Botanical Lab <USS Phoenix NX-170100>
The labs on the Phoenix, both engineering and scientific, have similar design queues to one another, but each is configured for a slightly different purpose. This particular lab is configured for the care and development of plants that grow in soil, most notably those in the arboretum. There are several work stations as well as purpose-built enclosures for isolating certain plants from one another, and to provide them with specific light, soil, and watering needs. Here too, modifications and improvements to the nutrients delivered to the various plants are also developed. A black, glossy panelling runs along the bulkheads at shoulder height near the entry door, allowing access to the LCARS interface, and tracers set into the bulkheads close to the ceiling indicate the current alert status.

You tap your commbadge and speak into it.
[Svetzvani's Commbadge] Sending request for communication to Lieutenant (jg) Chandler.
[Svetzvani's Commbadge] Communications channel to Lieutenant (jg) Chandler open - audio only.

[Svetzvani's Commbadge] Chandler says, "Chandler here."

You say, "Hey Sybil, it's Tink. Are you busy?"

[Svetzvani's Commbadge] Chandler perks up a bit more. "Oh hey! No I'm good. What's up?"

"I'm just getting some things done in the botanical lab," Tink says. "I wondered if you wanted to hang out with me for a bit while I get my hands dirty."

[Svetzvani's Commbadge] Chandler chuckles a bit. "Sure. Let me pull on some clothes and I'll be right over."

Svetzvani smiles. "Great! I'll see you soon."

[Svetzvani's Commbadge] Connection to Chandler terminated.

Svetzvani hums to herself as she trims a small green plant with yellow and orange buds on it. She has a pair of sheers in her hand which she uses to carefully select the bits she wants to clip.

Sybil makes her way into the lab, looking around a bit. "Huh." Chuckling she turns and finally spots who she was looking for. "Hey hey. Is it bad I've never been in here.....?"

Svetzvani turns to look over at the new voice and smiles. "Hey! Good to see you," she says, setting down the scheers and greeting her friend with her usual hug and kiss. Looking her over she adds, "I'm glad I caught you off duty. I didn't look at the duty roster. What are you up to today?" She retrieves her sheers and goes back to clipping the plant.

Sybil smiles as she returns that hug and kiss, exhaling a bit. "Yeah I needed a break and I'm sure Kadn is glad I am." Licking her lips she then looks around. "Not much...." It was obvious she was in a really good mood. "Might hit up my club sim later...."

Svetzvani collects some trimmings into a little basket and inspects the plant closely, then moves on to the next one. "Yeah, you've needed to take a break for a while," she agrees, giving Sybil a smile. "It seems like it's doing you some good. I haven't seen you this relaxed since... well... the holodeck."

Sybil chuckles a bit as she nods. "I feel that we like....well I've been pushing." Taking a deep breath she then smiles a bit more. "Yeah well...Coil and I actually got to spend time together...." Clearing her throat she actually blushes a bit. "And...I talked to...David....he uh....brought it up first actually."

This stops Tink in her tracks. She spins around and sets down the clippers. "What ap..." Abruptly she remembers herself and glances around to be sure there's no one else near enough to overhere. She steps closer and leans in to speak in a near whisper. "What happened?" she asks, blue eyes wide.

Sybil chuckles a bit. "Well I pulled him aside to talk about this XO of the Antietam....I was going to leave it be. When I had introduced myself to everyone he didn't even flinch at my name. So I just figured whatever." A shrug as she speaks softly. "As soon as we got alone he asked me how my mom was and I just....I almost lost it."

Svetzvani covers her mouth with a hand. "You're kidding?"" she asks with mild disbelief. "How... how are you now? You seem kinda... relieved?"

Sybil sighs a bit. "Well....I'm okay? I feel a lot better now? He told me that...." A beat. "He told me that mom and him thought it was best he wasn't around...because of his job and that'd he be gone months or even years at a time." Rubbing the back of her neck she nods. "But then he asked how I got out here so I told him. But then he asked what exactly Kemper told him....and I simply said enough to keep my mouth shut. That's when he told me their decision and that he didn't do it to hurt me....."

Svetzvani blinks. "So... your mom knew and was part of the decision as well?" she asks.

Sybil shrugs. "Yeah. I guess it makes sense though. He never bad mouthed him....she still loves him....but she just never liked Starfleet. I think it's....now that I think of it....because of his job taking him...." Sighing she runs her hands on her face. "And I know he still gives a shit. He even was wondering if mom was with someone....he asked if I had siblings. I told him that nope....she still essentially pines after him."

Svetzvani nods thoughtfully, then turns back to the plants and picks up her clippers. "So, will you two try to have a familial relationship now?" she asks.

