Kuvas Camp <Carorkon III>
Buried deep in the desert, far away from the nearest settlement, is a collection of tents and other portable structures, and the home of one of the largest groups of Kuvassians on the planet.
The camp is clearly designed to be dismantled and moved on short notice. Likely a result of the human-led raiding parties that seek out the few Kuvassians who have escaped being enslaved.

Kuvassians of all ages and walks of life are gathered in the open area. Most are ambulatory, but some are sprawled out on blankets on the ground or being helped by their fellows toward the larger group. Ki'Vek is off to one side, half watching the goings-on and half watching the horizon. She turns this way and that, apparently not entirely comfortable with the security of the gathering.

Ki'Vek can hear the sounds of transporter materialization. When she takes a look, it's just Nolan, looking around and getting his bearings. He sees Ki'Vek and makes for the Selay, nodding his antennae in greeting. "Commander" he says

Ki'Vek directs one of her customary deep nods in ch'Vyran's direction. "Doctor," she greets. "You've come at a good time." She gestures with one leathery hand to a nearby Kuvassian with an obvious broken limb, the bone protruding from a break in the skin. "Injured in a fall on her way here, accompanying a family member with exposure burns."

Nolan grimaces a little, though trying to keep his expression out of view of his potential patient. "I see..." Nolan nods and pulls a standard hydration pack out of his kit. "Whenever the last time you hydrated was, hydrate again... Too hot out here, even for you Commander" he tosses the pack to Ki'Vek. "Anewan's orders, my directive too" the hybrid states before approaching the Kuvassian with the broken limb slowly, looking for permission to approach

Ki'Vek catches the hydration pack and makes no argument, opening it up and beginning to drink. The other Kuvassians surrounding the broken one see the Starfleet doctor moving in their direction and they motion him impatiently forward. "Please help us," one of them says pleadingly. Ki'Vek finishes the pack and follows along behind the Doctor.

Seeing that the local populace isn't hostile to his presence, Nolan speeds up his movement, approaching his patient. He doesn't bother with the tricorder, the symptoms painfully obvious. He slowly reaches under the cradle the busted arm, gently lifting it where he can take a look. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it's going to hurt a little more" he sooths his patient as he inspects the wound.

The injured Kuvassian breathes heavily, but fights to maintain her dignity. She winces at the Doctor's touch but doesn't pull away or resist. Nearby, Ki'Vek coils up and settles in to watch the events as they unfold. She continues glancing around at the horizon for trouble, though. "Will she lose her arm?" asks one of the other Kuvassians.

Nolan takes a peek. "No... No I don't think so... But you're going to want to kill me by the time I'm done..." Nolan pulls out a little plastic block, offering it to the injured Kuva. "You'll want this, it's a bite block. Put this in your mouth a bite down as hard as you can" the Doctor says, following that with a hyper-dermal applicator, loading it with an anti-septic solution. "This is gonna sting a bit, okay?" he says before spraying some of the green liquid on the exposed wound, which immediately starts to bubble up with impurities and dirt

The injured Kuvassian twitches, but fights against the pain. She bites down on the block and looks at ch'Vyran with fear in her eyes. She still hasn't made a sound beyond her heavy breathing. Soft words are exchanged between her fellows and they seem to be preparing for something horrible. The Selay stops looking around and watches the procedure intently.

Nolan locks eyes with the Kuvassian. "I'm going to reset your bone into place here and fuse your wound. This is where it's gonna hurt the most dear" he says softly. "It'll be over in just a moment. Ready?" He asks. Once he's got some kind of resolve from his patient, he uses that partial-Andorian strength to take and pull one part of the broken arm from the other, letting the bone drop back into place from whence it came. He allows it to set against itself before going in with more disinfectant followed by a hit of another liquid, this one milky white. He works quickly before pulling the torn flesh back into place and applying the auto suture to the arm.

There's finally a vocal response from the Kuvassian as the bone is being set. A gasp, then grunt of pain that subsides into a low, but very brief moan. Her head falls to the side and her eyes close, the block falling from between her teeth. She goes completely limp, unconscious. Ki'Vek stiffens with concern. "Is she alright, Doctor?" she asks urgently.

Nolan doesn't rush to anything else, finishing his operation with the autosuture before grabbing his medical tricorder with the appropriate urgency. After a quick scan, Nolan sighs. "Yes, she's fine. She's got a lot of adrenaline surging through her and her body couldn't handle the strain, but her heart is certainly still beating" the Hybrid says, gently removing the bite block.

Ki'Vek nods, but the other Kuvassians seem a little uncertain. Still, they make no move to prevent the treatment or resist in any way. "No internal damage?" Ki'Vek asks next.

"I've taken care to clean the wound" Nolan states. "It thankfully doesn't seem to have taken place long enough ago for tissue necrosis to set in, so she ought be fine if not sore for half a month or so. The bone will knit together nicely I think

Ki'Vek seems to remember herself and goes back to watching the horizon for threats. The Kuvassians talk quickly but quietly amongst themselves. while the Starfleet Doctor continues to work. "This patient she is the most serious one we have at present, as far as I know," says the Selay without looking back at ch'Vyran. "But there are quite a few other minor cases here."

