Biography

Born on Betazed, Madhadaa was the 3rd child and first son of his parents. He hadn't been expected as his parents were happy raising his older sisters, but his mother hit 'the Phase' and next you know, he's on the way. He had a normal upbringing, becoming telepathic right on time, enjoying a happy life and nothing made him stand out from the rest of his fellow Betazoids. His telepathic skills tested out slightly above average, but nothing like that of his oldest sister's abilities, who had been working as a Counselor within Starfleet since before he was born. His middle sister had chosen to go to the University of Betazed, though ended up getting married instead of pursuing a career.

In his mid teens, his class went on an extended trip to Earth. The experience of touring various places on Earth was interesting, though not without mishap due to putting a bunch of young honest telepaths among a bunch of Terrans. A lot of his classmates found the lack of open honesty troubling, but Madhadaa was one of the those who could accept that other races have different viewpoints. The most interesting experience of the whole trip for Madhadaa was not the tour of Earth, but the trip to and from Earth where there were fewer 'voices' around him and the view of the stars was spectacular. This led him to follow in his sister's footsteps and join Starfleet, though not as a Counselor.

Originally Madhadaa was going to go into the Command path, yet on an early shuttlecraft training mission, the 'silence' of just the 4 minds around hit him and the sensation was addictive where a lot of Betazoids would find it frightening. He changed over to the Helm path to continue to learn how to fly small craft, where his average height and weight, along with his fast reflexes, had him becoming a fighter pilot which allowed him to combine the Command path with Helm. Also while at the Academy, he started to work out almost fanatically, learning physical fitness skills that further improved his reflexes and strength, doing everything he could to ensure that flying fast one man fighters remained in his future for as long as possible.

One of his Terran classmates was a fan of Lewis Carroll and used to tease him about how his name sounded so much like Mad Hatter. This was further reinforced when it was discovered that after converting his birthday to Earth standard, he was born on the same day as Lewis Caroll. So eventually the nickname stuck, making 'Mad Hatter' his callsign (or Hatter to his friends). Curious about this Lewis Carroll, Madhadaa did take the time to read 'Alice in Wonderland' though he could not figure out why the Mad Hatter behaved as he did and was considered mad not being familiar with that part of Terran history and the use of mercury by hatmakers.

Upon graduating from the Academy, Madhadaa applied to join a ship based fighter wing even though his Advisors warned him that most fighter pilots start out in bases until they've been 'seasoned'. His secondary was that as a helmsman, since he enjoys being out among the stars and not sitting on dirt or in orbit over a planet.
