[Anewan's Commbadge] Sending request for communication to Lieutenant Commander Worthington.

[Anewan's Commbadge] Worthington says, "Worthington here."

Anewan says, "Back to the planet James. Today we seek out the Kuvassians."

[Anewan's Commbadge] Sending request for communication to Lieutenant Commander LePage.

[Anewan's Commbadge] LePage says, "LePage"

Anewan says, "We are on the planet Commander. We could use your assistance."

[Anewan's Commbadge] LePage says, "That doesn't sound fun. Anything I need to bring down or expect?"

Anewan says, "Be in local garb. Bring your tricorder concealed. Your choice if you want to be armed or not."

[Anewan's Commbadge] Incoming communication request from Worthington.

[Anewan's Commbadge] LePage says, "Right then, same as last time. Transporter set for me?"

Anewan says, "Get with James."

[Anewan's Commbadge] Opening communications channel from Worthington.

Anewan says, "Yes Commander?"

[Anewan's Commbadge] LePage says, "Right then"

[Anewan's Commbadge] Lieutenant Commander LePage double taps his commbadge.

[Anewan's Commbadge] Worthington says, "Are we meeting at the human settlement, or is our goal to reach the kuvassian one? I thought you were still aboard ship and we were beaming down together when you called. Who else should come?"

Anewan says, "Commander LePage is coming with us. He is looking for you. Let's meet in front of the saloon."

[Anewan's Commbadge] Worthington says, "aye. Will see you soon. worthington out."

[Anewan's Commbadge] Worthington double taps his commbadge.

(on planet surface)

Anewan happens to be coming from an alley to avoid people looking at him funny but he looks over the other two officers as he approaches. "We are going to find the Kuvas and see what they have to say and then, find the Sheriff and get him onboard with what we can do. Any suggestions?"

LePage raises an eyebrow but just shakes his head. "Guess we're goin for it then. Nope, no questions"

Worthington nods. "Not from here," he says. "We have a rather long walk though, and my map is from the crash site. I can lead us there though," he says. "We're pretty much in the opposite direction from where we need to be."

Anewan looks at the two then says, "Then by all means James. Lead the way," he pauses and says, "Also, if we talk to each other, first names only. No ranks."

Anewan adds, "Call me Jim."

LePage just mmhmms to the group.

Worthington smiles. "That makes 2 of us then jim," he says. "Let's roll then."

Worthington spots the camp entrance. "A little further east than I initially thought, but there it is," he says.

"Sure enough" LePage agrees

Anewan looks at it and the state of it, "We are to be as unintimidating as possible alright? We are trying to make friends here," he pauses. "But you both have guns right?"

"Can you tell if I do or not?" LePage asks in reply

Worthington nods. "Concealed as best as a big ass pistol can be jim, yes," he says. "Meaning, it might still be spotted, but hopefully not. It's not in easy reach at any rate."

Anewan smiles at LePage, "You sure it's loaded?" then he nods to James. "Let's go."

(In the Kuvas Camp)

As the three of you appear out of the desert, the alarm bell sounds and the children go running off while the adults grab whatever they can to use as a weapon, sticks, rocks, that sort of thing. They also do their best to stay partially hidden behind a tent, or other structure.

Anewan raises his hands to show that he isn't armed and says, "We are just here to talk," he doesn't even say it loud. "We don't believe in the stories the other humans tell. We are here to learn the truth."

LePage stays off to Anewan's flank, keeping quiet and alert.

Worthington also puts his hands high above his head, showing that they are empty.

The Kuvassians don't believe you, and why should they. They have only known persecution by humans. "We have not broken any laws, we will disperse at once, there is no need to hunt us down."

Anewan slowly lowers his hands and actually sits indian style, "We are not from the town. We are from the north and I know. I know, you've had bad experiences, but we are actually searching for some truth. We have been disillusioned with the way things have been done."

Looking down at Anewan with a somewhat curious expression, LePage opts to kneel down instead onto one knee.

