Biography
Emily Maynard was born in the rainy city of Vancouver, Canada, on April 1st, 2429. Her parents, Jarrod and Helen, lived in an apartment above her parent's repair shop on Earth. Jarrod, her father, exhibited a remarkable talent for fixing everything from engines to replicators. He had a habit of working for odd trades, and occasionally, her mother would rant over whatever strange payment he had accepted. Emilys mother crafted a warm home, and although she worked as a full-time elementary school teacher, she still made time for crafts and baking, especially baking. She instilled in Emily a love of food and an appreciation for different cultures. There was always an attitude of try it first before you judge, which became a solid life motto.
Although Emily's parents were Earth-based, most of the family on both sides of the family tree were invested in Starfleet. It was a rooted tradition crafting a legacy of officers with aspirations. However, when Starfleet shifted towards a more militarized structure, the family split between traditionalists and pragmatists, transforming any mention of Starfleet into a touchy subject at the family table.
During her school years, Emily wasnt that invested in her grades but instead was focused on her extracurricular sports. She was suspended twice for fighting and was given the ultimatum to keep her grades at a specific level; otherwise, her curricular activities would be cut. She stayed and completed her time. A shared passion for travel became a unifying force within Emily's family, kindled by her mother's adventurous palate. Culinary escapades across Earth were a regular occurrence. Emily had no issue packing up and heading off on a whim, with as little planning as possible. She learned to think on her feet and embrace what happened.
When Emily decided to embark on a journey to Starfleet Academy, her family wasn't initially thrilled. As she was naturally athletic and not as studios as her cousins, Emily enrolled with a major in Security and a minor in diplomacy. Despite her military-leaning focus, Emily was fascinated by the new doors pushing ships toward exploration. Emily wanted to be a part of the new direction Starfleet was heading. Her parents came around and gave their blessing after many discussions. Her mother threw out the one caveat to that blessing - Emily was to bring back intriguing foods discovered during her interstellar adventures. Unsure how shed get away with storing such things, Emily agreed and said shed figure it out.
Emily was raised to be independent and comfortable with adventure. She has a robust personality and a quirky, dark sense of humour. Though not easily offended, her jokes occasionally missed the mark, requiring her to become adept at offering apologies and learning from her mistakes. Shes loyal to a fault, has a robust work ethic and is mind-numbingly stubborn. As much as she tries to be non-judgemental, she has no patience for people who throw around their intelligence and will enjoy berating them into their place. Thriving in close circles, she enjoys excelling in her professional endeavours and encountering challenging new situations that require adaptability and resilience.
