Observation Deck - Stardrive <USS Phoenix NX-170100>
Located at the top of the stardrive section, not including the two large nacelles that can be seen out the aft window, and just aft of the saucer shuttlebay, sits the stardrive observation deck. The domed ceiling is a criss-cross of bulkheads and transparent-aluminium affording the occupants of this large space an excellent view of incoming and outgoing shuttles as they skim just above the ceiling.
The decor is brighter than some compartments, with the majority of the walls an off-white. The furniture varies both in shape and size, but all serve the same function, a comfortable place to take a break. There are a few tables interspered around the space, some with low plushy chairs, others of a more bar variety where a person standing would be at eye level with those sitting. Along the outer walls are some curved sofas, some large enough for a group of six to eight, others for a couple or trio. To the aft port side of the deck are a set of large, mobile, motion activated, heat lamps. While mobile, all personnel are requested to return the lamps to this location after use.
To one side of the turbolift is a series of beverage and food replicators, while on the other is a bar complete with a number of stools. When available, the bartender can whip up something special.
Several rows of chairs fill the forward section of the compartment, all of which are facing aft towards a centrally placed podium.
Through the domed ceiling: The interior of a dock can be seen.

The observation deck is slowly beginning to fill up. There are many officers here, some that may be familiar.

Worthington enters in full dress regalia, and starts walking around the room.

The Vulcan emerges onto the stardrive observation deck in full dress, looking around to see which of her comrades is already here.

Kadn is standing next to Kemper, he sees a few familiar faces finally and offers a big smile.

Worthington notes the bajoran and human, and moves over, offerning a salute to both.

Sawyer strolls in, not saluting anybody, but hefting his doctor's bag in case. He harumphs and heads to the bar, looking happy.

LePage generally stands around waiting for something to coalesce, but he does eye the bar himself.

Hauser enters in her modest dress uniform, looking around. She smiles at the big Bajoran admiral. Then, for some reason, she beelines for the Vulcan. "Lieuten, uh, commander?" She says as she gets over there.

Kadn continues to smile, "Glad you could make it." He says to Worthington. He spots a couple other familar faces, and waves at them.

T'Shaav considers the ensign approaching her. "I have not been a lieutenant in 9.8 years, Ensign," she notes dryly. "Then when I first came aboard this ship, I was."

Worthington smiles to the bajoran. "It's good to be here," he says.

Sawyer grins at LePage. "Got ya some rank. Get my buddy here a warp core breach," he says to the bar tender in a friendly way.

"Good lord, haven't had one of those in years..." LePage says, chuckling as he wanders over

Sawyer is receiving a substantive drink as the lift opens yet again. "Cheers," he says.

Temple steps out of the Turbolift and looks around, he walks over to a table and grabs a drink

Worthington sees T'Shaav and heads over. "Commander," he greets. "I hope you are well."

Hauser finishes a conversation with Commander T'Shaav. Spotting her first captain, she crosses the room, pausing to collect a drink from a passing server. "Commander Temple," she calls to get his attention.

Kadn says excuse me to Worth as he spots Tink. He heads towards her.

"Since I am not in sickbay, that is a reasonable inference, Commander," the Vulcan replies, studying the human.

"I can fix that," Sawyer says to T'Shaav as he passes by, heading for Kellen. "Kellen!"

Worthington restrains himself from laughing out of respect. "I am glad you were able to attend. It is good to see you again," he says.

Temple looks towards Hauser and smiles saying "Ensign, nice to see you, hows the Sao Paulo treating you?"

Svetzvani is handed a drink by a passing waitor almost immediately after stepping off the lift. Her gaze sweeps the room, recognizing a lot of faces, but her eyes stop sweeping when she sees Biran. She smiles and makes her way toward him as well. "Fancy meeting you here, Sailor," she says playfully to him when she gets close enough to be heard over the rest of the room's conversations.

T'Shaav nods. "And you, Mr. Worthington," she says. "I trust your duties aboard the Sao Paulo are going well."

Ryu steps tentatively out of the Turbolift, she's not sure if its right for her to attention since she was only assigned to the Phoenix for a few weeks but she decides to just go with teh flow.

"You mean how am I treating it?" Hauser says to Temple with a grin. "No core breaches yet. She's behaving, sir."

Kadn smiles at Tink, "I heard you might be in town."