Worthington does likewise, sitting himself down on the ground. "We have nothing to do with those humans," he says. "I doubt any of them would sit down and talk to you. They'd probably come in here brandishing weapons and attacking you. I have seen them. This isn't our way."

Horiz steps out of the shadows, "You won't trick us, Kuvas are less than humans, we know this. You blame us for ancient times, it will never stop."

Anewan considers for a moment then says, "Ancient Times. Sure, we all know your people did something a long time ago that the humans didn't like. But the stories are all over the place," he says with a hand flourish. "We came to you to find the truth."

"Y'all ain't below no-one, at least no-one standin' here" LePage adds.

Worthington nods. "Or sitting here," he says. "We don't give a rats ass about any of that shit. Hell, we ain't even from these parts. I was always told growing up, Jim, there are 2 sides to every story. We know the human side of the story. We don't know yours."

Horiz looks around at the other Kuvas hiding amongst the tents, "Our story? We are slave to your kind." He says something in another language, which the universal translator translates for you, an alien curse word, roughly "bullshit".

Anewan pauses for a while then looks back at James then back at Gordon then turns back, "How do your kind believe that happened?"

LePage settles a little bit and listens quietly

Worthington does likewise.

It may not be obvious, and intentionally so, but while Horiz is talking to you, most of the camp, those tents you can't see, have been packed up and the Kuvas there, slinking away into the desert. Horiz and a couple other Kuvas staying behind, maybe as a distraction, or willing to sacrifice themselves for the larger group. Horiz replies, "The tales are true, my ancestors enslaved yours. But that was centuries ago, and Kuvas still pay for it today. Hiding, living in the desert, barely surviving."

Anewan stands slowly still with his hands very visible, "Why are you leaving," he says as he looks around. "What if I told you that we too are tired of the old ways and are trying to even things out. It isn't fair. Do you know where your your home planet is?" he motions to Worthington and LePage and says, "We are part of a ...... congregation in the north that thinks if we can work together, everyone can go home. But we will need your help."

"There's potential to make things a lot better, but it won't happen if y'all keep running" LePage adds to Anewan's speech

Worthington nods. "That there is," he says. "This desert is no place to raise a family."

"Why would we believe you, take your word for it?" Horiz says, "You just want us as labor in the north. Some new mine or something that isn't safe for you. We know how humans think."

Another voice from the darkness says, "Home? This is home, this is the only home we have ever known. There is no way to leave this place, your ancestors saw to that, when they destroyed what remained of the ship."

Worthington whispers 'At what point do we reveal ourselves to someone?' to you.

LePage remains quiet, looking for the voice from the dark

Anewan looks back at LePage as they say the ship was destroyed then back to Horiz, "Tell us what we need to do to prove it to you? How, what do the stories say about how the ship was destroyed?" then he turns to whisper to Worthington.

You whisper 'I think we can do it soon.' to Worthington.

The voice from the darkness asks, "Reveal the truth about yourselves now. We will not fall for this friendly deception. Humans cannot be trusted to do anything that is not in their best interest."

Worthington is inclined to do exactly that, but he doesn't, instead, deferring to Anewan's lead.

Horiz can be seen glancing towards the voice, shaking his head, not wanting the fact that they can hear your whispers, be known.

Anewan says, "We are humans not from this planet. We have found you all and want to return everyone to their home worlds. We know where the humans are from, but we do not have a way to discover where you are from," he looks around. "Where ever it is, it has to be better than this," he motions to the camp.

Worthington and LePage to produce some tech. "Let us show you," he says to the other two. "Explain what they do."

Worthington nods. "May I go get changed then commander?" he asks.

LePage pulls out his commbadge as commanded.

Worthington unconceals Worthington's Commbadge.

Anewan nods to Worthington, "Sure."

The away team all reveal the tech they are carrying.

Worthington nods. "I will be right back," he says to the assembled group. "To show you what we really look like in our proper dress.

Worthington taps his commbadge and says, "beam up phoenix"

A shimmering swirl of color engulfs Worthington.