Sybil chuckles a bit. "I don't know about all that. I gave him a hug at the end and seemed....odd about it. I think I caught him off guard. But...." A beat. "...when I said I'd stay out of his way he told me not to avoid him because he wants to talk more. Obviously not out in public but...yeah."

Svetzvani picks up the basket of clippings and hands it to Sybil. "Here, hold this please," she says, then picks up another basket already full of clippings and leads the way a few meters down the row of plants. "Have you told Kellen about this yet?" she asks.

Sybil takes the bascket and then smiles a bit. "Sure." Looking over to the plants she slowly starts to follow Tink. "Uh....no. I was going to just...say something last night but we got distracted. When I said I was going to hang out with David again instead if he wanted to go work like he's has been...he stared at me and asked who the heck was David. I just...." A shrug. "I don't want to blow my dad's cover for...whatever it is."

Svetzvani frowns with concern. "That could be damaging to your relationship if Kellen gets the wrong idea," she says. Putting down the basket in her hands, she begins clipping another plant and dropping the trimmings into the basket that Sybil is holding. "But I can see what you mean about blowing David's cover. Do you have a plan on how you might deal with that little predicament?"

"Well if he trusts me as much as he says he does...then we'll be fine. Hell he doesn't even seem to care that Tom apparently has a crush on me...." Shrugging a bit Sybil then licks her lips. "Only time I saw him ever care is when that Ferengi actually touched me...." She then leans her head back a bit. "If he can't remember that the guy saying he was my dad looks just like David....I don't know what to tell him. I may just....say that's the guy from the vid but his name is different. Or....just that I've been assigned to work with him to sort all this crap out." Then she laughs a bit. "I did tell David that I'd introduce him to my husband....we'll see how that goes...not sure if I should."

Svetzvani clips a particularly stubborn bulb and it pops off, bouncing off of her nose. She picks it up and drops it in Sybil's basket with a smirk. "Can I make a suggestion?" she asks. I don't want to get too involved in your family life without invitation, but..." She shrugs one shoulder.

Sybil nods slowly. "Go for it. Advice can't hurt....."

"Well, I can think of two other possibilities," Tink replies. She fols up her clippers and tucks them away. "Or maybe they're actually the same suggestion, but taken in two different directions. You could ask the Captain, or David, about the feasability of telling Kellen at least part of the story... the part that's important to your family life. You may find n easy out there. If not, then you can start trying to come up with another way to deal with the situation without blowing any cover. No sense in worrying about the latter before you've attempted the former."

Sybil nods slowly then sighs. "Well Kellen knows he was on the ship....he's seen the video. But...I didn't go into anything else after that." A beat. "I'll....see what I can do....talk to the Captain or David and see...."

"Oh! I didn't realize that Kellen has seen the video," Tink exclaims. "Well, that could make things much easier. If he's seen the video and understands who the man in it is, simply introducing the two should clear up all the questions."

Sybil chuckles a bit then. "He knows the guy in the video is claiming to be my dad....and he knows I was looking for my dad prior to me seeing that video. It's just a matter of....you know....not screwing my dad." Taking a deep breath she then frowns. "I just don't get it though. Why is he undercover? Like...what part of security is that where you have to be undercover on one of our ships?"

Svetzvani shakes her head. "I have no idea," she admits. "That's beyond my experience, though I'm sure there must be a good explanation. It is a little worrisome though. It kinda makes you wonder if we have people on our own crew with a similar assignment."

Sybil licks her lips then nods. "It makes me wonder what has them worried that they have to do that." Sighing a bit she pinches the bridge of her nose in thought than nods. "But this XO of the Antietam has me worried. When I mention the Captain somehow he's always brought up. This...Commander Riordan...."

"Oh?" Tink asks, her brows scrunching together. "What do you mean?"

Sybil shaking her head. "Some of the crew thinks he had something to do with the Captain disappearing. Or that he told people not to bring it up." A beat. "I don't know...I'd hate to think he was in on it but it's disconcerting."

Svetzvani frowns again, then after a few moments thought she picks up her basket and nods for Sybil to walk with her. "That /is/ troubling," she agrees. "It also sounds like something we should probably have a staff meeting about."

Sybil nods a bit. "Yeah. I just....something isn't right. Just like when I was doing some digging....no one mentions the captain missing except for three messages. Mine....another guy talking as if Captain Sheridan was never there....and someone just barely making a reference....."

Svetzvani leads Sybil over to an area where the clippings can be recycled. She sets down her own basket, then takes the one from Sybil. "Yeah, we need to figure that part out. It's not normal for an entire crew to just be... uncaring about their Captain and his or her fate."

Sybil nods as she smiles. "Yeah....we need to figure it out." Setting the basket down she gives her friend a hug then exhales as she waves. "I should head out though. I"ll catch you laters."
