Description
This youthful-looking Denobulan male has brown eyes and strands of wispy, straw-colored hair. His skin is a light tan hue with slight mottling common to his species. There is what looks to be a birth mark that vaguely resembles a crescent moon between two of his cranial ridges. His build is fairly average for a denobulan, though his time in Starfleet has given him a decent muscle tone.
Biography
Lexin (goes by Lex) was born on Denobula to Bokku and Relna. He is the youngest of three. His two brothers, Ylinx and Phrok are two and four years his senior. Lex was born during a time of hardship due to his father's uncommon knack for brutal honesty, and as some would say, rudeness.
Bokku was a physics professor who was known by his students for his perfectionism, rigidity, harshness, and strict adherence to the rules. His expectations were unattainable by all but the brightest of his students, and because of this, the university transitioned him from teaching to research.
When Bokku couldn't keep it together, even amidst his hand-picked team, the university let him go. His work from then up until soon before Lex was born was essentially whatever he could find.
Relna was suffering with a strange illness even before her pregnancy. This left her bed-bound and unable to care for herself. Bokku had become her sole carer, causing discord between himself and his other wives, who distanced themselves as much as they could from him.
The village the family lived in was small, and nestled in the foothills of a mountain range. Even thriving societies have a subsect of the populace who are misfortunate and downcast. This village was for just such a group.
Bokku had very little to give his children, ill-equipped as he was to care for his ailing wife. It was up to Ylinx and Phrok - young as they were - to watch and care for their baby brother.
It took several years, but doctors eventually found a cure for Relna's protracted illness. Since that time, she's made a full recovery and is doing well as a professor of Xenobiology. Lex inherited her kindness, compassion and gentleness, and, like his mother, he never understood why his father was so mean.
He grew up with admiration and respect for medical professionals. He knew that their care had kept his mother alive until a cure could be found. In the back of his mind, the idea had been planted. Through his schooling, it germinated and began to grow.
His uneasy relationship with his father, and to a lesser extent, his brothers, caused him to wish to leave Denobula. He had the opportunity to apply to Starfleet Medical, and grasped it as a drowning man might a log floating down the river.
His mother wasn't happy about this, but she could see that it was what he wanted, and she supported him. She could not feel the same way about her husband as Lex did. After all, his attendance kept her as well as could be expected. She did know that Bokku was a difficult man, and, that her two elder sons tended to look up to him, even if they didn't display their father's degree of brashness. Lex had to make his own way, and though it pained her to let him go, she didn't stand in his way.
One might think that Lexin would choose to be a doctor. While he has never put that outside the realm of possibility, in the moment, he wanted to be a nurse. The doctors found a cure for his mother, but the nurses provided reliable, steady, compassionate care that he wanted to emulate.
He learned a lot in his time at the Academy. An exhilarating experience that his mind still likes to return to. He learned how to socialize, how to find his own fun while caught up in the middle of a group of students who liked to drink and party - something that never interested him. He even learned a bit about an Earth game called Baseball.
Lex threw himself into his training. Somewhere deep inside of him, the need to prove himself to his over-achieving father bubbled up to the surface from time to time. He did, after all, love the man, even if he didn't understand his personality. If there was a chance that he could win his father over, maybe his brothers would soften their stance towards him as well. He knew they all cared, in their own way.
Lexin was a model student, which caused him a few problems with his classmates. One incident of note lead him to lose a group of friends. Someone had been in the mess hall repairing a replicator when they left, presumably to retrieve tools or parts. Having left the access panel open, an excellent opportunity presented itself to Lex's classmate Julio Martinez.
Julio knew his way around computer systems, and now, having gained access through the officer's folly, he began programming the replicator to produce alcoholic beverages. The mess hall was quiet, so, as Lex passed by, he was surprised to see his friend there. He walked in, unnoticed. Julio was distracted enough not to notice Lex, who stopped and watched.
He might have said something, but he wanted to see what Julio was doing. When it became evident that he was tampering where he ought not to be, Lex left wordlessly. He wasn't one for confrontation. He intercepted the engineering officer on his way back and told him what his friend was doing, and the officer busted Mr. Martinez.
Lex's philosophy is that everyone serving in Starfleet should be working for the good of the Federation. He didn't, and mostly still doesn't understand that too much honesty can be a bad thing. Shades of gray aren't something he knows how to deal with, though he was aware that he made a faux pa, he simply couldn't reconcile his obligation to his friend with that of his obligation to Starfleet.
Lexin is hard-working, caring, compassionate, and honest. He hopes to put the traits he inherited from his mother to good use in helping others in their time of need. He dislikes deceit, treachery and manipulative behavior. He is open, friendly, and has even grown to accept a certain amount of physical contact from others - something that other Denobulans might struggle with.
Here he stands, a graduate with a nursing degree, awaiting his next assignment. He wonders how the people he ends up with will help shape his life, and how, maybe, he will shape theirs.