Anewan makes a point to acknowledged Worth disappearing in front of the group of Kuvassians, "We have grown since you have been here."

None of the Kuvas have seen technology before. Horiz takes a step back, then hides when Worthington disappears. The voice in the darkness, the only remaining Kuvas, "If you have such technology, to disappear like this. You will kill us all now?"

A swirl of shimmering light appears then dissolves, leaving Worthington in its place

"No, ain't gonna kill you" LePage shakes his head. "We wanna stop the killing because it's all senseless"

Anewan nods to LePage, "On Earth," he notes, "The place where all the humans are from, we stop this nonsense a very long time ago. We are here to help you. We are here to free everyone," he nods. "We do indeed have weapons but using them is not our desire." he points to worthington in his uniform, "We are an organization called the Federation. We look to only explore and assist

Worthington nods. "I am lieutenant commander James Worthington, he says, pointing to the rank insignia, "Of the Federation starship Phoenix. We decry slavery and find it unconscionable and intolerable." He pauses. "Normally, our prime directive would prevent us from involving ourselves in the affairs of an alien culture, including not making contact until such civilization has reached warp capability. However, this society formed as a result of direct intervention 7 centuries ago. Our intervention at this point would be merely to rectify the wrongs done on both sides, and to see that anyone who wishes it has the choice to stay here or return to their home world. We have the power to force, but that is not our way. It is ultimately up to the people here to decide if they want to accept our offer and reintegrate with their cultures or to remain on this planet.

A Kuvassian appears out of the darkness, the source of the voice, "This Federation, is made up of humans only I imagine. This is my home world., I was born here, as was my great great great, add a few centuries worth of greats, grandmother. What you offer sounds unimaginable, but could also be just another way to live under human tyranny."

Anewan smiles just a little, "The Federation is a combination of many many species. My boss for instance is a species called Andorian and every planet is sovereign. I don't even know the number of species in the Federation," he pauses and says, "James?" then he turns back. "I am Commander Anewan, it is my job to make contact with you and find out if you want what we are offering." another pause. "We are not offering you admission into the Federation, we are offering to get you off of this planet under such violent oppression and a life that is pleasant where you came from. If you know where that is. If you wish to join and or learn more about the Federation, that can be discussed later."

"Lotsa other types of folk in the Federation too.. More than you could reasonably count" LePage says. "We got lots of different voices, cultures, people trying to make it with the help of one another"

"It sounds too good to be true." The Kuvassian says, "I don't know that I believe you, but that disappearing trick was something." She looks up at the sky, "You have a ship, up there, you travel the stars like my ancestors did? Are there Kuvassians on your ship?"

Worthington smiles. "We have, let's see. Our captain is Andorian, first officer is Vulcan, operations officer is a selay, so most of her body is serpentine, and chairs really don't work well for her. We have cetacean officers that live full time in an on-board aquatic environment designed for their species. I don't know precisely how many member worlds our Federation has, but there are around twelve thousand people on this planet, and we have at least a quarter of that in member worlds if not more. We should introduce ourselves more fully too. Commander Anewan here," he says, pointing him out, "He is our diplomatic officer. The other one with us, lieutenant commander LePage, he's our chief engineer. I'm chief of security and tactical." He pauses. "We chose to send down human teams or those who could pass for human in order to blend in as we assessed the situation on the planet. Now that we have made contact with you, we can afford to send down non-human officers, as we are no longer hiding our existence, origins, or technological capabilities from you."

Anewan nods to LePage and to Worththington, "What else can we offer to convince you?" he then says, "And we would need you help to find your...." he pauses and says, "Home." then he says, "And no, we do not have an Kuvassians on our vessel," but he points up. "We do have a ship up in the stars. Yes," he takes another pause. "If there is any information that you can give us it will help and any stories you have. Is there anything leftover from that ship?" he now points towards the wreckage.