"Chill!" Sawyer waves to the Andorian when he spots him coming in. "Over here," he invites. He appears to be somewhere near Coil.

Worthington nodds to tT'Shaav. "It is going quite well. Thank you commander," he replies. "We are all adjusting quite well to our new assignment."

Temple nods as he sip his drink and places a hand on a bulkhead and gives it a fond stroke saying "This ship brings back a few fond memories hopefully teh Sao paulo will do the same for you Ensign"

Somyk heads towards the podium and assumes a spot a couple meters behind it and to the left.

Shulon's antennae curl towards Sawyer, "Save some of the celebration for after, Phil." He replies with a smile, heading that way.

T'Shaav nods. "I would expect no less," she says. "Did you ever resolve the matter of temporal anomalies in the Tessan system?" She notes the arrival of the Vulcan CinC. She offers him a nod and a Vulcan salute as he passes on the way to the podium.

Tink holds her drink safely off to one side as she leans against Biran's front and raises herself up on her toes. "I guess my reputation precedes me," she says with a twinkle in her eyes. Her lips find his and she kisses him deeply, not caring who may be watching.

Ryu walks over to a group of officers from the Sao Paulo that she recognises

Kadn scoops Tink up in one arm, returning the kiss. Somewhat reluctantly he lowers her back down. "Indeed" he smiles at her.

Tink maintains her smile and sips her drink, eyes locked on her husband. After a few seconds she reluctantly breaks his gaze to look around at the others.

T'Shaav walks the perimeter of the room, exhcnaging occasional greetings. TO anyone who knows her well, she would appear to be doing a discrete security check.

Ki'Vek finds the gathering already in progress when she exits the lift of the very familiar Phoenix stardrive. Immediately she begins looking for heat lamps.

LePage is still at the bar with Phil, but starts to gravitate back towards the crowd as he sees things begin to pick up, leaving his glass at the bar for the time being.

Worthington congregates near the podeum to watch.

Temple is standing beside Hauser as he turns towards the Podium to see if the festivity is beginning

Ryu walks to a spot beside Worthington and takes a sip of the drink she has in her hand.

Emitting from the intercom system is the telltale 'call to order' chime, signalling the start of the proceedings.

Sawyer grins over at Ki'vek. He grabs LePage's glass off the bar, sniffs it, looks disgusted, and walks after him. "Hey. I ain't finishin' this fer ya," he tells his compadre.

"I was trying to be classy and not have a drink in the cerimony" LePage whispers back

Kadn gives Tink another hug, "I'll find you after." He heads up to stand beside Kemper and Somyk.

Rising from his seat, Admiral Somyk approaches the podium. His fingers interlaced before his chest, he patiently waits for everyone to take their seat and for silence to come over the gathered crowd.

T'Shaav ends up near the podium, possibly accidentally. Possibly not. Her gazes takes in the room from that vantage point. On the admiral's cue, she turns to face forward again.

Ki'Vek takes a position to one side of the chairs near the back of the room. She coils up as usual and settles in to observe.

Sawyer disposes of both their drinks with a passing waiter. He grins at LePage.

LePage rolls his eyes and takes a seat

Shulon too finds somewhere to sit. His antennae ever active as they become inundated with the crowds shuffling.

Hauser ends up at the back of the room. She takes a seat in the back row, but still able to see.

Svetzvani nods to Biran, then walks past Sawyer. She hooks her arm around his and syas, "Hey, Phil. Let's find seats." She offers him a smile and a peck on the cheek.

Sawyer grins. "Absolutely. Lead on, lady."

Temple walks over to seat beside the other commanding officers and sits downRyu walks over to a seat somewhere in the middle of the rows of seats and sits down

"It is a long standing Earth tradition to formally rename a vessel." Somyk begins, "There are many variations of this protocol, with the Federation Starfleet adopting this specific ceremony 286 years ago upon its inception. The role of chairperson for these proceedings rarely falls upon the Chief of Starfleet Operations, but on this occasion the honour has been bestowed upon me."

T'Shaav listens, fingers steepled before her.

Svetzvani finds a pair of seats as the Admiral begins to speak. She takes one and pats the other for Phil to take.

