Description: The commanding officer holds ultimate responsibility for the ship and crew under his or her command. Appointed by Starfleet, the commanding officer is charged with the execution of all orders assigned to the ship. By Starfleet tradition, the commanding officer is referred to as Captain, regardless of rank.
Mission Advisor

Description: A mission advisor is assigned at the behest of Starfleet Command and may be assigned with or without prior consultation with the commanding officer. Typically, the mission advisor is a higher ranking officer with both subject matter expertise and experience, such as a former command officer skilled in the tactics of a specific foe or a diplomatic officer with prior experience in negotiations. In rare occasions, the mission advisor may be assigned to the ship for an extended period of time, but the role is often unfilled unless needed and assigned for a particular mission. Alternatively, the commanding officer may choose to fill the position with someone from within the existing roster who has expertise related to the current mission. The function of the mission advisor is to provide guidance and share insight that may be helpful in successfully accomplishing the mission at hand.
CO's Yeoman

Executive Officer

Description: The executive officer, sometimes referred to as the first officer or "Number One", is second-in-command. The executive officer is charged with implementing the orders issued by the commanding officer, personnel matters including signatory authority on performance reviews and interdepartmental transfers, management and allocation of resources, and advising the commanding officer. All departments, through their respective department heads, report to the executive officer.
Chief Flight Controller

Description: The chief flight controller is the ship's senior pilot. In essence, he or she is the manager of all logistics and functional processes aboard ship. Operations officers are also often rated in engineering and sciences due to the nature of their work.
Deputy Chief of Operations

Description: The deputy chief of operations is second-in-command of the operations department. Mission Operations Officer

Description: The flight deck operations officer is the officer-in-charge of all operations related to auxiliary craft aboard ship. This includes both in-flight operations as well as standard day-to-day operations, including scheduling maintenance and resource allocation. This officer is also responsible for the duty roster and performance evaluations of flight deck staff under his or her command.

Description: Flight operations officers are assigned to one of the auxiliary craft bays. They are responsible for supporting all flight deck operations, but they are not expected to be engineers or pilots themselves. Cargo Operations Officer

Description: The cargo operations officer is the officer-in-charge of all cargo facilities aboard the ship. In this role, he or she is responsible for managing the inventories of all cargo bays and storage facilities. This includes serving as signatory on the transfer of all goods and materials in and out of storage. The cargo operations officer is also responsible for the duty roster and performance evaluations of cargo deck officers under his or her command.
Cargo Deck Officer

Description: Cargo deck officers maintain inventory of all cargo bays and storage facilities aboard ship. From using automated inventory to conducting physical inventory, the storage, transfer, and maintenance of records related to cargo is the responsibility of these officers. Quartermaster

Description: The quartermaster is the officer-in-charge of all personal equipment aboard ship, save for firearms, ordnance, and medical supplies. From crew quarters to communicators, all equipment that is the property of Starfleet is maintained by the quartermaster. Although most equipment is easily replicated, the quartermaster is still charged with maintaining records of all Starfleet-issued property. The quartermaster also arranges for maintenance of Starfleet-issued property.
Engineering

Description: The chief engineer is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and proper functioning of all mechanical and technical aspects of the starship. Deputy Chief Engineer

Description: The deputy chief engineer assists the chief engineer in the management of the engineering department. He or she provides leadership for specific projects or general functions as assigned by the chief engineer. Senior Damage Control Officer

Description: The senior damage control officer is a senior officer within the engineering department. He or she is a generalist, expected to have strong working knowledge of all ship mechanics and technical functions. When the ship takes damage, this officer is responsible for the rapid deployment of damage control teams, managing orders from the bridge and chief engineer with knowledge of the skill sets of each team and each individual team member. This officer must be able to work well under the most difficult circumstances, and this officer must be able to balance the demands of working within a chain of command with the need to assess, determine a course of action, and often act independently in the absence of orders.
Damage Control Officer