LePage just stands by for now, letting the others explain

Worthington looks to the kuvasian that voiced the question about kuvas crew. "Unfortunately, our contact with your species is severely limited, as there was only a single encounter around 180 of our years ago. We have no records of your home world., and that one encounter is the only reason our sensors classified your species at all upon our arrival," he says. "If we could locate your home world., we could return you to your people, and either make contact or leave you alone as you wish."

"There are some ancient writings, but nothing about where we are from." The Kuvassian says, "That information was lost long ago. I know of none of my kind who possess it." She considers, "Could you find it from the stars in the sky? There is a mural that was kept, it is faded over time, but it is of a night sky, believed to be from our ancestral home."

"A little digital restoration, extrapolation... I don't imagine that oughta be too hard" LePage nods.

Worthington nods. "We are chiefly an exploration vessel, and the most advanced in the Federation. We have astrogation and astrometric sensor capability, as well as star maps and databases. Extrapolating for 700 years of stellar drift, I'm sure we could do so with relative ease once our science people get on it," he replies.

Anewan nods, "Let us see it and we will see what we can do," he nods towards LePage. "However, ultimately. We are here to help and hopefully get -everyone- on this planet to a place they want to be," he smiles. "This is no way to live. We will try to get you all...." air quotes "Home."

The Kuvassian asks, "Will you take all the humans with you, and all the Kuvas?"

"Probably separated, but I think that's the plan more or less" LePage says

Worthington nods. "You will likely be going to different places, once we find your home. We will take those who are willing to leave, but we will not force the issue. Not unless there are so few remaining that they would die without assistance. This place seems pretty inhospitable. Even though the humans have done wrong to you here, they didn't deserve to be brought here from their homes, and no one deserved to be stranded here. It may take some doing, but those humans that wish to leave will be returned to Earth, the human home world. They will not trouble you again, and can start learning of what our people have done over the past 7 centuries to eradicate slavery and improve our society. They deserve a chance. It's up to them whether or not they take it."

Worthington adds, "Our ship would be rather cramped as well with 12000 additional people, so it is likely that Starfleet will send a convoy of ships out here to insure that those who wish to leave can be transported safely, without over burdening a ship's life support capabilities."

Anewan nods and has nothing to say as his other officers answer the question, "If you could get the other kuvassians together and find out what you all want, that would be helpful. We will handle the humans."

LePage mmhmms beside the others.

The Kuvassian gets a suspicious look again, but eventually nods, slowly. "I will spread the word. But many will not believe it. Some may not want to relinquish the mural, lest it be lost to human hands as well." She nods again, "But I will try."

Worthington considers. "In the short term, we could send down some basic supplies, food and water. You can disperse it as you see fit. We can also give those who wish a tour of our ship, and we would of course include your people in the locating of your home world. The mural likely won't have to be relinquished at all as well, though you would know it better than us, so it may be prudent to have someone advise our scientists. What we can do is take a detailed scan of it, then upload that data into our ship's computer systems. The astrometric labs and stellar cartography could then reference it against our star maps and account for the stellar drift," he continues. "Our medical science is also significantly advanced, so we can send down medical teams to treat the sick or injured as well."

Anewan nods with understanding then to Lepage, "Let's get a picture," then he turns to Worth, "Uniforms are OK here. Period clothing in town, let's make sure none of the humans on this planet know that we made it to this camp. I also want to see if we can get a glass or something with DNA from Fudd. I want to be able to list off his ancestry on earth next time I see him," he turns back to kuvassian, "We can offer a tour of the ship. James? We have an issue that would..aliens...we don't make it public..." he lets it trail off. Then he nods to Lepage, "Yeah, let's send down Nolan if they need anything," and finally he turns back to the Kuvassian, "We are here to help."

The Kuvassian says, "I will need some time to convince any of the others. Our camp is moving on now, but we will keep watch here when you want to make contact again."

LePage nods. "Maybe I ought to bury a transporter beacon here, make it easier to jump back this way?"

Anewan shakes his head, "Let's not leave anything behind for now."