With the exception of his moving lips, Somyk remains relatively motionless standing at the podium. "The USS Phoenix was commissioned 19.76 years ago this Stardate. In that time it accomplished scientific missions that Starfleet had not been witness to since the Dominion War. The crew of USS Phoenix, some of whom are present today, searched for and located USS Antietam, returning it and many of its crew safely home to the Federation." Somyk continues to go on at length, listing out the accomplishments of the Phoenix and its crew over the past two decades.

Sawyer is settled in beside Svetzvani as the Admiral starts.

Shulon shuffles a bit in his seat, as do his antennae on his head.

LePage tries to look comfortable in his seat.

T'Shaav regards the admiral and his recitation impassively. Of course, he's not going to miss any notable event.

"Which brings us to the present day as we celebrate those accomplishments." Somyk says.

Temple listens to the admiral, his mind thinking back to the times of the Antietam mission

The echoing of a single bell chime rings throughout the deck.

Worthington is listening silently and respectfully from his position in the front row, watching the admiral with alert attention.

Ryu listens to teh Admiral respectfully

Svetzvani listens to the Admiral, glancing around at her former shipmates as she sips her champagne.

Hauser is listening, eyes locked on the admiral with interest.

Somyk continues, "At the request of Branch Admiral Samuel Peyton Kemper, and with the approval of my office, from this Stardate forward, NX-170100 USS Phoenix will be formally known as NCC-170100 USS Excelsior. A name with an impressive history in Starfleet in its own right." Somyk gives a barely noticeable gesture with his left hand, then turns to face aft and upwards towards the domed ceiling.

LePage tilts his head forward. He's got a largely stone-set expression

Shulon's antennae focus upwards as he cranes his own neck to look that way.

Kadn turns in his own spot to look up at the ceiling.

Worthington looks up at the ceiling as well.

Ki'Vek turns instead toward the windows, looking out over what was once her engineering section and the ship's twin massive nacelles.

T'Shaav continues to regard Somyk.

Hauser looks up with interest.

Svetzvani looks up also, but just to figure out what everyone's looking at.

A series of panels in the domed ceiling begin to magnify a section of the interior of the station a few hundred meters away. Centered within that magnification is a dark object that glints every few seconds as it rotates.

Worthington looks at this dark object rotating through the ceiling panels.

Eventually the glinting object can be made out as a tumbling champagne bottle, heading directly for the hull of this vessel.

T'Shaav glances briefly at the visual, nodding to herself. Of course, Somyk would leave nothing out.

Temple watches and nods in approval

Worthington nodds in acknowledgement as he sees the bottle on course for the ship.

"Bet it's vintage," Sawyer mutters to Svetzvani.

As the bottle approaches, and the panels continue to magnify it, the words "Dom Perignon - 2408" can be read on its face.

Finally, the magnification zooms out as the bottle strikes the hull, shattering, its contents spraying out.

"Good stuff," Tink mutters as she winks at Phil.

Shulon stands up and begins clapping.

Worthington claps along and rises in ovation.

Hauser turns to her closest comrade. "Wonder if that means we'll be renaming Sao Paulo to Phoenix," she stage whispers. Then she too stands to applaud.

Kadn returns his gaze to those assembled and he too applauds.

LePage stands up and claps. Quietly.

Somyk steps down from the podium to resume his previous location.

Ki'Vek turns back to the crowd, but doesn't join in the applause.

T'Shaav cannot be said to clap, ever. But she does stand respectfully.

The 'Dismissed' chime emits from the intercom system, signalling the end of the proceedings. Waiters begin mingling amongst the crowd, distributing various beverages.

Temple applauds

Svetzvani finishes off the champagne in her flute and hands the empty to a waiter, then takes a full instead.

Kadn speaks quietly with the other two admirals briefly, then makes his own way through the crowd towards Tink.

Worthington starts looking around as he walks, then spots coil. He makes his way over to the trill.

LePage beelines for the bar again, making himself comfortable there.

T'Shaav pays her respects to Kemper. Then she faces Somyk and dips her head in a slight bow. "Admiral," she greets in her native tongue. "It is agreeable to see you once again."

Sawyer strolls around the room, shaking hands, if the other parties have them, smiling, exchanging greetings. He ends up near Shulon. "So how about it, CHill. Think we get to be the new Phoenix?"

The ceremony appears to be over, so Ki'Vek uncoils herself and moves to the aft window/wall. Her dark yellow gaze again takes in the view from above of the stardrive section.