Description: Damage control officers are engineering generalists who specialize in a wide range of mechanical and technical functions of the ship. Unlike systems engineers, who are often highly specialized, damage control officers are trained to perform rapid repairs in the most difficult of conditions. It is not uncommon for an officer who is interested in reaching the billets of chief engineer or deputy chief engineer to spend time in a damage control officer billet, as it is one of the best ways to receive training for and be exposed to almost all engineering functions aboard ship.
Senior Systems Engineer

Description: The senior systems engineer is the officer-in-charge of all the other systems engineers aboard ship. He or she has likely spent time as a systems engineer and has a strong affinity for diagnostics and managing resources. In this role, the senior systems engineer is responsible for providing engineers that operate the mechanical and technical aspects of the ship. He or she also maintains and sets priorities for routine maintenance of ship systems.
Computer Systems Specialist

Description: The propulsion systems specialist is a systems engineer who specializes in mechanics of the warp drive, impulse drive, and reaction control system thrusters. Diagnostics Engineer

Junior systems engineers may be training in a specialty area with the intent of one day transitioning into a specialist role, or they may remain a generalist intentionally, with a goal of moving directly into a diagnostics engineer or senior systems engineer position.
Transporter Chief

Description: The transporter chief is the individual in charge of operating the personnel transporter systems aboard ship and is a specialist in matter/energy molecular transportation. Although considered one of the safest ways to travel, because of the inherent danger involved, a transporter chief has been rigorously trained and tested in all aspects of the transporter construction, operation, maintenance, and repair.
Transporter Specialist

They are experts in matter/energy molecular transportation. Deputy Chief of Security & Tactical

Medical
Chief Medical Officer

Description: The chief medical officer is charged with the health and welfare of the ship's complement. In addition to being the ship's most senior practicing physician, he or she is in command of the medical department and its personnel. As a department head, this officer is charged with the duty roster for his or her department and is responsible for the performance of medical personnel under his or her command. The chief medical officer is also authorized to relieve any officer, even a superior, of duty if the officer is medically unfit for duty. While this billet does not require line officer status, many chief medical officers do choose to pursue the qualification. Line officer status is required to hold this billet at the rank of Commander.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer

Description: The deputy chief medical officer is a practicing physician who assists the chief medical officer in administration of the medical department. Although this officer does not carry the same authority as the chief medical officer, if the CMO becomes incapacitated or otherwise unable to perform his or her duties, the deputy chief medical officer is delegated the authority to relieve officers who are medically unfit for duty.
Medical Duty Officer

Description: Medical duty officers are practicing physician charged with maintaining the physical health of the ship's complement. Each medical ward aboard ship always has at least one medical officer on duty at all times.
Chief Nurse

Description: The chief nurse is responsible for supervising the care of all patients admitted to the ship-board medical facilities. He or she is also in charge of all subordinate nursing officers and medical technicians aboard.

Description: Nursing officers are the primary providers of patient care aboard ship, particularly for those who have been admitted to the ship's medical facility. Ship's Counselor

While this billet does not require line officer status, some choose to pursue the qualification. Line officer status is required to hold this billet at the rank of Commander.

Description: The squadron XO, assists the squadron commander in day to day administrative duties, allowing the commander to focus on tactical matters. The sqaudron XO is typically a pilot in the squadron, but can also be a weapons systems officer, or copilot.

Possible Ranks: Lieutenant Commander, Lieutenant, Lieutenant (jg), and Ensign
Line Officer Required: Yes
Description: A pilot is a member of a sqaudron or smaller unit, and can operate at least one type of vessel, be it a fighter, bomber, or other craft. All pilots in a squadron report to the Squadron XO.
Maintenance Engineer
Possible Ranks: Lieutenant Commander, Lieutenant, Lieutenant (jg), and Ensign
Line Officer Required: No
Description: The maintenance engineer is assigned to one or more spacecraft in the wing, and is responsible for all maintenance of the assigned vessel, but may enlist the aid of other deck hands and engineers if the task calls for it. The maintenance engineer and the pilot work closely together to ensure the assigned vessel operates at peak efficiency.
