Biography

First thing to observe is that the Aboriginal are a spiritual people, families extend through and passed generations and tribes. Leaving home was the hardest thing for Jimeba to do. His name means 'Laughing Star' and his last name 'Anewan' indicates his tribe near Lake Erye in Southern Australia. Being fairly close to the coast, his father 'Cobar' meaning burnt earth was a fisherman and his mother 'Alinga' meaning 'Sun'. She is a teacher of language and fluent in twenty indigenous dialects as well as five languages and his sister 'Marlee' traditionally meaning 'Swan'. Born on November 11, 2409 and being the older of two children to his family, he was expected to be a leader of his family and his tribe. In all actuality with the family structure you could say that he is the oldest of somewhere around fifteen or so, he loses count. To show his qualities he left vowing to return to take on the mantle of his ancestors and those before them and those before them.

Jiemba was a kid who was instilled with a sense of patience and honor, always cool headed and crafty. Coming from the lands of Australia, Starfleet chose the area for prisons for a reason, he has a bit of survival learning in him. His early educating was indeed of the spiritual type but soon he was indoctrinated into the education system in Australia. He was noted for his hard work and not so much for his brilliance. His EQ was always higher than his IQ.

His young life was wrought with trying to mix his native upbringings with mainstream ideals leading him to develop his ability to improve to be able to navigate through both worlds. His family was by no means unaware of this dichotomy but for a young man it was sometimes and somewhat confusing.

Jiemba excelled at various sports with swimming and surfing being his favorites, competing in junior surfing competitions frequently. Well liked by most he created a global friend network through competitions and was well travelled.

Choosing Starfleet was something of a suggestion from his parents. His goals in life were not to travel space and accrue fame and glory. His focus was to stay home with his tribe and eventually become an elder to effect change locally. His father thought different, so he applied to the academy. His good ear for language and ability to communicate were things that the academy enjoyed about him along with his ability to improvise. However Jiemba was more interested in learning a wide range of skills in Operations thinking that they would be more useful for his eventual return to home.

His years at the academy were spent mostly learning logistics and movements and supplying. The first year was of course fraught with a bit of home sickness. He missed the lake and the desert and visited as much as possible, but as he settled in and begin to understand the mission and the organization he was becoming a part of gave him another sense of family, teamwork and tradition passing from generation to generation. Graduating in the middle of his class he was known for his work ethic, intuitiveness and an acute understanding of Hierarchy, if not perhaps for making jokes at very strange moments. Definitely traits that would help in him in Starfleet.

Out of the Academy and the news on the Phoenix spoke to Jiemba's heart strings. No person or people should be away from their family and every person should have closure with all. He chose to volunteer for this mission directly because he put himself in the position of each person's family of the USS Antietam.