Worthington asks coil as he approaches. "So, commander, what all have you been up to since we last spoke?" he queries.

Hauser ends up beside the Selay, giving her a smile. "You ever miss engineering, Commander?" She asks quietly.

Somyk bows his head towards T'Shaav, but does not say anything. He has spoken a lot today.

Shulon's antennae once again take up circling the compartment, listening. He smiles at Sawyer, "If it was to be, we should have heard already, I'm thinking."

T'Shaav makes her way around the room, taking up a position somewhere in the middle. It lets her see everything, at least.

LePage gets aquainted with something blue and sparkly in a glass

"In many ways, Operations it is still engineering," the Selay replies. "I will always be an engineer, Ensign. Even when my duties they do not call for engineering expertise." She says this without looking away from the view out the window.

"Ya never know," Sawyer says to Shulon. "That's better," he commends LePage, heading that way in passing.

"How do you figure that, sir?" Hauser says, giving the snake a curious look. "That ops is still engineering. But I agree with the second bit. You'll always be an engineer."

Svetzvani steps toward Kadn and greets him with a smile again. "End of an era, I suppose," she says and slips her hand into his.

"And the beginning of another," T'Shaav adds, hearing the comment and slipping that way. She nods to both. "Captain, admiral," she greets.

Worthington keeps moving down the line, heading toward the happy couple. He approaches tink and kadn. "Admiral, captain," he greets as well. "It is always good to see you both. Captain, it's a shame you will not be joining us."

Kadn nods slowly to his wife, "Mixed emotions too." He smiles at T'Shaav, "How are you Commander?" He nods to Worthington too.

Somyk slips out.

Ki'Vek finally turns away from the window to face Hauser. "I deal less now with engines, but there's much computer engineering, programming, design, coordination, and development. Many of those overlap with engineering and require skills which are interchangable."

Temple sips his drink as he looks around

"I keep well, sir," the Vulcan says. "It is an oddity, holding the same rank as my commanding officer, but Lya Station Alpha is presently at peace." She nods to Svetzvani. "Captain, sometime before we leave, I should be pleased to have a word with you on an official item."

Shulon's antennae sense a disturbance in the force as he approaches the bar, "Phil, Gordon."

LePage raises a drink. "Captain"

Hauser nods slowly. "Ok, I get that," she says. "Do you wana be a starship captain someday?"

"Spent some fine years here, didn't we?" Sawyer says. He's drinking something sea green in color.

Ryu walks over to a window and looks out at the docking bay outside while pondering

"Last I knew," Tink says to Worthington. "The Sao Paulo already has a Captain and a high ranking diplomatic attach." She smiles and greets him with a hug. "How are you, James?" To T'Shaav she says, "Yes, I'd be happy to."

Worthington nodds and smiles. "That is true. One only knows what we will see, what civilizations we will encounter, and what we will discover. I hope it is a humbling and gratifying experience for all of us," he says.

Kadn asks, "Humbling, in what way?"

T'Shaav regards the young commander, wanting to hear that answer, herself.

Ki'Vek says to Hauser, "Should fortune she call me to serve in such a role, then I will do so. Until then, I waste little time dreaming about the future."

Shulon's antennae curl towards Sawyer, "Not as many as some, like yourself, but yes. It was my first non-undercover assignment in a very long time."

"I just miss my room here, that's all" LePage says. "That and I suppose the start of my career"

Worthington provides one. "Here at home, we know roughly where we stand, from the political machinations of foreign governments, to the species that inhabit this region of space, to all sorts of spacial and temporal anomalies. When we categorize new life, see new wonders, even terrors, and come across things we have yet to comprehend, it is truly humbling, a constant reminder that despite all our knowledge, all our scientific advances, and all our technology, there is still a lot to the universe that we do not know, and we should never assume otherwise."

Sawyer grins at Shulon. "I just bet. I remember when we met, too. Bet it's still classified as hell. I thought T'Shaav was gonna rupture a blood vessel."

"Logically," T'Shaav notes, "if you bear that assumption in mind to start with, there will be no need for pride or hubris to be humbled. Assuming I understand such things."

Tink lets out a long sigh. "Aww, our little Jimmy is growing up so fast, isn't he?" she flutters her eyes at Biran and laughs.

