Biography
Born to Elizabeth and Mark Cross as the eldest of four daughters, Emmelline Cross was raised in Brighton England.
As is the way with many who were born on Earth, Emmelline had a fairly tranquil childhood, or as tranquil as it could get with three younger sisters.
though being the eldest out of four, Emmelline always leaned towards the helping profession, even at a very young age.
She was raised by her parents, to always think of others first.
That one would get much further in life, by putting others before oneself.
Which came easily to them being in the medical profession.
Her easy disposition and natural intelligence made it easy for her to succeed in school.
though math was always something she would have to work on.
Emmelline found as she continued her education, that she grasped topics such as psychology and sociology quite easily.
Both her parents worked at the local hospital as doctors, and so Emmelline learnt quite a lot about medicine from an early age.
Perhaps it is because Emmelline is the eldest, but her parents set high expectations for her.
Not to say her childhood was oppressive, or that the expectations set for her were unattainable, her parents simply wished for their daughter to achieve good things in life.
The wish to go to Starfleet Academy was not as much of a choice, but more a predetermined factor in Emmelline's life.
She was told starting at a very young age, that starfleet is what she must aspire for, and that her marks, even whilst in elementary school, must be superb in order to live up to the high standards starfleet sets.
Given Emmelline's easy disposition, she didn't rebel against her parents' wishes.
She found that it was congruent with her own life goals of becoming a doctor, and she found the idea of travelling and exploring the galaxy quite appealing.
So at the ripe age of eighteen, as it was expected Emmelline went off to starfleet academy.
Her upbeat and sanguine nature made it easy for Emmelline to make friends whilst at the academy.
though as is often the way, she also found that she clashed with some of the students, who had a more competetive nature than she.
She found her classes to be generally appealing, though she struggled at engineering, and learning all about warp mechanics.
How she managed to get past the basics is something she will wonder to this day.
As she took various electives and courses, Emmelline learnt that counseling was also something that she was keenly interested in.
Though she was very reluctant to give up her medical background and being properly certified.
Especially given that was the expectation she not only had for herself to become a fully fledged doctor at some point, but one that her parents also hoped for.
As a result, she went through her medical rotation, and ended up staying at the academy another couple years to also do a rotation for counselling.
She found that both medical and counseling, could fit hand in hand.
That her knowledge of psychology could help her treat her patients in future, and to provide the comfort and empathy they may need.
Especially for those who may need more long term treatment.
