aid we counted on to survive." He looks at you, "You must be important enough, or else they won't help."

Coil sighs softly, "I know some people who have been helping. They were running supplies to Volan until the military reinforced it. The last I heard, the military is so thick there, that not even a cloaked freighter can get close enough." He considers what he was said, "Orias? That's a fair deep stretch from anyone's space."

The woman says, tearfully, "We've received nothing but false promises from the military."

"Has the Detapa done anything to stop the military?" Kellen asks. "We only know what the military screams aobut to the news, and what little the people I know have been able to tell me."

"All but gone, as far as we know." The man replies. "We get so little news from anywhere." The woman adds.

Coil sits down on the cot, "Ok, this has been pulling at the heartstrings and all, but would you like to tell me what you're really after? The money you've spent to kidnap me could've gotten both of you and hundreds of others pullled off of this planet and even taken to Federation space as refugees. Or even have them bring in food and water." He looks at both of them, "My commander was standing right there in red, not blue, and he would've been a more valuable hostage. So none of this is passing even the first round of a scientific review, let alone getting published."

The woman shakes her head, "We've spent no money. The" she looks at her husband, "Kaleans said they would bring us the right one. That you would be important enough that the Federation would help us." THe man looks at you, "Aren't you the one who solved the food issue on Dreon?"

Coil shakes his head, "No, I haven't. I was standing in the middle of a burned out field, looking for more information when you kidnapped me." He neglects to mention that the reports were barely filed.

"They tricked you, I said they would." The woman says to the man. "No, but, you must be the one." Frustrated he takes his wife's hand and helps her up. "You may just die here then, if you are so useless to us." The pair of them depart the shed, locking the door behind them.

Coil watches them leave and settles in for a long wait as best as he can with the bindings.

The morning remains quiet, except for the wind throwing dust at the side of the shed. If you slept, it would not have been easy.

Coil remains patient, calm, relaxed, dozing on the cot when necessary but otherwise just waiting his captors out since there's nothing else he can do and with the bindings, he can't even eat or drink.

As you sit and wait a very loud storm can be heard in the area. You can nearly feel the electrical charge in the air. Luckily the walls of the shed are of a material that does not conduct electricity.

Coil just lays there passively. If he's being watched, his captors aren't getting much entertainment from it.

The cot your are on is old and rickety, it is made out of metal. If you can get yourself into the right position it may be possible to use it to cut through your bonds.

Coil fidgets a bit as he attempts to use the cot's metal to work on easing his bonds discreetly.

The storm overhead grows louder, a lightning strike hits nearby, the sound cracks hard through the air. Not a drop of rain can be heard.

Coil continues to fidget as he listens to the storm, working out the physics of the storm in his head given the limited data he's got from what he can observe. He frowns as he considers the possibilities especially in light of the missing Sauran scientist.

Another close lightning strike hits the ground not far from the shed. The smell of burnt air is strong. But almost immediately, the sounds of the storm subside, until on the dust banging against the shed wall is left.

Coil mutters a curse in Orion as the storm moves off and then turns his attention back to working on his bonds.

Some time after the storm dissipates, footsteps can be heard approaching the shed. The Cardassian male's voice can be heard, "They said they were beaming down. We can ask them then if this is really the one we were looking for."

Coil sits up as it sounds like he has visitors, and waits while glaring at the door.

"I told you it was a trick, why would they help us." The woman can be heard replying. "They should have left already, sent out your ransom message."

Coil shakes his head slowly to himself as he hears that. Mercenaries.

"I'm sure they have sent it. I don't know why they have come back." is the man's reply. Before long the sound of someone beaming in can be heard.

Coil sits and waits to hear the inevitable betrayal.

Judging by the voices, though you heard little of it before, the Kaleans have returned. "Did you get what you wanted from him?" One asks. The second Kalean says, "We have another buyer."

Coil shakes his head and supresses a sigh.

"What we wanted? No, you said we could have him, and you would send the message, the message to the Federation. They must help us." The Cardassian man says. His wife doesnt verbally say I told you so, but she does begin weeping. "We're lost."

The second Kalean says, "Where is the boy? Time for you to pay up as well."

Coil frowns deeper and strains at his bonds to see if his attempts earlier finally gets him free.

The woman cries out, "No! What do you mean?" She turns on her husband, "What does he mean, you offered our son in exchange?" Her tears get the better of her, and she falls silent.

One of the straps on your wrist is cut, you should be able to wiggle them free with some additional effort.

The Cardassian male says to his wife, "I had to, this was too important." He then says to the Kaleans, "It is moot however. The boy is dead. Died a week ago. You can't have him."