Worthington chuckles at the diplomat's joke. "It's exciting too," he says. "It is good to have reminders though from time to time of our infalability and our lack of knowledge. It's healthy for a society as a whole to be reminded of these things. It makes us better people." He turns to Kadn. "On a technical note, speaking of Federation technology, aside from our type 28 shuttle and slipstream auxiliaries, is there any long-range communication plan to enable us to maintain some level of contact with Command?" he queries.

Temple walks over to a table with snacks displayed and he starts to place a few snacks on a plate and looks around

Shulon smiles at Sawyer, "At least one of us remembers the details."

"Sounds like the less I know, the better" LePage comments to the two

T'Shaav does not give Worthington's comment a response beyond a slowly ascending eyebrow. Seeing that Kadn is soon to be engaged in engineering details, the Vulcan leaves the big Bajoran to fend for himself. "I have not been able to congratulate you personally upon your promotion, Captain," she says to Svetzvani.

Kadn grins at Tink and gives her a squeeze. To Worth, "It depends how far you end up going." He asks, "Do you know where you are going?"

Ryu walks over to Worthington's group and listens in and sips her drink

Svetzvani is interested to hear the answer to that question as well.

Sawyer grins. "Yeah, I ain't gonna forget that one." he turns to LePage. "So, you're an O-4 now. Welcome to the club, son."

Worthington smiles to tink and responds to the bajoran. "No idea sir, but as we're conducting deep space exploration, far beyond our 1000 light year comms range I'd wager," he replies. "I don't know specifically where we're going yet. I believe captain Shulon may, but I do not."

"Don't remind me, please" LePage says to Sawyer. "I'm just a Chief, that's it and that's all"

Ki'Vek adds to Hauser, "Please excuse me. There's someone I wish to speak with." She breaks off the conversation and makes her way over to Temple. "Commander," she says with a small bow. "It is good to see you again, Sir. You are well, I trust."

Hauser studies the sections of the ship visible out the windows. Eventually, she leaves folks to it and makes a quiet exit.

Shulon's antennae curl towards LePage, "Yes, congratulations. Maybe the last one, but if you are happy as the chief engineer, then no more are needed." He smiles.

Temple smiles as he See's Ki'Vek approaching and he responds "I'm doing well Commander, congratulations on the promotion and your new position on the Sao paulo, you looking forward to heading out into the deep unknown for some exploration?"

"I expect it will be a worthy challenge," replies the Selay. "Our past similar experiences they certain suggest so. And you, Sir? Are you enjoying your current assignment?"

Sawyer grins. "What if he wants to take over fleet engineering and build new boats. Or maybe that'll be Jessica some day."

LePage tilts his head and glass. "Not a bad thought, but that seems like a lot of nonsense to go through to get there when I could retire fat dumb and happy on some planet somewhere"

Temple nods and says "Being Commanding officer of a Engineering Corps Vessel has its moments and challenges, mind you it involves more paperwork but it helps to have a good first officer to delegate some of the paperwork to" he smiles

Ki'Vek nods once to Temple. "Your vessel she has a peculiar profile. How does she handle? Is she very maneuverable?"

Kadn says, "The communication buoys have been buggy for decades, but ideally they are what you would need. The problem is, a meteor shower, a solar flare, or any of a number of spatial anomalies could take one out in the middle somewhere, and the whole link goes down."

Temple nods and says "She's set up to be primary a repair vessel with its own mobile drydock but if ts called upon to be in battle she could manuever well and give a good fight if need be to protect any ships that are using the dry dock."

Shulon chuckles, "I'm not sure about the fat and dumb part, but happy and retired sounds nice."

Worthington nodds. "I've heard of more drastic and also time delayed forms of communication. Didn't Voyager develop some sort of hyper subspace array that allowed them to send messages in bursts back to Spacedock," he asks.

"The idea right now is staring a brewery or a distillery... Maybe on Bajor?" LePage says to himself. "Does Andoria have any interesting plants?" he asks of Shulon

Ryu ponders and says "We could shield the bouys but that would possible drain their power quicker and they would have to recharge the power cell quickly"

Shulon asks, "Have you never had Andorian Ale? I have a couple bottles on the Sao, one of these days we'll have dinner with the senior officers, and crack a few open." He grins, "Best served ice cold of course, and it goes down smooth."

