Biography
Faashla Jav Crass
The last of her litter of seven, an unusual feat in and of itself as nearly all Tellarite litters are of six. Being number seven also didn't help her in size, she was very tiny. Faashla was part
of the fourth and last litter of her parents, Voge and Shorv Crass, making her without question the youngest and smallest of her family. Like most families on Tellar Prime, the piglets were destined to be of the worker class,
primarily in the engineering fields. Life was hard on Tellar Prime, and Tellarites are natural engineers, a trait they've had to excel at to keep their civilization going. There was no shame in being a member of the worker
class, as they are the backbone of civilization on Tellar Prime.
That being said, while Faashla had talent as an engineer, she had no passion for it. She would much rather explore, a trait that got her into trouble on
many occasions. One such adventure was in her childhood. She liked to sneak out of her room at night to go exploring, as there were too many chores and responsibilities during the daylight hours to do it then. She had recently
learned of an abandoned deep drilling site for water not far from her home. Most of her nightly trips were short and quick, but she thought if she planned it out right she could make the long journey down, the idea of it
excited her. Faashla got all the gear she thought she would need, a flashlight, rope, even some veggie-bars in case she got hungry, and sneaked out right after saying goodnight to her parents.
The drilling site was
indeed abandoned, only a simple guardrail was placed around the site edge. With her small size Faashla easily crawled through it. The trek down the hole was easy enough, ridges were formed by the drilling operation, acting like
a spiral down into the depths. Faashla made good time, and before too long she arrived at a cavern, remnants of an underground aquifer that had been drained of all the water. In her excitement to look around however, she didn't
notice the tracks at the entrance. Faashla was not alone down here.
As any explorer would, Faashla constantly spoke to herself, her personal recorder taking notes as she documented the things she saw, odd shaped twigs,
colour variations in the layers of soil, animal droppings. Faashla stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the droppings. She slowly touched one to see if it was fresh or not. It was indeed fresh. She wasn't familiar with the
shape of the feces which scared her even more. Thoughts of a Krognik, a demon, rushed through her mind. She let out a high-pitched squeal, then clamped her hand over her mouth. In the silence she heard it, the sound of
something breathing. She slowly turned, shining her light on it, the creature was only a few meters away, its mouth gaped. She panicked, dropped her light, and let out a constant stream of squeals. Faashla ran, and ran as fast
as she could back up the hole, she dare not slow to look behind her, not that she would be able to see anything in the darkness there. Somewhat luckily, the sun had risen, giving her a clear direction of travel ahead.
Unfortunately, it also meant when she got home she would be in serious trouble.
She was indeed in trouble, both for sneaking out at night, and for going to the drilling site. It didn't help her case when she argued to
her parents that she saw a Krognik, and barely escaped with her life. Not sure what to do with her, Faashla's parents grounded her for two months. Not to be dissuaded, Faashla used the time stuck in her room to figure out what
that creature could have been. She eventually discovered she may not have been in much danger at all, and her claims of a demon were highly exaggerated. She determined it was actually a type of mole, and her flashing her light
in its face likely blinded it, she hoped not permanently. Faashla wanted to be better prepared for next time, so she spent all her free time studying up on any other creatures she may encounter. Her studies led to other topics
of interest, and while she still yearned to explore, for the time being she would explore by reading.
When Faashla turned eight, a young adult for a Tellarite, she made her case to her parents to allow her to apply to
Starfleet. She was not as talented at arguing her case as her mother, but she eventually managed to convince them. She was eager to start this new chapter in her life, and she did well on the entrance exam, but struggled a lot
with the physical requirements. Faashla was still a tiny being compared to most, and spending all her spare time in her room did not lend itself well to her physical fitness. After much arguing with Academy Admittance, Faashla
was granted provisional acceptance into Starfleet Academy, provided by the end of first year she had shown improvement in her physical abilities. Not to be dissuaded yet again, Faashla put everything she had into meeting the
requirements, just getting stronger wasn't enough, she needed to improve her dexterity and agility as well. She figured the best way to do that was in the martial arts, and the department that focused on the martial arts the
most was Starfleet Security.
Faashla was laughed at by her peers in the security courses, and even the instructors thought she was too small and would not last long in her training. But her stubborness wouldn't let her
quit, and she perservered. She was never top of her class, but she wasn't the bottom either. She learned ways to use her small size to her advantage, and this gave her renewed drive to succeed. By the end of first year she
improved more than anyone had expected and was permitted to continue at the Academy. The security bug had stuck though, and Faashla continued with it in her subsequent years at the Academy.
Faashla had to work hard in
her studies, especially when she didn't want to limit herself to just one discipline. Her major was Zoology and Xenology, with a minor in security, but she had a thirst for more. Genetics also intrigued her, as did
microbiology, physics, and nanotechnology. The latter garnered Faashla her best grade overall as it tied in well with her natural aptitude for engineering. Her final project in nanotechnology class was a proposal for a unique
use for nanites to which she was also able to contruct and program to prove her thesis. Overall Faashla was not the top student in any one subject, she spread herself too thinly. But her broader knowledge may serve her
well.
Now an adult of 12 and freshly graduated, Faashla awaited her first posting assignment. Eager to explore, well, everything.