Coil struggles harder at the straps holding his wrists, sensing the situation outside is going downhill fast.

"You're lying, you can't hide the boy from us. Where is he." One of the Kaleans says.

The Cardassian woman screams, "He's dead, you animal." She can be heard running off. One of the Kaleans hot on her tail.

Coil curses softly under his breath again as he finally works is hands free and then works on unbinding his feet.

The other Kalean asks, "Where is the starfleeter?"

The sound of a phaser blast rings through the air, then a thud as a body hits the dirt outside.

Coil gets his feet free and breaks a metal bar free from the cot before he hears the phaser blast. At that sound, he knocks the remains of the cot over so someone could conceivably be hiding behind it and then steps up beside the doorway, where he could be hidden by the door when it's open.

Your scuffling and throwing of furniture may have masked the potential return of the other Kalean, but there is another phaser blast, this time to the lock on the door to the shed.

Coil grips the metal bar and waits, this time prepared even if not as well armed as the last time he faced these two.

The door is kicked open, the lock, or what remains of it, goes flying across the room.

The first thing to enter the shed is the oustretched hand of one of the Kaleans, and in it, his weapon.

Coil strikes out with the bar, deciding that getting the phaser will increase his chances more than the bar would given he no longer has his trusty knife.

The Kalean's pistol is wrenched from his hand and it bobbles across the floor. THe Kalean screams out in pain, pulling his hand back, holding it in the other.

Coil slams the door into the Kalean before scooping up the pistol, shifting the bar to his off hand.

The Kalean is pushed back out of the shed as you slam the door in his unprepared face.

Coil carefully opens the door again and peers outside to take in the situation, pistol pointing at the Kalean he knows about while looking for the other one.

Only one of the Kaleans is currently visible outside. He has yet to regain his composure.

Coil coughs a bit as the dust being kicked up irritates his dry throat. He steps out and searches the fallen Kalean, pistol held to his head.

The door leading out creaks open.

Silos <Orias III>
The ground here is as equally as dry as the fields and surrounding areas. One of the tall silos has toppled over, weakened with age, and no grain within it to help buffer against the wind.
A shed is attached to the silos on the western face.

The door into the shed creaks closed.

The dead body of the male Cardassian lays crumpled on the ground. Not far from him, a remnant of one of the lightning strikes has turned the ground into glass.

The Kalean looks about to struggle, but with the gun at his head, he stops. "A fighter, just like you were on our ship. Good, it makes this more interesting."

Coil glances at the dead Cardassian as he continues to search the Kalean, removing anything useful like communicator, weapons, ammo, etc. Kellen says quietly and earnestly, "You won't live long enough to be interested."

"You do not frighten me, little Trill." The Kalean replies.

As luck would have it, you find your gear on the Kalean. Safely tucked into the pockets of his coat. Coil just shoots the Kalean right in the head with his own pistol, not caring what setting it's on, as he says, "I don't need to frighten, I just need to even the odds."

The Kalean goes frigid, then falls backwards in a solid womp. Scores of dust fills the air like a cloud.

Coil works on stashing and concealing his gear again as he looks around for the other Kalean.

Coil looks in the dust to try to figure out which way the Cardassian woman and the other Kalean went. Using the dust as cover, the second Kalean comes barging in towards you.

Coil ducks at the last second and shoots the Kalean with his buddy's pistol, while coughing at the dust.

The Kalean is struck in the back, but doesnt stumble. They eventually turn to face you, but at least 20 meters off.

Coil nods to the fallen Kalean, "Your friend was quite helpful, at least while he was alive." He keeps the pistol pointed at the other Kalean, "So who's your other buyer? Slavery isn't accepted around these parts without the appropriate dues paid to the right people, and they'd be very upset with your target, I would think."

"They will be along." The Kalean looks at his wrist, "Soon."

Coil grins, "Then maybe they'll be glad to pay me since you won't be alive to collect after murdering these people." He shoots.

The Kalean falls back, clearly stunned. "You won't be laughing soon."

An array of colourless light grows around you, surrounding your deconstructed body.

Brig Cell 1 <Cardassian Keldon Fleet>
This cubic room is completely bare of anything. Not even a door is visible to the naked eye.

The snap of a forcefield can be heard as it surrounds the compartment.

You find yourself once again extricated from where you were. This time, all of your "dangerous" possessions have been beamed off in the process. The Kalean is in the cell with you.

Coil takes in the change of venue and armament with only a blink, before hauling off and attempting to kick the Kalean.

The Kalean is knocked unconscious.

The vessel vibrates slightly as it accelerates to warp speeds.