"Understood" LePage says

Worthington nods to the kuvassian, to anewan, and to LePage. "Commander anewan here for all intents and purposes is in command of away missions that are diplomatic in nature. We can make contact again and work out details. We will try to bring some non-human officers back with us next time," he says. "Farewell. Until we meet again."

LePage tips his hat to the Kuvassians. "We'll be round"

Anewan say to James after the Kuvassian speaks, "Beam us up James," he turns to the Kuvassian, "We must leave now," he smiles. "We have to sleep."

The Kuvassian disappears in the darkness, slinking away like at times the ability has saved her life, which is probably has.

Worthington nods and gets to it.

Lieutenant Commander Worthington taps his commbadge and says, "phoenix, three to beam up."

(on the ship)

LePage stretches and yawns. "That was interesting"

Worthington nods. "It went pretty close to how I figured. I was right that they'd initially be hostile, but what do you expect, when all they've ever seen of humans is people keeping their people as slaves," he says.

Anewan nods, " The humans are next. Better than expected. I expect the humans to be the tougher sell, we have offered the Kuvas hope."

"Right then... anything else?" LePage asks

Worthington nods. "My thoughts as well," he says. "They likely will be in denial at first, then think that we're here to enslave them. Given what we know of them, that is my bet on their initial reaction to us when they learn the truth," he says.

Anewan shake his head, "Nothing else from me. Anything from you two? Otherwise, good work. Dismissed."

"Nothing from me... Just time to sleep"

Worthington nods. "After I write my report," he says. "How about food and water. Is that reasonable commander?"

LePage goes Out.

Anewan raises an eyebrow, "now?"

Worthington shakes his head. "Not while our chief and folks are sleeping sir, but soon enough. Seeing how they live, they almost certainly could use it, and I doubt they've seen non-kuvas actually put in the effort to help them. It may help to ease tensions among holdouts."

Anewan ahs, "Yes. Let's get with Commander Ki'Vek to see what we can send. But if they need it, we will send it. This has to be discreet, also. Bringing aliens onto a ship hostile to aliens James. Let's stay on top of that."

Worthington nods. "I will see to it that any kuvassian visitors are escorted, personally. Typical security protocols will apply. Also, if we make it a public, diplomatic affair, and have our standard fare for such a thing, a few senior officers present, it would be far too public a situation, and if a conspirator were to act, they would be exposing themselves. If prudent, quartering aboard may not be advisable until the situation with the conspiracy is resolved, but we can maximize their overall visibility while here, and make them an uninviting target for a group that likes to hide in the shadows and not be seen."

Anewan nods, "I'll talk to the Captain, but eventually, if we carry this plan out. They will be on the ship and need security either way."

Worthington nods. "If we end up taking them to their home world.," he says. "Assuming another vessel doesn't do so. But yes, this is true. They will be most vulnerable in quarters. I don't think they would be too high value of a target. If killing all aliens was the goal, you think alien crew members would be getting killed in large numbers right now. We know how many there are, 750. We will catalogue how many that come aboard. And, we will make their safety our top priority."

Anewan nods, "OK James. We will be going back down soon I think barring you headed on your separate assignment. When do you think you will leave?"

Worthington considers. "In the not too distant future. I can postpone to handle some things on the planet. The goal is to execute this mission as rapidly as possible. We have all we'll need, and the crew will be minimal sir. I think it will be me, commander Ki'Vek, and chief Sanderson who Gordon trusts highly. Us, Hadfield, and the portable core. We won't be screwing around. I'll also be running a database search when we get back, to check all Starfleet records on crewman Jenkins, as ours could have more easily been altered. Once our mission is completed, we will return without delay. While gone, commander T'Shaav has indicated that she will likely handle security matters. It should put the conspirators more at ease, as unless they have studied us well, they wouldn't take into account her decades of law enforcement experience, so may think they can move more freely with the chief of security gone. I'd advise being extra vigilant. It may be a chance to catch them in a mistake."

Worthington shakes his head. "No sir commander," he says.

You say, "OK. Dismissed james. See you soon."