"I vaguely remember something blue about a week out from graduation..." LePage chuckles. "I dunno, just looking to make my own horrid concoction"

"I see," Ki'Vek says. "And is she capable of a trip into deep space? I wonder whether your services they may be called upon should we need them during our upcoming mission."

Worthington considers, listening for that response.

Temple hmms and ponders and says "Thats an interesting question, one that Admiral kadn might be best to answer, The Tucker does have a slipstream drive so I would assume she is capable of travelling into deep space"

Kadn smiles at the scientist and the tactical officer, "Minoring in engineering in your spare time?" he shakes his head, "There have been few deep space missions, so the technology to communicate consistently has been low on the list." He adds with a smile, "There is something to be said for being out there alone as well. No longer reliant on those at home to make some of your decisions for you, and of course, not be able to call for help for every little thing."

Ki'Vek glances toward the Admiral in question. "Quite so," she agrees.

"Perhaps I will." She offers another shallow bow. "If you will excuse me, Sir. There are still others with which I wish to visit while I have the opportunity."

Ryu shakes her head and says "I just wondered if it was possible to equip bouys with a shield system, but I guessed the power required to operate teh shield system would negative the communications range making the bouy useless"

Worthington nodds. "I was just thinking of any ways that important news could be shared," he replies. "How did Pathfinder communicate important discoveries from the delta quadrant?"

Temple nods and says "Go ahead commander, good luck for your next mission" he sips his drink

"Sir," Ki'Vek says to Temple, then moves on.

"There are only a few plants on Andoria." Chill says to LePage, "Few produce anything worthwhile to ferment. It is a harsh world, one I haven't set foot on in far too long."

"I thought we were discussing real time communication." Kadn replies, "There are slower, long range forms available. But the delay is proportionate to the distance. Suitable for sending reports, if you don't want a reponse until the next month."

Worthington shakes his head. "Not real time," he replies. "Just communication, a way that works that is at least somewhat reliable."

"Hmm... noted" The Engineer nods

Ryu ponders and says "Didn't Voyager use a spacial anomoly to send messages to Starfleet when they were trapped in the Delta Quadrant?"

Shulon smiles, "Enjoy the break, Gordon. I'll see you back aboard." He makes his way over to Worthington, "Don't stay up all night kids." He smiles, "It is good to see you all, Admiral, Captain." singling out Kadn and Tink. He says to Worth, "Give everyone the night, we'll get back to work tomorrow." With that, he is off.

Worthington watches after his captain as he leaves, and nodds to ryu.

LePage finishes off his drink and walks over to Worth, poking him lightly.

Kadn nods to LePage, "Lieutenant Commander, how are you?"

"Alive, well and burning through my workorders as fast as I can" LePage nods.

Worthington smiles. "A lot of work orders for a ship this size tis true," he adds.

Kadn asks, "How is the ship looking? Any mission stopping issues that Utopia should know about?"

LePage shakes his head. "Nothing we can't handle internally, no" LePage says

Kadn nods and smiles, "Good to hear."

Worthington nodds. "Indeed," he replies.

"Commander Worthington, could I ask you something?" LePage says, walking over to the window

Worthington nodds. "Sure thing," he replies. "And you can always call me James when we're off duty."

"Okay, James, I need help with a heist" LePage says

Worthington almost laughs. "You're joking, right?" he asks.

"No. Something got left behind after I left for Buran and it hasn't made it over to the Paulo yet" LePage says.

Worthington considers. "Would that something be a certain set of, equipment, you kept in your quarters?" he asks.

"Mmmmight be yes" LePage nods.

Worthington grins. "Good thing you don't play poker. You're pretty easy to read," he says with a chuckle.

"Yes well, it's probably best we remove said equipment" LePage chuckles

Worthington considers, thinking. "Such equipment, left unattended, could pose an issue for admiral Kemper," he replies.

"See, beneficial to the both of us" LePage nods.

Worthington nodds. "Though, have you considered simply asking admiral Kemper if you could reclaim some personal effects?" he asks.

"Seems kinda simple... that's not how we do things around here" LePage shakes his head.

Worthington considers. "There is a matter of beaming things off someone's ship, or bypassing security locks to access quarters though. If you have permission, it's cut and dry. If not, you get your ass called out and another letter in your jacket. I would know," he replies.

"Oh that is true" LePage nods. "Hmm..."

Worthington nodds. "Just tell the admiral you accidentally left something in your quarters when you were transfered, and you'd like to collect it," he replies.