"The one with exposure burns, you mentioned was a family member?" Nolan asks. "Where are they, I can see them next and release her to their custody if possible"

One of the Kuvassians standing over the injured one steps forward. "I... She was coming with me," he says hesitantly. "She was showing me the way." He turns to face away and lowers his head. Severe sunburn is clearly present on the back of his neck and auditory organs. Blistered skin, some of it broken, covers the affected area.

Nolan nods and and directs the Kuvassian over to where he can take a look. "How did she break her arm?" the Doctor asks, inspecting the back of the Kuvassian's neck. "MMh... You've been on the move for a while haven't you?"

"There's a small canyon over there," the Kuvassian responds, one hand waving vaguely to indicate the direction. "She slipped and fell over the edge, but caught herself before falling all the way in. I... I grabbed her arm to pull her up and... I was scared. I was afraid she would fall and... I jerked her up and her arm..." He begins to sob quietly, unable to finish the details of the story.

Nolan nods, understandingly, as he begins to apply a salve to the Kuvasian's neck. The blisters seem to gently open up and deflate under the influence of the spread paste. "And she's here. You made sure of that. I'll take partial chances of survival over certain doom any day and I won't condemn you for making the same choice. That must have been hard. It's all over now"

The Kuvassian nods once and tries to compose himself. He closes his eyes and submits to the Doctor's treatment of his burns, now quieting down.

Nolan works the salve in with his thumbs, working up to the auditory organs. "Tell me if this hurts. Shouldn't. Should feel nice and cool for you"

The Kuvassian nods again and swallows hard. "Feels good," he says weakly. "Like meriph root salve, but without the burn."

"Meriph root salve?" Nolan asks. "I'll have to take a sample before I go. I always like adding to my knowledge... Have you had any water lately? These burns tell me you've been in the sun for a long time" the hybrid states before looking to Ki'Vek then his bag for another water ration while his hands are occupied

"My allotted amount," the patient replies. "Or what that amount was before we got the extra water supplies from your ship. It's not always enough. Dehydration is common among my people. The humans..." He snaps his mouth shut and tenses as if he's afraid he's said too much already. Meanwhile, Ki'Vek extrapolates the meaning of ch'Vyran's non-verbal message and prepares a hydropack for the Kuvassian.

Nolan nods and directs Ki'Vek around. "Take this. Water is in no scarce supply, especially for those who need it. No reason to be dehydrated anymore" the Hybrid states, pulling his hands back and using some of that aforementioned water to wash off his hands, perhaps demonstrating it's abundance. "You should be just fine, and so will she. She'll be very sore and I'd encourage her to not lift anything heavy with that arm for a week. But she does need to move it, keep the muscles awake"

Blinking with surprise, the Kuvassian asks, "For only such a short time? Her arm is no longer... broken?"

Nolan nods. "The bone is fusing together as we speak. It needs time to fully knit back together but it's as good as new practically" the Hybrid smiles. "My word"

The Kuvassian looks with disbelief at ch'Vyran. "How is this possible?" he gasps.

"The work of many brilliant men before me" Nolan chuckles. "Modern medicine and science. Magic practically"

"Our technology it allows for many such things," Ki'Vek says to the Kuvassian. "Have you not yet seen the healing results of our work on the others of your people?" She gestures toward some of the others who have already been treated by the medical teams.

The Kuvassian glances toward those others, but then turns his gaze back to the broken, now healed, arm of his companion. He stares at the spot where the bone had previously protruded through, now healed and showing little to no sign of scarring. "I was told," he says in breathless amazement. "But I didn't really believe..." His eyes lift to ch'Vyran's face and he shouts his enthusiastic thanks... repeatedly.

Nolan just sort of chuckles and nods, stowing away his tools. "No worries at all, no worries" he states, turning to Ki'Vek. "Glad to see the folks are taking well to it"

Ki'Vek nods. "They Kuvassians here they have decided to trust us without reservation," she says. "Or so it was explained to me by one of their leaders. Still, they often seem unconvinced of our abilities until they become witness to it themselves." She glances around at the others in the area, some being treated by medics, some waiting their turn. "Will you be staying a while?" she asks ch'Vyran.

"I suppose I could set up a shop here, have my guys beam me down supplies as needed" Nolan nods. "Anything to help these folks"

"You should be aware that the Terrans on this planet they often send out hunting parties," Ki'Vek says. "Hunting the Kuvassians for sport. They would make little distinction, I suspect, between the Kuvassians and anyone helping the Kuvassians, especially if that help is coming from a non-Terran source."

"I'll bear that in mind, but I can be mighty slippery if need be" Nolan chuckles. "In all seriousness, I'll keep my eye on them and myself"

"I'll be staying with you as well, as long as I can," Ki'Vek adds. "And there's a security team on standby in case any trouble arises. All of the Kuvassians have agreed to be transported up to Phoenix if a hunting party arrives. If necessary, call for the security team and they will provide cover for the evacuation, should one become necessary."

Nolan nods and looks around. "Oh the places you'll go... That recruitment poster sure didn't lie"
