Biography
James Worthington was born to Harold and Martha Worthington and raised as an only child in the city of London on Earth. Harold was a veteran of the Dominion war, having been one of many officers serving and fighting
aboard a galaxy class starship. When the Dominion and their allies attacked Starfleet headquarters, the sight of the devastation caused Harold to come to the conclusion that only a properly armed and militarized Starfleet would
be able to defend the Federation. The death, loss, and carnage of war instilled in Harold a bitterness and an almost militant attitude, and it was this that caused him to drive James to the edge of his limits, as though
drilling him for military service. The constant pressure was almost more than James could handle, but he perserveered and overcame the obstacles he faced. He pushed on however, and despite the relentless pressure he was under,
he managed to do well in his education. In what little free time he had from his studies, James was often seen playing Parrises squares. His father never objected. "It'll make you tough son," was all he had to say on the
matter. James applied to Starfleet Academy for several reasons, partially to get out from under his father, partly to live up to his family legacy, and partially because he believed that he should serve the Federation, and that
defending the Federation against any future enemies that could potentially devastate their worlds like the Dominion and Son'a was in his opinion the best form of service he could offer. James was accepted to Starfleet Academy
for the fall 2424 term, and set off to begin his career in Starfleet. He specialized in tactical and weapon systems, defensive technology, and battle tactics. James also learned how to pilot various craft, from shuttles to
galaxy class starships, and used his training in piloting to further his studies in battle tactics and tactical maneuvering. While at the academy, James was introduced to various political philosophies, including those that
pushed for a return to more scientifically oriented pursuit. He developed an interest in exploration, mainly because of the unknown factor in what one might find. He understood that space is vast and that knowledge of space
while extensive was nowhere near complete. To James, exploration meant risk, the chance for new knowledge to be learned, but also danger. With the Voyager's 7 year trip into the delta quadrant encountering races such as the
Kazon, Hirogen, Vedians, and the home space of the Borg Collective, the possibilities of unfriendly first contact, hostility, and threats to the safety of the Federation seemed verry real and present. He also understood that
those engaging in exploration mainly have scientific backgrounds, not backgrounds in security and defense. Knowing this, he decided to seek a posting on an exploratory ship, where he could identify possible threats to the
Federation on the fronteers, protect the ship and crew, and do his best to help the ship accomplish its mission. He was driven to this by the disappearance of the Antietam, and like others in Starfleet, was worried as to the
cause. He does not wish to find new enemies to fight, but he will seek to identify threats when they present themselves, mitigate threats to the ship and crew, and do his best to keep the ship intact so that it can continue its
mission. James graduated the academy in the summer of 2428. It was said by his instructors at the academy that cadet Worthington was motivated, fiercely loyal, and duty driven. Many of his friends in the academy would describe
him as overprotective and zellus depending upon the person you asked, but unwaveringly loyal to a fault. Those who knew him best at the academy said that they weren't sure if they could stand being around him, but they were
glad if he had their backs in a fight or a simulation. His goal in life is to protect and serve the Federation in whatever capacity he can, believing that the Federation must always be able to protect itself, and vowing to give
his life to its service.