"You've gone soft after that third letter... What happened to our shennanigans?" LePage chuckles.

Worthington laughs. "I've also been promoted," he replies. "Is it only 3 letters? Still, that's 3 too many."

"True true, very true" LePage nods. "Guess I'll take it up through legal channels"

Worthington nodds. "Enjoy the party and the night off," he replies. "Good luck getting your stuff." He heads off.

Kellen steps out of whichever discrete corner he had been observing the ceremony from, having not bothered with a uniform even though he probably should have.

The conversation near Kadn and Tink has finally died down. "It is good to see young officers engaged, but sometimes it is nice to get a break." Kadn remarks with a smile.

Kellen nods in greeting to Kadn and Tink, "Admiral, Captain."

Kadn smiles at Coil, "Good to see you. I hear you are on leave? Keeping out of trouble, or making it?"

Kellen chuckles, "A little from column A and a little from column B, sir. Still trying to patch things up back at home, and addressing other things as well."

Kadn nods slowly at the mention of home, "For years this ship was home. But I get your meaning." He asks in a slightly muted voice, "Anything you need help with, that I am able, let me know."

"Hegh'ta could use some upgrades," Kellen says with a laugh. "Though I'll probably hit the Klingons up for those and see if there's a refit available, if my leave stretches long enough for it to make a difference."

Kadn hmms, "I thought we did a few upgrades to it back in the day, though even that was 16-17 years ago now. I know you did a cosmetic change as well, but I'm certain we replaced a few components. Though at present which ones are escaping me..."

Kellen nods and chuckles, "Call it spoiled by having had access to newer equipment. Hegh'ta is still a workhorse, but knowing she could be a little better is like a grain of sand in the boot."

Kadn smiles, "Sometimes older is better. Take the Endeavour, clearly I am a fan of the older styles, and one older than the Hegh'ta herself." He asks, "I think the Sao Paulo will be heading out exploring soon. Are you staying behind for that?"

Kellen shakes his head, "I'm still on leave and I have some things I need to address still." He grins, "Besides, knowing Admiralty, I've caused them enough headaches so they'll assign me somewhere other than Sao Paulo, like some research base on a cold moon out of comms range."

"Something secluded sounds nice." Kadn replies. "Well I am sure they will miss you. Last I heard most of the science department are fresh out of the academy. Which in itself is a good thing, and a nice change. Less officers ready to go to war..."

Kellen nods, "And more skills available than I can bring."

"Maybe so, but not the experience." Kadn replies. "So troubles at home, related to the Symbiosis Commission, or something more familial?"

Kellen chuckles, "Both, actually. My Mom, using her position on the Commission, was pushing to have a new Host for Coil after the difficulties you rescued me from."

"To which she was ultimately not successful." Kadn replies, "Thankfully. But, is that not behind you now?"

Kellen shrugs, "She influences policy for symbionts, especially in regards to Starfleet careers."

"That would be a loss, present company included." Kadn replies, "Something to be said for potentially centuries of experience."

Kellen nods, "It's a dangerous career, but none of us going into it blindly. But bureaucrats who haven't ever been in risk often ignore the fact that it's a dangerous universe out there."

Kadn asks, "Would it help or hinder if Starfleet put together some of the pros of a career?"

Kellen shakes his head, "She's hidebound. None of her past lives were ever off planet outside of very safe trips within Federation space and the other commissioners are the same.

"Then it is a good thing you're taking time out to look into it." Kadn replies, "I was never a fan of what sounds like a political problem."

Kellen shrugs, "Neither am I, at least not this life. Otherwise I'd just join the Commission and fix things from the inside."

"A proposition that is far easier said than done, I imagine." Kadn replies. "But I wish you luck in however you tackle it. It sounds like any sort of Starfleet intervention on your behalf may backfire as well. But, if you need it..."

Kellen nods, "Thank you, sir. I think I have it handled though. Hard to deny that my career was noteworthy with all of my medals."

Kadn smiles, "And yet you chose not to show them off on this occasion." He nods, "Hopefully that notoriety will help you now."

Kellen chuckles, "I didn't even think to look for my uniform when I came over."

"It was good speaking with you. Don't hesitate to call if you need assistance." Kadn says, "But I should continue to mingle, I too get heck for never leaving Utopia."
